Second time going here. First time was fantastic. Went again two days ago and I would say it was fair. Arrived right at noon as they opened the doors. Wait staff was fine. My problem was with my order. The chimichanga was described with tomatoes, which there were none. And the lettuce was browning quite badly. The low down: Food is good and seems authentic for a reasonable cost. Service was not extraordinary but definitely acceptable. The town of Louisburg is very small so I was surprised to find such a gem in the Foodlion shopping plaza. Arrived around 5:30pm on a Tuesday night planning on doing taco Tuesday special (chicken or beef taco for 1.25 each). The restaurant was fairly busy, but there was more than enough open tables to accommodate our party of 3. Our server promptly took our order and brought us the most delicious tortilla chips I've ever had at a Mexican restaurant (these chips would get a 5 star). They bring each person a small dish of salsa which is nice so you don't have to share! I ordered 1 chicken hard taco and 1 beef hard taco. We had a coupon for a free kids meal, which ended up being a cheese quesadilla and fries (there were other things to choose from). The tacos come only with the meat ordered, and cheese. If you add sour cream or guacamole it adds 1.00 to the cost ( which was a little crazy to me and one of the reasons for 4 versus 5 stars). I really liked the chicken taco. I'm not a big fan of beef tacos at restaurants so I'm I can't really say if there beef taco was worse than other places, but the beef reminded me of fast food restaurant (Taco Bell) beef in both taste and consistency. Service was good, the only faux pas, in my opinion, was that my plate was taken w my food still on it in a walk-by that happened in a blink of the eye, without a word or glance in my direction. In the servers defense, I had put the plate to the side but was going to request a to-go box. I was surprised that the plate was just taken w out a word on a side-swipe walk-by w half of the food still on it. I would definitely eat here again(and look forward to it) and try something off their regular menu. read more

I've followed my retired military spouse all over the nation for over 20 years and have had Mexican food in so many places (yes, even Texas). None have compared to El Perico. Their food is consistent, the salsa is soooo good with just the amount of "heat" to have flavor, and we love their non-deep fried chile relano more than any relano we've ever had. Beyond the great food, the owner and staff are just amazing and caring people. We go every single week and that will continue as long as we are able! read more

Awful. We tried it once about 2 years ago and the staff was rude. We tried it again tonight and they were just as rude if not worse. 1. We talked to the hostess and then some girl grabbed menus and just expected us to follow her. Didn't say a word. 2. Same girl threw our queso on the table without saying a word. 3. The waitress interrupted my husband when he was trying to explain what we wanted and was rude when he asked about having poblano sauce on the side of his tamales. I went to El Perico for the first time over the weekend with extended family who live in town. They are frequent diners which was evidenced by the staff knowing them by name, asking about them, and having an idea of their "favorites". We had a bigger party, all family, and they were able to safely accommodate us. We had a number of different beverages and a ton of different food items. Everything was absolutely delicious! I called in a simple order of one quesadilla. I had to call twice because of language barrier. I get there and the staff acted like they couldn't be bothered. I was not given a total. Just a hand out for my card. After I paid I stood there for 5 minutes while the cashier just kept looking out the front window like I wasn't there. Then they tell me it was sitting on the table at a booth near the entrance. It was there the whole time. So just let me stand there while it got cold. No napkins, no sour cream or pico. Just a tiny child size wrapped in foil, they I still don't know how much it cost. If I could give zero stars I would. The employees are rude and act like they cannot be bothered. Great Lunch El Perico is a better-than-average Mexican restaurant. The decor is welcoming, the service professional and the food is authentic American style Mexican. The Lunch Enchilada Supreme was more than enough and cost only $5.99. The Taco Salad ($7.50) was fresh, crispy and loaded with ground beef in a flaky Tortilla Shell. So I have heard people recommend this place but I will NEvER eat here! At 930 this am I was waiting for a ride from a local auto place and saw Merino the owner going in to this restaurant, I kindly asked with a cart full of groceries if I could sit while I waited...He said NO not here... I do not look homeless nor a vagrant that I understand local businesses would not want in front of their stores. Besides that the business wasn't opening for 2 hours. We recently moved to the area and El Perico was recommended by our realtor. Wow! The menu selection is very extensive, lots of very well prepared dishes to choose from. The staff is amazing. We were treated like long time guests and they all made us feel at home. The food is very flavorful and there is a good size portion for all their dishes. The wait time for food is very short and it always arrives hot and prepared to order, my wife is the Queen of Substitution, they always oblige and cook to her order. The owner Tony is extremely proud of his restaurant and it shows in the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff. The pricing is very affordable and very fair given the current economic environment. El Perico is our go to restaurant of choice for nights out. Don't be fooled by the location the ambiance of the restaurant is great, it is worth the drive for great food and friendly staff. been going there for almost 10 yrs. Is under new management. Food still good for American Mexican but the waitress tonite ruined the whole evening. Was my friend's birthday and I told waitress. She said "don't sing and I am busy"....Then there was a to go order not part of my taking friend for birthday. We told her immediately it was separate. When bill came, all together on adding machine tape(no descriptions). Asked her to separate and were rudely told "at the register".
