After passing up many options, we landed on this spot. We both ordered (via Doordash) the chicken and cheese enchiladas with the green sauce. I also ordered a small horchata and my husband got a steak gordita. I must say, i was pleasantly surprised how tasty and fresh the food was. For some reason i thought we were supposed to get a side salad with our meals, but it did not come. The chicken was white meat and the sauce was very tasty. It came with refried pinto beans and rice. Whenever I meet someone from Mexico in the area and ask their recommendation for authentic tacos, I am directed here and for the years I've been patronizing, I've never been disappointed! I originally would come to satisfy my very rare cravings for tacos de asada, then tried their pupusas and fell even more in love! Another go-to has been their sopa de pollo when I'm feeling sick. I've tried other items here and there and have enjoyed each one. Although I usually stay away from chicken tacos because the meat tends to be dry and flavorless, I decided to give it a try here because I can no longer eat red meat and I was nice and satisfied! The meat was flavorful and the four tacos were the perfect serving. I usually order pick up (delivery on rare occasions) which is fast and I am always greeted with a smile. Depending on how I'm greeted, I either speak Spanish or Spanglish, but either way, they are always lovely. We ordered online- pick up to-go- Prices were reasonable- ordering online was easy- they offer a variety of meats, but I wish they were available on all dish options not just the tacos- we ordered: combo platter (for the kids)- taco, sope, gordita leguna sopes chorreada torta chorizo burrito pupusas-chicharron & cheese the food was ok- I'm used to expecting 'greasy' when ordering authentic Mexican food- but a few of the dishes were OVERLY greasy- i.e the chorizo burrito was definitely underbalanced with chorizo & other ingredients- a few bites of the top & the rest of the burrito was a greasy messy ball of chorizo- our friend put a plate underneath the to-go wrap & it just had a pile of oily meat grease- the sopes were pretty good- well balanced meat & fresh ingredient toppings- but again the tortilla portion was very greasy-oily our kids enjoyed the platter- but there were a lot of onions- overpowered the rest of the item- I know because I had to spend a large amount of time picking them off- the pupusas were the best part- well filled, well made, not greasy- they were easily hte best part- but again with so many other pupuserias nearby at cheaper prices- I wouldn't find myself craving these again I found them via an Instagram share- but with so many delicious taquerias in the area, I don't think their flavors hold up- & I wish they had more variety meat options available for the plates (like sopes) not just tacos-and too many dishes were underbalanced read more

I got an Uber Eats order from here and it was really delicious and fresh. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I could tell that they care about their food and proud of it by how nicely it was presented. I'm sorry that I didn't take pictures but my blood sugar was dropping and I was getting hangry. I got the birria tacos and a carnitas tostada that I ate right away and a pork papusa to eat later. First timer . I always visit Laurel but never tried El Patron . It's located in a location. Where we don't see it much . It's kinda hidden ! But such an amazing place for Mexican food ... For the price , the quantity of food is great .. most of the dishes that I ordered was 12-14$ and the quantity was a lot . Loved the taste too. There are very few veggie options. Got veg quesadillas and it was ok, chicken dish was really good . They also give salad , rice and bean with chicken meal. Very good service . Lots of seats inside to dine in .. parking is good . Yes, it's worth 4-5 stars! Located in an old Pizza Hut, El Patrón offers excellent Carne Asada, Fajitas mixtas... But the chips and salsa stood out because the season to the chips very slightly with something that's quite tasty, and the salsa is much more authentic that I'm used to. It's much more of a purée than the chunky tomato salsa that I've kind of gotten used to. But the real treat for me is the high-quality flavor of the refried beans.- they are excellent. Back to the Carne Asada. Everybody seasons Fajitas and Carne Asada seasoning in a similar way, yet this is slightly different. I can't put my finger on what the difference is, but it tastes maybe a little darker, maybe a little smoky? I'm just not sure. But it's tastier, and the the meat that they're using is not gristly at all. It's still the traditional skirt steak, but it's flavorful. My only regret is I could have eaten more; the portions are just OK. By the way- the Tres Leches is excellent, too! read more

I have been here twice so far and this is what I learned. The food is good but place your order ahead of time. They are short staffed. First time I came the staff was nice and friendly. I waited like 20mins for the food. Food was good but took a while. Which is why I would go back. 2nd time I came to dine in and they took a loooong time just to bring coffee. This is a hidden gem located in the old Pizza Hut. My friend and I shared birria tacos, sopa de birria and the tacos dorados. The sopas pair really well with the crispy dorados. The broth itself was very rich in flavor and you can tell all of the meat juicys were marinating in it for hours. The birria tacos packed plenty of flavor and the tacos dipped in the consume were perfect. The staff here were really friendly. Highly recommend this spot if you want some quality Mexican food. I had a late lunch with a friend. The restaurant used to be a Pizza Hut. You could tell from the inside. Inside was very industrial, no decoration or Mexican decor. You walk in, you're greeted and you get to sit wherever you like. At this restaurant, you won't get any chips or salsa to snack on while you're waiting. The waiter was nice, more like managing the whole place by himself. An extra waiter or waitress might have helped. The menu is pretty basic with typical Mexican dishes. I chose enchiladas with salsa verde. It came with rice beans and salad. I got my meal in a very short time. The food was ok. Not very seasoned as I hoped, and my beans were cold!!! Rather than to make a fuss, I grin and bear it... because dude seemed like he was over worked. The prices were cheap. I might give it try again, in a few more months. read more

