Food was great but service is a little disappointing. I came in the restaurant right before 4pm, no people on the tables. Waited for a little bit to get the attention of the server. Food came out almost 30mins and i had to ask for my drink. Two more people came in, had drinks right away in there table. Food came out less than 15mins. For two..! I was by myself.. I've been complaining for a while that this town lacks variety in the food. Which probably stems out of having eaten at most of the restaurants in the area enough times to be almost entirely blasé. Well I do have to say, I have a new favorite place! This little gem in an unassuming little place has cured my blues. I stumbled across it by accident yesterday evening and just had to stop in. The first thing I noticed was the cleanliness, it was out of this world. On top of that I was greeted immediately from behind the ordering counter with a big hello. After a brief conversation with the lady behind the counter, I perused the menu and found that they offered a variety of meals ranging from Authentic to Fusion, to straight up continental. With barbacoa tacos to pollo frito, they even sport a cheesesteak, hamburger and club sandwich. The place is beautifully bi-lingual and you couldn't ask for a friendlier staff. The barbacoa was out of this world, perfectly tender. And the gorditas I just had for lunch which just as tasty. The only thing that baffles me is how a place exists in a town like this. But lord knows I am happy it does! I highly recommend it to all the yelpers out there! It's great for both dining in and carrying out! read more

If you are a fan of Central and South America cuisine, this hole in the wall is a regional requirement. Delicious authentic Mexican cafe and bakery...yes, bakery. Try the goods from the pastry and breads counter. There are unique swirled breads and pineapple enfused pastries. The breafast and lunch dishes are really remarkable in terms of simplicity and flavors. Do not be fooled by how basic and small El Pan Café is, because it's worth looking past some decor awkwardness to get a true taste of latino fare. a) absolutely try the shredded meat entree (think barbacoa but more complex) b) best refried beans I've yet had c) ask for the freshly ground jalapeño sauce (comes in a condiment bottle) d) service was friendly and attentive and sweet to our youngest guests e) bone on chicken dishes were excellent We frequent Sin Fronteras (outstanding Cuban and Central American) and consider this a tremendous Mexican counterpart, despite more modest digs. And how cool is it to arrive somewhere with a gift of fresh Mexican pastries? The five stars denote (in order) flavor, service, uniqueness, and value for the dollar. Mmmmm. Love the breakfast platter this place does. It's always super busy and you might feel like you've stepped out of the country when you come here, but that's part of the charm. They must do a pretty big take out business too, because I kept seeing Styrofoam boxes coming out of the kitchen, but that must be part of what slows the service down. I was pretty disappointed when I ordered a glass of milk and was told they couldn't serve it because "it isn't on the menu." But all these sins are forgiven when a big platter of tasty food show up in front of you. read more

My husband and I read the rave Yelp reviews for this place and we decided to try it. Why not? It's only a 5 minute walk from our house!!! My husband ordered the Pupusas (bean and cheese and meat), and I ordered a fantastic breakfast platter which included plantains and cream, avocado, beans, scrambled egg with peppers and onions, hot corn tortillas, and a wedge of soft cheese. Everything we ordered was delicious, fresh off the grill, hot, and authentic. The food was also very affordable. My breakfast platter was only $8.50. This is a very cute little place! They also had a large glass case filled with various pastries in the front which looked delicious, although I didn't try any. Love El Salvadorian food, and will most certainly return! read more

Don't pass this up. El Pan has just the right items on it's menu at an affordable price. We tried the Gordita's, Taco's, fried plantains, and South American style steak with rice and beans. Everything was prepared fresh. The food tasted authentic and well seasoned. Very soft and tasty corn tortillas. The rice and the beans were excellent. Just the right consistency and flavor. The baked goods that we tried were a bit on the dry side, but that could just be a matter of what we picked. The staff were extremely helpful and patient..service with a smile :) read more

I came here with my husband during our annapolis visit. On our quest for breakfast we ended up here due to the great yelp reviews. We came into a small restaurant that looked super authentic. We got drinks and a menu, were I ordered two gorditas and one rellienas (pork). Husband got the breakfast plate. It took a while to get the food since the place was busy, tons of people came to buy the baked goods. After a period I got my food and it was delicious. The gorditas was good, loved the hot sauce that came with it. I loved the rellienas especially with the cabbage and carrot slaw. Delicious. My husband also loved his food. Very attentive. Good coffee. I love Salvadorian and Mexican breakfast. One of my favorite things. Hard to find a place that makes it well. El Rinconcito which i have reviewed is pretty good, i should say the best. But i must say this place breakfast compares to the one at el Rinconcito. Their beans are packed full of flavor and smooth.I highly recommend anything on the menu. One truly can not go wrong in choices. I was impressed by how fast our food came out. The food is great, the prices not so much! They are incredibly expensive. Mainly cuz theyre the only good spanish food in town. I've found a few hairs in my food. Thats never good and when they say hot sauce, they mean hot sauce! read more

This place has great food - like the other reviews say, it has delicious and authentic Salvadorean and Mexican food. Bilingual staff. I want to comment on their catering services. I recently had El Pan Cafe cater an event we hosted and had a great experience. I worked with Ester, who set us up with Pupusas (with curtido and salsa), taquitos, and quesadillas. The food was fantastic and for a great price. I would recommend this place for catering, dining in or take out. Incidently, it's right down the "street" from Martitha's, which I would recomend passing up. Last time I was there, I strongly suspect that I got charged a "gringa" fee for my quesadilla - it was delicous but for what I paid should have been inlaid with gold. read more

I've had the pleasure to come here twice already. I knew this place would be good as soon as I walked in and smelled the fresh baked sweetness. First time I came in to buy their mexican sweet bread, and second time to dine in. Of course I had to try their pupusas revueltas, and they were probably the best in Annapolis. (there aren't many pupuserias in Annapolis or salvadoran restaurants for that matter). I also went for the beef gorditas and I was in heaven! The crunchy outside of the tortilla and soft inside was amazing. And the spicy sauces are better than any chipotle sauce. read more
