This used to be our go to always for Mexican food . Not Anymore . Things have changed and not for the better . we kept retrying just to see if it was an off day no NO. last visit Saturday was the worst . so bad I sent back my order . got replacement for something different and it was just as awful. Presentation, quality, taste , servers. included . I got a taco salad with beef . in shell was a layer of beef that tasted like saw dust could taste like . Then a very deep layer of runny refried beans topped off with about 3 pc of shredded lettuce and a tiny sliver of tomato. I can't even politely describe what it looked like . Went on a Thursday night and it was pretty busy, which would normally mean a good thing.... But it wasn't. This is the worst Mexican Restaurant I have ever been to. The chips were stale and the salsa was cold, as if they poured it out of a Tostitos jar salsa. They tried to upsell the fajitas because it's the most expensive thing on the menu, and were offended when I told them no thank you. The food came out and looked like it would be good, boy was I wrong. The chicken burrito and beef chimichangas had no flavor at all and were extremely dry. The waiter would come over and ask if everything was alright, but before we could answer they would walk away. We couldn't eat our food it was that nasty. We got our check, paid and left. Solid Mexican lunch! Came here with some girlfriends on Wednesday and had a great time. We all ordered different entrées off the lunch menu and they were affordable and also delicious and great portion sizes. We liked the variety between the different items on the menu which allowed everyone to find something they liked . This is another one of our go to places for taco Tuesday. I just wish they had a margarita special on that day as well. love the tacos however, sometimes they're greasier than other times, but they're still good. They just fall apart when they're extra greasy when you eat more of a taco salad than a taco. Still very tasty and enjoyable. Most of the time the waiters are very attentive and refill our drinks and make sure we have everything we want. Chips and salsa are always good. read more

I went to lunch here with a few coworkers last Friday. I really did not enjoy my lunch and did not think the quality is what it should have been. I was told this restaurant was "related" to a couple other Mexican restaurants in the county which I have been to before and loved. I thought this was a step down. I had the taquitos mexicanos and ordered a side of rice. They forgot the rice and I had to remind them. The taquitos came with two rice and two chicken. They were okay at best. I only ate the chicken ones and half of one beef. I got a glass of water which tasted horrible. It was clearly tap water. I attempted to order and pay for a bottle of water at which time I was told this was the only water they had. It seriously tasted bad and I barely drank anything throughout the entire meal since I don't drink soda. I just was not a fan and won't be back. read more

We went tonight after returning a rental car at BWI. Indeed I have not been here in 11 years. I do remember something about my first meal here. It's a story I told my wife at least twice when we ride by on our bikes when doing the airport loop. I went here with friends from work back in 2014. What I marveled about then, was that table of 20 folks ordered some version of 20 different things. When the food came out there was very little ability for any of us to identify what we thought we had ordered. The servers got it right (I guess). What we ate was good and I had no complaints. So tonight same, thing, I saw a lot of similar plates. My wife got a burrito combo and I got tacos carnitas. Our plates did look different becuase the tacos were pre wrapped in foil (likely made in batches and sit?) We both enjoyed our meals and plan to come back at some point if we are in the area. I don't think we would make a special trip (about 30 min trip from door to door), but if we were out on that side of the airport-yes we would be back. The other curious thing is that I don't believe a single thing about the decor changed. There are as expected the classic Mexico colors, and there is a"cowboy" vibe with some of the decorations. Pretty standard stuff. The chairs are big heavy solid wood- certainly could be the same ones from 11 years ago. The servers are all polite, young energetic folks that seem to all contribute to each other getting things done. The prices are very reasonable, even at this point of time in our weird recovery or not economic climate. We were in a bit early, 1700-ish. Early enough to get a harried young couple with a toddler and an ill parented baby that would let out a blood curdling scream every one minute and 44 seconds. That's a bug not a feature... read more

The food and service were amazing. The seafood burrito was so flavorful and humongous. The fajita quesadilla was good but was only half of full circle quesadilla if that makes sense. The shrimp and ground beef tacos were delicious. There's so many things to try on the menu so I'll be going back next week. The Cadillac margarita was really good as well. Unorganized with kitchen and service logistics. And sadly, dirty. When swept, the floor could create its own Mexican fajita platter. The menus are sticky. The seats are caving in and the artwork on the walls are dusty. Not exactly painting a pretty picture for you to order and eat food that you are paying for with your hard-earned money. read more

