    Carne yummy!

If you are a fan of Central and South America cuisine, this hole in the wall is a regional requirement. Delicious authentic Mexican cafe and bakery...yes, bakery. Try the goods from the pastry and breads counter. There are unique swirled breads and pineapple enfused pastries. The breafast and lunch dishes are really remarkable in terms of simplicity and flavors. Do not be fooled by how basic and small El Pan Café is, because it's worth looking past some decor awkwardness to get a true taste of latino fare. a) absolutely try the shredded meat entree (think barbacoa but more complex) b) best refried beans I've yet had c) ask for the freshly ground jalapeño sauce (comes in a condiment bottle) d) service was friendly and attentive and sweet to our youngest guests e) bone on chicken dishes were excellent We frequent Sin Fronteras (outstanding Cuban and Central American) and consider this a tremendous Mexican counterpart, despite more modest digs. And how cool is it to arrive somewhere with a gift of fresh Mexican pastries? The five stars denote (in order) flavor, service, uniqueness, and value for the dollar. Decor is irrelevant to me when the first four are nailed, and El Pan Café delivers.

Very attentive. Good coffee. I love Salvadorian and Mexican breakfast. One of my favorite things. Hard to find a place that makes it well. El Rinconcito which i have reviewed is pretty good, i should say the best. But i must say this place breakfast compares to the one at el Rinconcito. Breakfast was very tasty, service was great and the price was even better. My new found spot for breakfast when in Annapolis.

If you are looking for some authentic mexican food, then look no further. My husband and I were in search for a place that served authentic mexican food for breakfast. This place was the answer. Their beans are packed full of flavor and smooth.I highly recommend anything on the menu. One truly can not go wrong in choices. I was impressed by how fast our food came out. They give you homemade fresh tortillas. If you watch carefully you can see them making them in the back. This place also serves pastries.

Anyway...we ordered drinks. Mine was good, but my husband said his margarita had no flavor. The waitress asked us about appetizers and if we wanted our guacamole regular or spicy. Of course I chose spicy. My husband got the fajita burrito and I got the trio fajitas. When his burrito arrived I almost laughed out loud. It was half the size of every burrito I've ever seen! Mine dinner had 3 shrimp, a little bit of steak, and a bit more chicken. What it lacked in flavor and meat, it made up for in an over abundance of uncooked onions! Not what I was expecting. It was so disappointing. Speaking of disappointment, the bill.... For over $110 dollars we got two drinks, an appetizer, and two dinners. I'm fine with a $100 meal just not this meal. The guac was $16.50 with an added $1.50 for "spicy"! The 1/2 sized burrito and 3 shrimp were also super overpriced. Overall, we saw the potential in this place but it was disappointing. The waitress was wonderful and kept the water full. Sadly, we won't be back since our local places are so much better.

It was still good because it almost tasted like a tortilla filled with pink pasta sauce but I knew it wasn't the real deal. The bean and cheese one was good. For 2 pupusas it was a little under $5 and came with the pickled cabbage and tomato sauce. Two was filling but I maybe could have gone for 3. The staff was very kind. They do have a variety of items on their menu. Do not be confused by the outside like I was. This place is located in a convenience store, so when you're approaching the address, it's not very obvious that this place is located inside due to the lack of signage. This place has limited hours and I believe they open early for breakfast and close at 4:00 p.m. I originally wanted to call in my order, but didn't see a decent menu online and/or prices, so I made my way there. I got there maybe about 20 minutes before they closed as I saw the chairs up on top of the tables in their seating area. I immediately just ordered the carne asada tacos, the pork pupusas and the cheese pupusa. I took it to go, brought it inside my car and because I didn't eat lunch and it was almost dinner time, I literally picked up the cheese pupusa and ate it in my car. It was piping hot and delicious. I didn't even put the little salad / hot sauce on top as I was really hungry. Overall it was really good. Of course, I moved on to the taco and thought it was kinda small, but thought to myself I should have ordered one more. I think it was comparable to the price that I paid, but for someone that was hungry I knew that maybe four wouldn't not be enough but thankfully the pupusas filled me up. I didn't finish my food completely as I drove home because I wanted to really sit down and try the food. My overall feedback on the tacos is to probably ask them to make my tacos medium rare if at all possible. Secondly, I would probably order at least five and maybe four pupusas. I think that would satisfy my craving and I would be full. I love supporting small businesses so if you are in the area, please stop by and try out this place.

We started with chips and salsa, and they were excellent. The salsa wasn't overly spicy, just full of great flavor, and the chips were fresh and crisp--definitely a strong start to the meal. My wife ordered the chicken chimichanga. It was quite different from what we usually get at the Mexican spots we frequent--it was one large chimichanga served with a small salad, whereas we're used to getting two smaller ones with rice and beans, which we usually share. Still, it was tasty and satisfying in its own unique way. I ordered the Chicharrón en Salsa Verde--crispy pork and onions in a green tomato sauce, topped with cilantro and served with rice and warm flour tortillas. It had great flavor and the pork had a nice texture--crisp but not dry. Our friends ordered a variety of dishes, including: Chile en Nogada - a stuffed poblano pepper with seasoned ground beef, covered in a chilled almond and walnut nogada sauce, topped with pomegranate seeds and served with rice. It was rich, colorful, and very flavorful. A beautiful dish with red and yellow sauces and a white cream swirl--unfortunately I can't recall the name, but it was as good as it looked. Six tacos with assorted meats--each one was fantastic. The flavors were bold and fresh. To drink, most of us had margaritas, and you could tell they use fresh ingredients--these were excellent and not overly sweet like some places serve them. Service was top-notch from start to finish--friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The only disappointing part of the evening came at the end, when we learned that the restaurant will be closing in about a month. The building is being torn down, possibly for high-rise condos. The staff doesn't know if or where they'll reopen. It's a real shame, especially in an area that's already struggling with traffic and congestion. More homes, fewer gems like this. I just wish we had discovered Sin Fronteras Café sooner. Hopefully they find a new home nearby, and we'll definitely try to come back before they close for good.

Just a couple more notes about pricing though, because I think it's worthwhile to mention: there is no lunch menu. Most Mexican joints have a lunch menu, with smaller sizes and lower prices. not here. The portions are very generous so be prepared to get a dinner menu and to-go box. And I ordered a draft Mexican beer and got a 24 ounce glass for nine dollars. I think this is another attempt to raise your check. Most places will give you the option of a 16 or 24 ounce.
