Today though I had just a little bit of time for supper, so I needed something quick, but I wasn't crazy hungry and I didn't wanna go to a burger place or pizza place or any regular sitdown restaurant. This is a bar/restaurant, but definitely leaning more towards restaurant, at least in the daylight. Street parking, a bit hard to find but not too bad after rush-hour. Super friendly staff. I think the bartender and maybe one other person were there, and the bartender came out to the tables to help me. Pretty decent menu, but since it's taco place, I went with tacos. I got the street tacos: a chorizo, a barbacoa, and a carnitas. Perfect, standard, fairly small, good toppings and flavor. I think the barbacoa and chorizo were my favorite. But they were all good. Reasonably priced, up pretty quick, not a crazy big meal, but you could build one with more tacos and maybe some sides. And of course drinks if you want 'em. House Taco is one of those blink-and-you-miss-it places sitting right by the YWCA, waiting to become the next neighborhood favorite. Honestly, with all the new apartment buildings popping up downtown, this place should be the go-to. Hashtag make living downtown safe and hip again. The beau and I realized we've been living downtown for over a year and had barely scratched the surface of the little gems around us. As much as we love a good foodie excursion, I'm not exactly adventurous when it comes to my stomach--Midwest Mexican fusion with Cheez Whiz trauma runs deep. (Yes, Topeka, Kansas--I'm still talking about you!) But I was pleasantly surprised here. The vibe is exactly what you want from a spot like this: if a dive bar and a taqueria had a baby, this would be it. It's got that taco truck feel but in a slightly larger, sit-down format and the prices still keep it real. The bartender also serves as a host but you can order your meal via QR code so it comes fast. Meal: Coming off of my fitness plan, I skipped the drinks but went straight for the OG Tacos - 3 for $15. I grabbed one Cajun Whitefish and two Yam Yams (sweet potato). Let me tell you, that whitefish taco was everything. Perfectly seasoned, tender, and the kind of good oil that drips when you pick it up--that's the sign of a proper taco. The sweet potato Yam Yam had this subtle chipotle or ancho pepper kick with a charred crunch that was so well done, I had to pause and appreciate it. Full disclosure--I couldn't finish the third taco, so I passed it off to the beau, who had no problem closing out the meal. I now know two tacos are the sweet spot for me unless I'm pulling up extra hungry. Honestly, the only thing missing was a cold Corona or a Horchata to complete the experience. Amazing gourmet tacos are available here at a very reasonable price. The menu is reminiscent of delicious and authentic (of course) Mexico City street food that I have had and enjoyed in the past. It is a family owned restaurant. Of particular note, which may be of interest to some, are vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. These items are sometimes an afterthought in many restaurants, but here it was fully considered and included. Other options are of course available for the carnivore crowd. Street and off street parking are available nearby. Be careful where you park on fourth Street at certain times because parking can be restricted during certain hours, potentially resulting in being towed and ticketed. Came here on a Monday around lunchtime and we were the only people it's a small place! The server Marcus was super nice and once we ordered the food came out fast. We started out with the chips and dips trio, but didn't get the to fully experience the queso because it was a burnt batch. We both got street tacos and they were just okay. Upon entry the restaurant was pretty quiet and was not busy. We were greeted as we walked in and sat at a table near the window. It's a cute lowkey place. My friend and i decided to try out the dirty horchata drinks which tasted amazinggggg. I have been looking for a horchata based cocktail in the cbus area and i really recommend this one! As per food, we decided on the trio dip app. My taco choices were the charred chicken taco and the Cajun fish taco. The chip trio dip was disappointing to be quite honest. The chips were extremely stale, even though the dips were great i might opt into a diff app in the future. The fish taco and the chicken taco though were so good. I'm so glad we stopped in! This is a huge step above Condado which is just a few blocks away. Not only is a taco a pretty big portion here, the flavors are great! From the sauces and salsas to the seasoning on my proteins, I got 1 whitefish taco and 1 chicken taco, they nailed it. What's even better than the tacos- those donuts. Oh my god. The picture doesn't do justice- the donuts come out hot, they're fluffy on the inside and the jelly is next level. The prices are low and the service was great, super friendly and attentive! I've been