A little girl and a woman walked us to our table but you could tell the lady (maybe the mom) was making her practice her public speaking which I adored! I tried the lunch fajitas for dinner since I wanted a smaller portion than the dinner option and it was still a good amount of food. I loved that the tortillas were freshly made! El Pedrigal translates as "The Stony Ground" which is a nod to its location here in Lithopolis, Ohio. The historic, rambling, single-level building has had many previous purposes. The ambiance is typical rustic Mexican decor. You will enter from an enclosed porch and see the front counter and a few small tables, you'll pass other eating areas, the kitchen and finally arrive at a well-appointed bar. Drinks are generous. It's all cheerful, colorful and boisterous. You can have a conversation, but there is background Mariachi music, multiple TVs, and the many noises of a busy place. In fair weather the patio tables are very nice and much quieter. The service is always friendly, attentive and smiling. The owners are usually present, working just as hard as the staff. The fixed menu is large, mostly Tex-Mex. The food is fantastic and as fresh as it gets. Appetizers are made when ordered and not before. The kitchen is fast. The food (and plates) arrive HOT. I live nearby so I often get carry-out and it never disappoints. I treat all my visitors there. Although prices (everywhere) have gone up, the meals are still a great value for their size. Their Shrimp Queso Fundido is a delicious heart attack, just waiting to happen... It's officially an appetizer, but is was big enough to make a full meal. The umami was amazing with gooey queso blanco with spinach, nopales, and grilled shrimp, all served with a big basket of warm tortillas. I also enjoyed the various hot sauces to change up the flavors a bit. My second visit here and review. I like small town ambience and this restaurant fits in nicely with ethnic casual comfort. Good parking on and off the street. A bilingual staff that are cordial, attentive, prompt and efficient. As I mentioned last time the foods are under seasoned for me, but, there are 3 different hot sauces on the table to reinforce the meal as desired. Came for a date night, and this food was so good! The queso dip and the salsa and chips are great! The street tacos were larger than expected and I couldn't finish them, but I go a mahi mahi taco, chicken taco and steak taco and I would definitely get the steak and mahi mahi again. My husband had a bowl and ordered some tortillas on the side and he enjoyed it. We would definitely come here again. We are so glad Mexican food is improving in Ohio! read more

My mom and I ended up at El Pedregal after exploring the Lithopolis Bee Festival. We didn't want to eat at the food trucks. They were busy with the fesitval but had a decent wait time. We only had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. This left us with time to continue exploring the fesitval before it shut down. Once we were seated, we placed our order fairly quickly, and then we waited....and waited...and waited. An hour later we finally got our food. My beans and rice were cold, the rest of the food was luke warm. It was disappointing after waiting so long. The table across from ours got a burrito, it was HUGE. It looked like it could have easily made 3 meals for me. The food was decent, I just wished it was hot. Especially with how long we had to wait for it. This is a great place! We are so lucky to have it nearby because there isn't a great selection of restaurants in the area. Plus, the other mexican restaurant nearby has gone way downhill. I have had many of the dishes off of the menu here. Mainly I like all the tacos best. The shrimp and mahi mahi are the same just changing the protein and they are so good! The lechuga taco is basically chicken fajita on a lettuce wrap and it's very generous on portion. If you got one with a side of rice you could make a meal of it! There is a really yummy jicama taco with coconut crusted chicken inside too! Yesterday I tried their new quesabirria tacos and they were really good! I have had birria tacos that I prefer better at another restaurant (Martha's fusion kitchen) though. But that's just a personal preference. The difference for me was that El Pedregal doesn't dip their shell in the stew and the shell isn't as crispy. I still really liked them though! We also sampled the tres leches cake and that was also delicious! The wait staff here is absolutely wonderful! When we go we ask for Marta! She is so great! She is so kind with our 2yo even though she steals all her pens and paper She is also very attentive and will go out of her way to make sure you get what you need. But everyone there is awesome. I highly recommend El Pedregal! If you go, step outside your box and try something a little different than you might normally get! I feel like this is their strong suit. I used to get the same thing at every Mexican restaurant (enchiladas supreme) but I now try something different everywhere I go and it's so much more fun! read more

El Pedregal is better than expected. It's one of the few restaurants in Lithopolis. This is a pretty boring town. It certainly needed somewhere else to eat. The food beats many of the bigger Mexican restaurants. I had a house margarita. It's about $5 for the regular size. They have a larger size but it's not much bigger than this. It was good. This tasted like it was actually made with ingredients and not just a mix. I had the vegetable burrito. It's about $10 and comes with guacamole and salad. The salad is really just some chopped iceberg and tomatoes. It also comes covered in that cheese glaze. This is something that I always request to be left off. It's pretty good without it. The vegetables in the burrito include mushrooms and squash. Try it if you happen to be in Lithopolis. It's the town's best dining option. Of course it's about the only real restaurant. read more

My husband and I discovered this little gem last summer and it has simply become our favorite authentic Mexican restaurant in Columbus! The entire staff (host, waiter/waitresses, bartenders, etc) are always so upbeat and friendly), the food is fresh/hot and extremely tasty, the decor is also appealing (I love the patio!), and the prices are not bad at all either! The guacamole is really fresh and tasty too! My parents and friends have complimented the freshness and thickness of the salsa that is served free with tortilla chips. My favorite meal is the Texas Fajitas for $16.50. The fajitas are made with chicken, steak, and shrimp and is super filling! I have gotten the meal many times and will continue getting the meal! I have also tried the shrimp quesadilla fajita which I thought was really good too! My husband and dad's fave are the El Perceval Fajitas which are made with steak, chicken, onions, peppers, mushrooms, pineapple, chorizo, and bacon! Sounds yummy, right? The portions are extremely large as well. We also came here for Cinco De Mayo this year and WOW it was a blast! We were served free tequila shots and given free beaded necklaces as we left. My husband's steak for his fajita quesadilla came out just a little salty and a waiter immediately took the dish back to the kitchen and came back with a new plate that was perfect for my husband's liking. Server was annoyed when we pointed this out. Server was also annoyed when we asked for separate checks which we told him we wanted when we first sat down. There was good reviews on Yelp, close by to where I was running errands, two birds one stone. After talking with other patrons, this establishment was originally a house that has gone through several restaurant renditions over the many years, this Mexican venture being the current go-round. I was told the owners are partnered in with several other Mexican restaurants around central Ohio. Plenty of staff all about, they all seemed polite and friendly. I really liked the taste and texture of the complementary salsa. It's homemade. I may have had a bit more than would like to admit. I can neither confirm, nor deny. The Chips were good, nothing special, but thin and crispy. It's a pretty hefty menu, lots of things to pick from. I went with #136, the Carnitas Dinner. A generous potion of super tender pork. Liked the rice, but would pass on the refried beans, in the future - they tasted a little on the burnt side, and the top layer had solidified, somewhat. I'd sub in the black beans. While waiting for a to-go box, I asked the waitress if I could get just a tiny scoop of rice to go in with the dish to mixed in with the protein, on my second meal. She said sure, but brought out a big container of it. Odd. Got the bill, and was charged $2.75 for an extra side of rice. Ouch. Dually noted for next time. Considering this once-was house has been thru the business ringer many times, the locals all seem to agree they want this Mexican joint to last. A solid stop, if you're in the area. read more
