I'm so glad that I finally stopped in this place! First, and unsurprisingly, I was impressed by the beautiful patio. You don't feel like your surrounded by a mini mall at all. Chips and salsa arrived quickly and was delicious! (Although a little spicy for my wife). I got a guacamole appetizer and I am really glad I did. It was amazing and it came with some yummy fried flour tortilla chips and sour cream. My wife got a chicken tostada which she loved and I got chicken enchiladas suizas which were excellent! Although I've been coming here for nearly 30 years, and about 20 times in the last year, I have not put in a review. I regularly order the Carnitas Tacos Mexicanos plate. It is always so darn good that I cannot even try anything else. Each time I go in saying I will try the fajitas or Chile verde, but No! Always end up saying that I want the Carnitas Tacos. I only like them crispy, as they normally come non-crispy. Their albondigas soup is excellently as well. Somebody in my party is bound to order their nearly perfect red or green enchiladas, so I will be sure to get my taste of that treasure, as well. Diego is one of the nicest sweetest waiters I have ever known! He may not be the fastest, but he is still - The Best!! So I had to do healthy fresh ingredients type Mexican and well that's hard to come by especially if you want the flavor. Well this place never disappoints. They are always on mark with flavor, fresh ingredients and service. We come here every Friday night with the whole family including kids, grandkids to start our weekend off after a long work week. I come here all the time with my hubby; he's from Simi so it's their go-to when dining with friends and family. We actually had our rehearsal dinner there because it's a local favorite and they have a pretty decent space in the restaurant for a large group. The food is good but I have definitely had better Mexican food. But for the area, it's a great place to eat and hang out. They also have a nice patio area and really yummy margaritas. The service is always great too! Some good favs based on the polls I've taken from our family/friends: bean dip (YES!), chimicanga, chicken tostada salad, enchilada rancheras. I personally like the fajitas or the beef tacos. They also have a buffet on Sundays that's pretty cheap and you get a variety of food (see, I've been here a ton). Stopped in for a drink and loved this place! Sat in the patio at the bar, watched the baseball game and had a delicious Michelada made by the bartender. She was super sweet and really helpful! Great drink and we look forward to coming to this place a little more often when we move in the area. The food looked great, we just had chips and salsa (good salsa), and then headed out. We are long time local residents and customers of El Patio that had moved away for several years. We are back and have now continued our long relationship with this little neighborhood gem! The food hasn't changed much over the years, and the only atmosphere change that we have noticed is that the massive tree is gone from the middle of the patio. However, still as friendly and welcoming with festive music, darn good salsa and an array of frosty margaritas. On this visit we ordered the Enchiladas Saltillo and the Arroz con Camarones, excellent! Enchiladas filled with melt in your mouth Chile Verde and rice topped the very large plump expertly cooked shrimp in a flavorful sauce with a mix of veggies. Dang, my mouth is watering, gotta go back for an early dinner today! Busy on weekends, especially after local youth sports activities when the patio is hopping! Wonderful for families, we brought our daughters growing up (now 32 and 39) and now that we come with our grandchild. read more

This is my second time coming to El Patio restaurant and I promise it won't be my last. El Patio is a great representation of what a true Mexican restaurant should be. You can enjoy a margarita at the bar or you can enjoy a family night out on the patio. The salsa and chips are to die for. I had the chicken fajitas and my wife got the salad. The chicken fajitas were cooked to perfection, and the corn tortillas were a perfect consistency. We are regulars at another Mexican restaurant in town- decided to explore others lately and have been pretty disappointed in both the food & service. This place has a cool outdoor patio. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves on a hot summer night. There was no seating on the patio, so we sat inside. There are 2 small sections inside. The front area closest to the door is unbearably hot. The 2nd part was still warm, but tolerable. As far as the drinks- I enjoyed my Rasberry margarita. It wasn't strong, but was just right. My son ordered a "well done" cheese enchilada. Meaning - make sure the cheese is melted. When the waiter placed it on the table, I could tell immediately by the raised section in the middle, that the cheese wasn't melted. I told my son to cut into it - and it was a solid chunk of cheese. It took about 5 minutes to get the attention of the waiter. The waiter picked it up. No apology. Just took the plate & walked away. Then I get to my dish. Chile relleno combo. Beans & rice were good. I cut into my Chile and again, a solid piece of cheese. Even worse than my sons. It literally wasn't melted at all. I wait another few minutes - and don't see the waiter again for another 5 minutes or so (when he brings back the enchilada) and I tell him my cheese is not melted either. Again, he takes my plate, no apology, and walks off. About 10 minutes later, he brings back my food. The cheese is somewhat melted, but not how it should be. At this point, I take a few bites and get a box to take it home. Overall, crappy experience with service & food. Chips weren't that good. I enjoyed the salsa. Ive always been curious about this place - as it's usually pretty crowded. I'm glad I satisfied my curiosity, and now know I'm not missing out on anything. read more