meaning to try House Taco ever since it was in the Statehouse but never got the chance. Boy was this worth the wait. My new favorite. Service was personable and friendly. Food came out fast and margaritas were outstanding. It's not your standard Mexican place and the menu has some interesting options. Everything was amazing, fresh and delicious. They are currently only open till 9 and hopefully when they get more staff that will change. The house made chips are fire. I do wish they had a guacamole option. This is tiny little establishment in downtown Columbus. We walked in and were unsure what to do. It is a seat yourself. We took seats at the end of the bar and then they had us move because that is where servers pick up drink orders. I recommend to take those chairs away if it is seat yourself and supposed to remain open for servers. We got seated further down the bar. It took awhile for someone to come to us. Then we had to ask for menus from another patron that had some near us. We finally got our orders in and then it took awhile for the food to come out. After a bit one of the bar tenders came out and told us they had an almost entirely new staff and apologized for the delays. The staff was friendlier after they explained and made us more understanding of their situation. They had recently posted a video to social media and their business blew up. That is how we ended up there was because of the post. Good for them, but can definitely understand the chaos of having a new staff and then an influx of patrons. The food was good. It was tasty, but like many other places around town the tacos were served lukewarm at best. I prefer the meat on tacos to be hot or warm at least. I am not a fan of cold taco meat. By the time we left the kitchen was smokey and it was flowing out into the restaurant being a small space. Our eyes were burning and we smelled like tacos. Stopped here on a brief weekend trip to Columbus looking for some good tacos. Overall, the experience was pretty lackluster. To his credit, our waiter was incredibly friendly -- downright hilarious and had our entire group laughing often with his attitude and quips -- but the food itself and the ordering experience left a lot to be desired. There were no paper menus except for on request, which is normally no issue, but the ordering process itself was also online. The online ordering site didn't describe what was on most of the items, so it involved toggling back and forth between the ordering tab and the menu off the restaurant website that contained details. Certain items allowed to add or remove ingredients, but others had no such option. Overall, it was just a really clunky ordering experience that added extra confusion, time, and stress that could have been avoided if a waiter had simply taken our orders and been able to address questions. All of the food came out at different times, likely due to the disjointed ordering experience, and some of our party was finished with their meal before others had received their food. Drinks didn't come out until probably 30+ minutes after we ordered, after most of the food had been delivered, and we had to inquire multiple times after same. Beers came out 30+ minutes after ordering, soft drinks maybe 40 minutes, and the very first person to order a margarita of our party -- very first item ordered -- received it probably 50 minutes later, after everybody else's food had been delivered. The food itself was alright. The street tacos were good but the portion size of the protein left something to be desired and felt disproportionate for the size of the tortilla. Our favorite item was the street corn nachos, which was an interesting but very good twist on typical nachos. Would definitely order that again! Overall we likely won't come back if we pass through town again, as this just didn't seem like the most seamless operation. The food was okay, but the way that the service is set up just seems like it's setting up the waiter to fail a bit. Again, he was AMAZING! But it would have been much easier if he could have taken the orders himself, answered questions we might have, and had everything in at once. I'm rooting for this restaurant, as it seems they might still be growing -- definitely has a lot of potential! read more

They are in the center of the Ohio Statehouse, so for pickup you do have to go through security and follow signs for the Capital Cafe. I ordered online. When I arrived they were putting the finishing touches on my order. They said they had been open since December, but the location was really hurting delivery drivers and people find them. The Statehouse currently closes at 5pm so for an order at 4:45 I had no trouble but after that it would have had to be curbside pickup. The food was amazing. The childrens meal was able to be modified for even the pickiest eater's taste with ease. The portion size was impressive for the price the chips and cheese went well with the two soft tacos.
