Surtido taco
Salina X.

I got a shrimp taco, chicharron taco, pastor taco, and surtido taco. The tacos are a pretty decent size and are nicely filled. I might have went overboard with 4 tacos for myself. My favorites were the pastor and surtido. The shrimp taco was too chipotle tasting. The chicharron taco was nothing special. Don't forget to top off your food with their green sauce. I think they have the best creamy sauce anywhere in town. Also, margaritas are more on the sweeter side.

Overcooked chicken

Chicken was way overcooked, dirty holder on the pan. Too many Mexican restaurants in the Boro to choose from, I'll find another one.

Fresh corn tortillas, big size!

Ok! I don't know what happened but definitely not fresh corn tortillas anymore. We went today and did our tacos. We were very disappointed! Bring back fresh corn tortillas!

Cheese quesadilla

If you are a fan of Mexican cuisine as much as I am, don't just walk, run to this restaurant! I was looking for some local Mexican food and dining when I stumbled upon this lovely restaurant. When I walked into the building, the atmosphere and design were magnificent! They had a lovely bar set up near the kitchen. I was seated very quickly at a clean wiped table and was given wonderful amount of patience from the servers and staff! Food came out in wonderful timing and when you take a bite of the dip, it just takes your tastebuds to heaven! I also ordered some quesadillas which were out of this world! When I was done, my plates were cleared and I prepared to pay! No issues with payments as they do take Apple Pay and card! And the best part is I was heading out to my car and about to leave, the server ran up to my car and retrieved my forgotten box of leftovers. I thanked them and left with satisfaction! Very much recommend this place as a 10/10 restaurant!

Menu

A new addition to Murfreesboro's growing selection of Mexican restaurants, El Patron Taqueria offers a wide selection of both traditional Mexican cuisine and the standards found in Tex Mex restaurants as well. They offer a variety of salsa from mild red, creamy green salsa with medium heat, and spicy red salsa that gives flavor without adding too much heat. Too try out the restaurant I stuck with tacos lengua, buche, and cachete. They were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The waitress was very attentive, and the service was fast. I can't wait to come back to try my favorite dish, chicken mole and a weekend favorite menudo or caldo de res. Well worth the visit.

I popped in one day after running errands around Murfreesboro and when I first saw that it was an old BK converted into Mexican restaurant, I thought to myself this is either going to be distrusting or delicious, and lucky for me it was the latter! El Cubilete serves up authentic Mexican food, and while you can still get the classics you are used to, they focus a lot on the true Mexican classics. Being the gringo I am, I went with my tried and true chicken, rice and cheese sided with some chori-queso. While the order was basic, the food itself was not. The queso, chips, chicken, tortillas and everything was fresh, hot and absolutely delicious. To with the food, they brought out their house red and green sauce. SPICY is an understatement, but I could handle in small dabs, and through that realized while the green was milder, the red had better flavor. But honestly it was lose-lose for me with those sauces. In addition to the food, they have a small drink menu with beers, frozen drinks and a solid selection of agua frescas. Service was stellar. The owner was super kind, welcoming me in, checking on me during my meal and ultimately ringing me out. All the servers were friendly and helpful. Overall, odd layout and set up, along with service being communal (everyone serves everyone together), which is a bit odd...but even with all that, the food and service speak up and stand alone. Great spot with good folks and tasty food! I would certainly swing back through when in Murfreesboro.

Finally... A burrito that comes close to what we used to get back in California! We've been…read moresearching for so long and I had honestly given up multiple times, but like all great explorers, we endured and persevered. Taqueria Lupita is a great spot nestled inside a gas station market. As soon as we walked in, I knew we were in for a treat. The smell of meat on the griddle and the aroma of toasted tortillas met our noses and it made my mouth instantly start salivating. The team behind the counter was working fast and got our order out super quick. I opted for a chicken burrito and it took all of my self control to keep from eating it on the drive home. But like all great explorers of old, we had to take our bounty back to the motherland for all to enjoy. I cut it open and see what the cross section looked like, and it was practically perfect. I forgot to ask for avocado, so that's on me. We got the red and green salsas with it and they were both great. I loved the roasty undertones and heat of the red salsa. The first bite of this burrito took me back to another place, far from Tennessee. It was a glorious first bite. The melty cheese, the rice, beans and the chicken combined to make the most delicious symphony of flavors. I can't say enough good things about this burrito, you have to try it for yourself. I'm eager to try more things on their menu, especially the torta, it looked amazing.

As soon as we saw the (previously Oakland) Raiders logo, we knew it was gonna be good! I got the steak (asada) burrito - it came with rice, beans, meat, sour cream, and lettuce. If I had to give a critique, I'd say it's just missing a little guac. But oh my word, this burrito transported me right back to California! The flavors were spot on, the ratios were perfect. It may have taken us five years, but we finally found a Mexican spot that will definitely be in our rotation. It's located inside a small gas station, which confused us at first. But once we walked in, it was clear where to order. Both guys working seemed extremely kind and helpful, and overall just happy to be serving people incredible food.

If from other, this isn't Taco Bell or anything like the others up or down the street. Real deal. Amazing version of Birria (beef, not goat - and I'm not sure if they have chivo). Served with a side of drippings broth, and dipping is heaven. Caldo de Res is real. Rarely found in full servings, this is a meal by itself and probably enough for 2-3 people. The house made salsas in the refrigerator next to the fountain drinks are perfection. Green is the sluicy Jalapeño crema often accompanying street tacos. And the Red is a roasted chipotle style with the more upfront heat. Parking is plentiful. Service is order, take a number and seat yourself. Large patio when the weather permits.

It appeared that they had a group of people in the center of the restaurant whom everyone was trying to take care of. The taste of the food in all honesty was 1 step above Taco Bell, and I love some Taco Bell, so that isn't a dis at all. My boyfriend and I both had burritos, mine had carnitas and his had the option of ground beef and chicken. He said the chicken was so bland, that the only way he knew it was there is that it fell out of the burrito. Would I go back, yes, because it reminded me of when I lived in Chattanooga.

I arrived and my server Raquel got me set up with a beer and brought me some chips and salsa. The Pozole Verde is HUGE, enough for three people because I was only able to make a small dent in it. The chips were crispy and the salsa surprised me, great flavor! The Pozole is a rich stew loaded a solid green tomatillo/chile broth, shredded chicken, hominy, while you add the sides of radish, lime juice, lettuce, cilantro, and onions. The spice level (I am a wimp) on this stew is close to the top of my range causing some sweating and sniffles. The downside...the furnishing could use some rehab. Upside...good food and service, I'll visit again to try their Birria Ramen.