I went last night to have dinner out on their patio. There was a woman sitting at a table, on the patio right behind me smoking a cigarette. I went into the restaurant and told the hostess that there was someone smoking on the patio. She told me that if there isn't a lot of people, they don't really mind. I told her that it was a packed patio and that it was a violation for someone to smoke at a restaurant. She said she would tell someone. Our food came shortly after and the lady lit back up again with her friend. I went back into the restaurant and asked for a manager. Once the manager came, he said that he's seen hen before and they yell if they ask them to stop smoking. This couple had been before and caused a scene when they were asked to stop so he didn't want to say anything. He asked if I wanted to move my table!!!! I told him no, that I would like to enjoy my dinner without smelling cigarettes. I told him that I was going to approach he customers if he didn't. He went up to the table and told them that he would give them free drinks if they moved because we complained! I couldn't believe it!!!! The couple ended up leaving so we were able to finally eat our food. The manager came over to apologize but said that the owner is ok if people smoke cigarettes at his restaurant. I told him that the health department would give them a huge fine if they were caught and he said he knew, but the owner doesn't care. I'm very disappointed with this restaurant. Ordered take out. Lady came and then charged me for a couple margaritas which I never ordered which made my total double than it should. I had already paid and saw on the receipt. She kept talking and made excuse after excuse "my hand slipped", it's the machine", didn't seem like she was being careful or paying attention before you charge me maybe look at the screen and make sure it's correct which I can't see myself only the receipt that came out after I paid. So after her talking my ear off I said I'm sorry I just want my refund and I'll pay for what I got and leave. She then says "It was a mistake and I already said sorry" as If I was trying to argue with her when I simply wanted to just get my refund and pay for what I wanted and leave. El Patio is the best Mexican Food in Simi Valley, and one of the best in Ventura County. Been going here for years. Love the atmosphere, the food, and the service provided by the staff. Family owned business that cares about their customers. They've also been doing really cool drink and food specials since the pandemic started. You can tell they care not just about providing food to their community, but a consistent environment where anyone can have a good time! I personally get the Outrageous Chimichanga and the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp washed down with a Pacifico! Love it! read more

The staff was so kind and warm and welcoming, the food was HOT and so good (I recommend the camarones diablos & house marg). LOVE the staff, very welcoming and friendly. The long tenured employees are 5 star people. Sometimes they are trying so hard that you wonder if they need a manager; I recall on a recent visit we had three different people offer to take our drink order and two different people offer to take our food order. But, sure does beat the opposite scenario that you find at most other restaurants The atmosphere is excellent for this outdoor dining era we are in. Even when the Simi winds are raging, you are largely sheltered from it if you sit closer to the building, or simply sit inside. The food is pretty normal Mexican food. I grew up in Simi Valley it's not Beverly Hills its a nice middle class community and El Patio is a good Mexican Restaurant. I've been eating at El Patio for over 20 years and have never been disappointed, the foods good, the atmosphere is casual I expect to see people drinking on the patio. if you read between the lines on most of the one star reviews you can tell those people would be happier over paying for bland food at Acapulco's or one of the many other large nationwide chains of non traditional Mexican food. If you want a some taco's and a margarita and want to hang out with your friends this is a nice place to start or finish off the weekend. read more

A few months ago we went with a friend and we waited over a hour to be waited on then when the food came it was cold. This place has the worst service ever. Takes forever for drinks, a meal order, and the food. The food itself is not Mexican food. Salsa is ketchup basically. I got a simple taco with rice and beans. Rice was dry, and like out of a box of rice-o-roni, Beans are beans. Taco meat was flavorless aside from a strange taste of like dish soap, it had like a lavender or some sort of flower taste to it. I thought this was my imagination, but we went had come two years ago, and I literally thought why does this taste like soap? It's so weird. Giving two stars for the atmosphere, nice patio. Been in Simi for 3 years and never knew this gem existed. A couple weeks ago I was driving and saw a crowded patio and it caught my eye, and thank goodness it did. Decided to have dinner there this evening with my family and it was a total pleasure. Our server Jaymi was so kind, friendly, a total sweetheart. The manager Christian was very courteous and such a great thing to see a young man handle such a restaurant. The food was delicious and very authentic Mexican tasting. My lil ones who are picky eaters loved the carne asada street tacos with their huge horchata. I enjoyed my mahi mahi tacos (such a big portion of fish) and the Albondigas soup was yummy. My hubby devoured his enchiladas suizas, also yummy (I had to taste them because they looked so good). Overall, this is a hidden treasure in Simi. We are so glad we enjoyed a nice dinner on the outside patio. We did not have margaritas this time but everything they served look worth tasting next time. From Simi Valley foodie- still shitty service Fuck this place: My husband talked me into giving El Patio another chance tonight. We arrived at 4, hardly anyone on the patio. Ordered our drinks h2o for both and a soda for him. Drinks came, food ordered. Soup arrives and waiter spills some in my husbands lap, apolgizes, leaves. I was concered but he said it did not burn because it was lukewarm (that was okay as he does not like really hot soup + no blistered skin from the spill). Meals arrived combo for him with 2 cheese enchiladas & 1 chili relleno. Burrito for me. Both our meals were barely warm and the sauce on top of mine was watery. I wanted to send it back for a reheat in the microwave but our waiter never returned. I watched as tables filled, people had multiple servers check on them, we were apparently invisible. No drink refills, nothing. Bus boy took away our plates, still no waiter. 27 minutes later I had to go inside to the cashier to ask for our check, I was told the waiter would bring it, I told her no way were we waiting another minute. I told her about the lukewarm soup spilled on my husbands lap, no drink refills, barely warm meals. She actually laughed out loud. Then called a waiter from the kitchen, not ours. Another waiter brought forth, not ours. (Meanwhile we are getting close to time to pick up our daughter). I told the cashier my estimate of what we owed and I was going to leave cash, she said "what about the tip?" I assured her there would be no tip and a bad yelp review. Finally our waiter arrived and gave our total. Just $0.46 less than the cash I had ready. Got back to our table just in time to hear the people at the table next to ours send their cold food back to be reheated. I have been eating at El Patio on township for 40 + years.