I've passed this place so many times I can't count! Finally made a stop yesterday for "Taco Tuesday" to go. It's definitely a hole in the wall but those are the best (in my opinion). They had a special - 4 tacos for $10 and you can mix and match! I did 2 chicken and 2 steak and they were tasty! Totally worth the price and a visit. I was craving Mexican food and my partner and I decided to give this place a try. This place definitely has an authentic feel both in the food and the restaurant itself. I started off with the elote loco and it was definitely not my favorite. The elote I'm used to has mayo, cheese, butter, lime, and cayenne pepper. Their elote had ketchup, mayo, and mustard... it didn't taste bad, but it was just a very different experience. I wasn't a huge of the ketchup and mustard on my corn though. I had a bite of my partner's carne asada and it was really good! It wasn't dry like a lot of other Mexican places and it wasn't super thin either. I had the pastor sope and it was super good. I noticed a fresh coat of paint on the former Pizza Hut and stopped in to check it out. So new I had to add the business to Yelp! They haven't done much to the interior, just a few pictures and sombreros. Mariachi playing at a moderate volume. Order at the counter on front of the open kitchen and they'll bring the food to the table when it's ready. I tried the alambre, much like fajitas without the sizzling platter and cheese on top. Al Pastor was quite savory, onions and peppers had a soft crunch. Served with two spicy sauces and very traditional soft white corn tortillas. Definitely a hole in the wall taco joint. On Google Maps, it looks the it's located by the entrance to the racetracks, but in reality, it's further down the road by the Planet Fitness. Doesn't come off very neat or clean, but it's certainly authentic. The tacos are the only things I've had here, and they've been awesome. Juicy, flavorful, and inexpensive at just about $3/taco. The chips are freshly made to order and we're crispy, hot and delicious. Can t think of a similar taco place in the area that does it better. 4 stars strong for the food, albeit the service, interior and overall vibe could use a modern touch. read more

A no frills restaurant with some great food! It's a old Pizza Hut with little to no decorations, but if you can get past it not being pretty you can enjoy some real flavorful Mexican food. It's a cash only establishment and it obviously just opened a few days ago. But don't let that dissuade you from coming to this restaurant. I got there shortly after my workout to try the new establishment. There was one table full and as I ordered and waited about 4-5 tables filled up. I wish I could have taken a picture of this food. My phone literally died before the food came out, but I will be back. I go to the planet fitness next door about twice a week. I ordered tacos and tamales and they were delicious! This was our first time at this restaurant. The menu is written in Spanish with some English translation = awesome. Gracious staff, many choices in an unassuming location (the old Pizza Hut). I ordered a torta - a huge sandwich with, what looked like, hand cut beef, sautéed potatoes, lettuce, tomatoes, mayonnaise, jalapeños and some tasty things I ate too fast to take notice. It was messy and delicious, served with sauces, garnished with radishes, cucumber and lime wedges. I could only manage half. My husband ordered the chicken mole and they were able to cater to his keto needs with avocado instead of rice and beans. He paired this with grilled scallions. The mole had depth of flavor and just enough heat to be interesting but not overwhelm the palate. We will definitely go back and try more things. read more

This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Laurel, Maryland. It used to be a Pizza Hut when I was a kid, and I have been to many post little league sports celebrations in this restaurant before it was turned into a fantastic Mexican restaurant in recent years. One of the things I love the most about this restaurant is that the interior still looks like a Pizza Hut restaurant. Sure, the color scheme may have changed, but underneath it all you can still feel the family restaurant vibe that its predecessor used to ooze on a daily basis. They still have booth or table seating, and now it also has a little bakery goods area adjacent to the register counter in case you want to take some home with you. The staff is always very friendly. The menu consists of your usual favorite Mexican fare cooked in a delicious home style. We ordered the Chicken Enchiladas, and the Carne Asada. Both dishes were fantastic, and came with a side of amazingly creamy refried beans and rice. We also ordered Mexican cokes in glass bottles, a treat that never disappoints me. I do have two items that I feel the restaurant needs to address. There were a lot of dirty tables and booths throughout the restaurant when were told to pick our own seats. If you are going to allow your customers to pick their own tables, you need to be sure that all the tables are clean. What is the point of allowing me to pick my own table if 9 out of 10 of them are dirty? That really doesn't leave me with much of a choice. The second thing I need to address is the cleanliness of the bathrooms. Of course a bathroom in a restaurant gets viciously used throughout the day, but the scum I saw on the wall near the sink and trash can in the bathroom had been building up for a long time. A restaurant's bathrooms need to be as clean as the kitchen, or people will wonder how clean there meal is going to be. Besides that, the experience was very pleasant as usual. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who misses the feel of a good old fashioned family restaurant, but desires one with a Mexican twist. read more

This place is very run down. I don't think they did anything to it after the Pizza Hut closed. The bathroom roomswere also retched, and smelled like four week old fish. This spot is probably the best taco spot I've been to in both Philly and Maryland area. Their guacamole was amazing, perfect amount of flavor and the chips were warm and fresh.
