I got enchiladas...not a huge fan-the sauce tasted very tomato-ey...the atmosphere was cool, it was very warm inside (it's July) so did not get the refreshing feeling I was hoping for when stepping in from the heat. One thing about Mexican food in Raleigh... It is served up quick! The food is pretty tasty, better than the Mexican here in Colorado, and I have eaten the 18" Burrito! WOW that was an undertaking and I did get the t-shirt! The decor is very cool, bright and unique and it seems to be family run too. My wife and I miss this place. HOWEVER... Not sure what's going on with this restaurant, but they have two, yes TWO separate listings on Yelp... The other name is Los Trees Vaqueros, which is what the sign above the restaurant says. Anyway, here is the review I gave their alias, as it seems they are switching back and forth somehow: We used to love this place until recently... we loved the atmosphere and it used to have good, inexpensive, authentic Mexican food. However, last time we went which was about a month ago, it was very disappointing. I swear their salsa, which USED to be full flavored and delicious, now has ketchup in it. I know ketchup, as it's one of my favorite condiments for certain foods, but I have to admit I do not enjoy it in salsa. I asked the waiter if in fact it did contain ketchup, and she said it did not and had a flabbergasted look on her face. I guess I don't blame her for not admitting to it. The spicy bean dip was so hot it waa flavorless and shouldn't have been on the menu. Before you say not to order something spicy if you can't handle the heat, this is coming from someone who adds habanero hot sauce to everything. The service is fine, we never complain about that. We honestly had such a negative experience that, by the end, we felt bad for complaining too much, which is not a good sign. Our last visit will be just that: our last. Too bad. read more

My brother's family and mine all went out to try somewhere we haven't been. I'll be honest, I like to be positive when it comes to eating out. I understand that restaurants aren't easy to run and food is largely a matter of personal preference. I'll start positive because it'll make me feel better. Los Tres Magueyes III is colorfully decorated. Okay, now to the negatives. As soon as we sit down, chips and salsa were delivered. The chips were nothing spectacular. The salsa had an unusual flavor. The most common comparison at my table was to cocktail sauce. I think their two main salsa ingredients are ketchup and catsup. I feel bad for complaining about these because they're free. At first we thought the service would be good because the waiter overheard us discussing cheese dip and was very prompt in bringing it to the table. I don't know what happened to him right after that because when ever we tried to get his attention, Mr. Super Hearing went deaf. "Excuse me, sir? Excuse... Sir? Hello?" I eventually ordered the carnitas. I like carnitas and have had them made several ways, but what I was presented was a first for me. These things were finely shredded pork formed and fried into three little meat hockey pucks. They were dry and underwhelming. At times I couldn't even tell it was pork. I wound up using the left over cheese dip from earlier to add a little flavor. Just a side note, and this is a little thing, but it annoys me. If the menu says a dish comes with guacamole, it should have more than a tablespoon of guacamole. If I can eat the side item in one bite, it's a garnish and shouldn't be mentioned. My sister-in-law didn't fare much better. I don't remember which chicken dish she ordered, but she said it was supposed to have some sort of chipotle sauce that wasn't really there. Upon trying it, I think I can duplicate the recipe at home. Microwave some thinly pounded, unseasoned, non-marinated chicken breast and top with cheese, but don't go nuts by choosing a flavorful cheese. You could probably boil the chicken if you like, but you want that Mexican restaurant speed, so you'll need the microwave. Serve on a hot plate. Those were the things that stood out most, but in general, we were underwhelmed by the place. It was as if my middle school cafeteria opened the restaurant. MAYBE we didn't order the right stuff, but if that's the case, they're better off with a small menu of things done well as opposed to a large menu that's like a game of food roulette. I've been going here for years and probably have had about half of the menu. Its a very comfortable, homey Mexican restaurant. The interior is bright and colorful with original booth and table art and a wall length mural. Service has always been quick and friendly even if all waitress dont speak the most perfect English. And they are willing to indulge my son and happily chat to him in his very imperfect Spanish. They give a basket of complementary chips and salsa to the table when you sit down which is apparently a source of consternation for some reviewers. The salsa is a blended tomato sauce style - not the rough cut tomato thrown in a bowl with cilantro watery style that is popping up now. This is not the Moe's salsa bar. The dont have hot sauce on the table- which is a legitimate mistake- but they do have it the serving stations. Good dishes- the Burrito Mojado has a very good green sauce and is generously sized. Very good with their refried beans and some sour cream. This also do a very good job on the Bistec Steak. read more

We are from Texas & quite familiar with Mexican food. We are traveling & took a chance on this place. I am so glad we did, as this place did not disappoint. Their top shelf margaritas are incredible, & their food was truly so tasteful and delicious. The chips, salsa and guacamole were awesome as well. The service was off the charts and the restaurant was so clean. We will definitely be back when we are in town again. You have to try it~ your taste buds will thank you! read more

Los Tres Rancheros Simple, good and unpretentious food. Service can be unprofessional but it looks like they are adding staff. Have tried a few Mexican places around and this is the best one for me. You can have a great meal for cheap. read more

Here at Los Tres Magueyes III my cheese on my cheeseburger was clear, i also asked for a side and got a dish of the meal after a 15 minute argument! with the manager specifically pointing out that i got a meal but asked for a side and still had to pay for the whole thing. What i have to say about this restaurant is they have poor service and bad cooks. read more

Apparently each location must be different? I have to agree with Josh in certain areas from my experience here it was overly decorated. Maybe the owner got a lot of stuff from a Garage sale; then decided hey i'll put it in my establishment to feature it? I don't know, ok on the outside I thought it was closed at first as it looked stripped white with a bland looking sign that hadn't stuck out. Soon as I walked in the door this place almost felt like " being inside a trunk of a car" and yes it was that cramped. Out of no-where 2 waiters " appeared " out of thin air. and we got seated in our cramped table. Now foodwise.. whatever recipe this chain uses for the chili-rellenos is perfect. WOW, food was out quick, I think service was excellent because I ordered in spanish and there were only 6 people in the entire place. So value, it's actually reasonable but I'm still sticking with the one that I wrote about prior. As it's still got them beat. So " eh " I can take it or leave it. read more

Los Tres is another "blast from the past" restaurant for me, but, once again, it's been a while since I've been in. The food is still pretty good, it's quick, and I like the general look of the restaurant; very lively. However, I just felt awful after I ate...my stomach was aching for hours. Beware, you may get unsolicited text advertisements after you eat there. I've called them and asked them how they got my email and phone number and to have my name removed from their call lists. They are clueless as they said it's an add company they hired and I should contact them. Frustrated! And the smell of floor cleaning chemicals adds to the environment. read more

Its small restaurant, the handsoap in the restrooms smells bad, food isnt that wonderful, food was soggy . My son asked if he could replace the soggy enchilidas for rolled tacos. Was told that we have to pay for the food that we have now and the food we order. Price was expensive!! I suggest not to go there its not the best mexican food. read more
