There are 2 El Patio's in Simi, North and South both on Tapo Street. Have been going to both for several years (approximately 35+ years). Never really had any issues until today. Birthday dinner for my spouse at the "south" restaurant. I can't say exactly that the service was bad but after expressing concerns about a few things that were not good I got such an attitude of disrespect and not caring like I have never seen before. After expressing some dissatisfaction about what was going on you would normally see an attempt to fix the situation but like I said there was genuinely no concern to remedy the situation. We went to the one near Township elementary school to see a friend's band play. The food was mediocre and so was the margarita I had with it that was served in a beer glass for a Mexican restaurant. My husband and I are new Ventura County residents and were super excited to try this place. We stopped by today for drinks and appetizers. The place looked pretty well staffed and friendly atmosphere. We were seated right away, ordered our drinks and appetizers. Drinks are ok. Then noticed service was a bit slow... we literally had to flag down a waiter to request another drink. The house salsa was by far the nastiest salsa we've had in a Mexican restaurant. Super watered down, no flavor and noooo spice at all. We then asked for green salsa but I think we were given enchilada sauce?? It was a bit thick and again, flavorless. The potatoe skins were pretty good. The nachos were ok. The beans were good! I'm glad they are home made beans and not out of a can. Wow this was really good. It's a little confusing because there are two separate restaurants on Tapo both called El Patio. Both of them are good but this one here (north of Alamo) is superb. I haven't been here in about 7 years and remembered enjoying their food. My boyfriend and I went Friday night about 8:30 pm. They told us to sit wherever we wanted but the majority of vacant tables twere all dirty and not wiped down. We ordered margaritas, mine Cadillac and was good, his peach and was tasteless. Then came the food quickly which was nice but it not only didn't look like traditional Mexican dishes they tasted terrible. My boyfriend is Hispanic and he said his dish looked Chinese with American gravy. Hardly any rice. Mine was so dry I took one bite and no more. Service was fine, the food and drink however, was absolutely horrible this weekend. Not sure what has happened with El Patio in Simi. My chicken taco came on a watery plate, making one side of the fried side of the taco soggy. I had to dump the excess water unto a plate. The chile relleno was awful, it was rather small and the outer egg batter was so dry/old, tasted like cardboard. Seems overcooked or leftover from day before. We came with a party of 36 people for Sunday brunch. The whole staff was completely accommodating. We took advantage of the brunch which was full of variety from menudo, shrimp, and enchiladas. I love this place!!! So glad they have patio dining. They have the seating spaced apart so whoever said they don't is wrong, that type of person should simply stay HOME! Went tonight with my family, to have good eats. Food was great, service not so much. We got seated right away which was nice for our party of 10. After about 10 minutes we hadn't got menus until my sister had to go ask the host for some which was very odd. I as well overheard our server say "why did you seat them at my table?", to the host. Server doesn't know how to multitask bringing out our orders and adding one drink to our bill, again very odd. He as well just seemed annoyed from the get go. This El Patio is the true legit one, the other one on the other side of simi doesn't even compare. The service here is way better, the employees are always friendly and they check up on you often throughout your meal. Onto the food: big portions at a good price. Everything I have had so far from here has been really good with lots of flavor. The only thing though that I don't like is the salsa you get with the chips, it's a little on the spicy side. I wish they had a milder option so I could enjoy it more, then just eating chips. Overall great place. Will be back !! read more

Really great place the staff is so nice and inviting and very efficient in speed of service which sometimes worries me that the food may lack in quality which was not the case at all the food was amazing and the quality is always consistent every time I go , the speed of service is impeccable and the servers and even kitchen staffed thanked us for coming in on our way out which was awesome, the soup is so good me and my bf get it every time and they even informed us on their brunch special which was awesome and you bet we are def coming back for brunch. It was about 110 degrees today but thankfully the inside was quite cool and our iced teas were never empty so that kept us nice and cool. I placed our usual pick up order with El Patio CANTINA on Tapo and Los Angeles for fish tacos, tostada and arroz con pollo. This location (El Patio RESTAURANT on Township and Tapo) answered and failed to tell me that my regular location was closed (and yes, I checked, I called the correct number/location) when they took my order. So I went to pick up my order on Tapo/LA only to find the place closed (Google still says it is open, by the way). Called back, learned that the other location had taken my order instead. Okay, whatever... it's just down the street, right? I pick it up. The food was TERRIBLE. The tostada was nasty looking with wilty shredded lettuce, brown guacamole (hardly even recognizable as food) and a layer of refried beans on the bottom (usually doesn't have this at the other location). My mom couldn't even stomach it. The fish tacos, which usually have a generous filet on every taco, only had like 1/4 of the fish. Where the other location usually gives a big side of rice, this location was stingy. The tortilla chips were old, stale and tasted like they were store-bought. The only thing that was the same quality was the arroz con pollo and the salsa. While I understand it's COVID and local businesses might be suffering (maybe that's why the other location was closed?), this location was obviously trying to cut corners on quality. Definitely not worth the $50 (plus tip) we paid. Next time, tell people the location is closed (especially if they are driving there!) so they can decide to save their money and go somewhere else. read more

I really enjoyed my dinner at El Patio. The patio felt like someone's backyard (in a good way)!and the enchilada salad was delicious. I haven't had a green salad with warm cheese enchiladas on top for about 30 years. OMG, added a little ranch dressing and I was in heaven. My only complaint is that they had 805 on their menu (husband's favorite) and they were out! Not bad for a little hole in the wall restaurant. I will be back for that salad. Yum read more

I'm so glad that I finally stopped in this place! First, and unsurprisingly, I was impressed by the beautiful patio. You don't feel like your surrounded by a mini mall at all. Chips and salsa arrived quickly and was delicious! (Although a little spicy for my wife). I got a guacamole appetizer and I am really glad I did. It was amazing and it came with some yummy fried flour tortilla chips and sour cream. My wife got a chicken tostada which she loved and I got chicken enchiladas suizas which were excellent!