I first visited Los Portales when I started a job in the area, the HR team took the team of new hires there for lunch. I fondly remembered the atmosphere was that of a fun Mexican restaurant, and the food certainly did not disappoint. Fast-forward 18 years, as I was in the area thinking about where to take my family for dinner, and I recalled the previous experience and wanted to pay them a visit again. I showed up with my family of 5 at peak dinner hour, around 6:30, on a Sunday. We were immediately seated in a comfy corner booth that was perfect for my wife and I to help the kids get their food from plate to mouth relatively successfully. They have a nice children's menu buried in the massive menu of authentic Mexican items. We easily picked out food for everyone, and had a very nice dinner experience. The portions are large, so we had a to-go box of what we couldn't finish. Nobody was upset about having it again the next day! read more

I could not believe the recent bad reviews based on my past experiences few years ago and so I gave it a try. Must be under new ownership because the food was so bad and looks like they getting new sign. The chicken taco was so blend that if not for grease it would have tasted like cardboard. The beef taco was all grease and oil and still tasted like cardboard. The queso cheese was watery and strange. Hope this food doesn't haunt me later!! And my background is Mexican and Philpino. This was not chili verde. Meat was dry and there was no verde about it. Look like roasted pork that had dried out in the oven. No sauce at all. Ate here for lunch with a friend on a Friday afternoon because I had to drop someone off to the airport and it's close by. Despite it being 1:00, they still had a decent crowd. Parking was easy to find, I snagged one of the last available spaces otherwise would have had to park further around the corner of the shopping area (still not a far distance). The friendly, and helpful wait staff are wearing masks and there are hand sanitizer available. As always the food is delicious! Food: I got chicken fajitas and my sister a salad. Where do I start, first instead of pico there was a huge slice of tomato on top of my bland rice, the chicken couldn't have been any more dry, the tortillas do not taste fresh at all and the guac is green paste. The salad - I felt so bad for her - big chunks of tomato on top of iceberg lettuce - do they have a tomato plant out back... and a ton of sour cream on top of it all. They used to have really good salsa and now it's just bland, not to mention the chips were clearly not fresh. Service: It looked like there were 4 men working and of those 3 were folding up silverware at a table. If you need something you have to wait until one of them turns around or the other guy finishes up taking to-go orders behind the bar. Ambiance: Walking in made me want to walk out immediately. Margaritas are on point. My latest visit, I had a Fresh Blueberry Margarita. Strong and good! So many good choices to choose from. I've never had anything that wasn't delicious. Burrito with just about everything I could think of stuffed inside and topped with all the fixings. So delicious! Inside everyone was spaced pretty far apart. The food was very good. I added a touch of hot sauce for a little extra kick, but everything was very tasty without it. I tried the cucumber margarita. We gave this place a try because we're from a Texas border town and are always searching for Mexican food that is close to authentic and this place was not only far from it, but was just bad overall. The food was not seasoned, salsa tasted like tomato sauce, beans were surely from a can, and rice also under seasoned. My boyfriends carne asada tasted like it had absolutely no salt/seasoning and the corn tortilla seemed to be microwaved. I am not a picky eater and will typically clean my plate no matter what if I pay for a meal but this food was bad enough that we both left food behind. The service was fine up until the end, our check had higher prices on half the items opposed to what the menu showed. The waiter asked me to show him so I did show him the menu where my drink should have cost something like $2.50 but instead I got charged $4.50, which is not a big deal just frustrating after such a bad meal so we left our card out while he went to go ask the manager what he could do; he returned and grabbed the card and took off before we could ask what happened and of course we got charged the higher undisclosed price without any explanation. Pretty shady move in my opinion so we definitely won't be back especially when there are much better options in the area. If you're in Glen Burnie make the extra drive to Mi Pueblo, Taqueria los Jarochos food truck, or just eat at home because those options are far better and actually worth your money. read more

So, like just about every place, a lot depends on "luck of the draw" and your personal preferences. The menu seems pretty extensive, so there's definitely something for just about everyone. There were quite a few larger groups here on a Thursday evening, and they all seemed to be pretty well accommodated. Nice choice if you're in the area and/or have some time to kill before or after a flight at BWI.
