I decided to get that and it was delicious. Later on, another colleague showed up and ordered chips and guac, he told me that I could help myself to it because he wasn't going to eat all. I had no problem helping him out. The guac was delicious and the chips were light and crispy. I like the restaurant but I wish it wasn't a 15 minute walk to the nearest train station. From the beginning, she wasn't welcoming or enthusiastic whatsoever. We asked for ice lemon water and we were given warm water with lime on the side, received no napkins. My wife and I order other drinks and my drink was forgotten literally.. She never checked on us at our table. When we finished eating, our dirty plates were never collected and just sat there. We shouldn't have to keep trying to get our waiter's attention for basic things throughout a meal. She just wasn't near us. But was serving others. The part that really bothered us happened after we left. We accidentally left the top/cover to our daughter's bottle on the table. We realized it almost immediately and came back literally about four minutes later. My wife walked back inside and explained that she had accidentally left the bottle cover. The waitress simply told her, "Oh, I threw it out." No apology. No "I'm sorry, let me get it for you." No offer to retrieve it. Nothing. My wife actually had to tell her to go get it out of the garbage. Obviously, accidentally leaving the bottle piece behind was our mistake. But we had only been gone for 3 minutes. Something that clearly belongs to a child's bottle could easily have been placed to the side temporarily in case the customer came back--which is exactly what happened. Even if she had already thrown it away, basic courtesy would have been to apologize and immediately offer to retrieve it instead of making my wife ask. Again, the food and drinks were good! Never can complain about that, and we've enjoyed this restaurant plenty of times before. That's why I'm not criticizing the chefs or the restaurant's food. But our waitress today was extremely inattentive, unwelcoming, and rude, and her customer service was honestly unacceptable. After being customers here for years, this was by far our worst experience., usually a few times a year, and we've generally had good experiences. It is not saying much for a city that really lacks in Mexican cuisine. To say I did not give this restaurant a fair shake is like saying I only went to an ice cream shop and only ordered the cone. I went all out there, which is maybe why I received the service I received, or maybe it is because I sat next to what appeared to be my server's children. Whatever the case, I was treated well here. Onto the food. The Sopa Azteca (their tortilla soup) is a nice change from what I had at a previous Mexican restaurant. I would like the portion to be bigger and more meat in it, but I like the Mexican spices and the variety here. It is quite enjoyable. The Queso Fundido should be called a Queso No Divertido. It was awful to eat, with lousy flavor and texture. This is the second time I have struck out with this appetizer. It is safe to say I am done ordering it in this city. Nobody does it right. The Paella is nice, but at its core has the essence of a nice dish. Some parts are full of tremendous flavor, and some parts are dry and bland. The chicken enchiladas I ordered because it would not be fair to come here and pass up something Tex-Mex as an entree. The chicken is inconsistent, well cooked in some spots, dry in others. The salsa verde has a lot of kick here, but the side salad and charro beans nearly ruin the whole thing. At least the Mexican rice is fluffy and has great flavor. Speaking Spanish to the staff helped curry points in the service department. I like family owned businesses. Everybody was busy and on point. So what if the food does not wow, I have given more, for less. Hence why this is a three star review and not a two star review.
