I had the whole fish and that was very tasty! I highly recommend that dish! Their salsa is so good too! I can only imagine how much better it all tastes eating in. It was so delicious! When I came in to pick up the food the restaurant is so big and beautiful. They have a nice large outdoor patio too. This place would be perfect for large parties! El Pescador is one of those places that makes you feel like family the second you walk through the door. The service is always fast, friendly, and welcoming, and it's honestly one of the easiest restaurants in Fillmore to recommend with complete confidence to anyone visiting town. You can tell they genuinely care about their customers and take pride in what they do. The margaritas and micheladas are off the charts! generous pours and huge compared to the tiny drinks you get at so many other Mexican restaurants. The food is consistently great too. My personal favorite is the Pollo Tampiqueño, but their Molcajete, fajitas, albondigas, homemade tortillas are all amazing and definitely one of the highlights of the menu. I've had this place bookmarked for a long time, and I finally was able to eat here. My husband and I went for lunch during the week, and even though it was pretty busy for a Monday, we were seated right away. Our waiter came over with menus and was very helpful with a few questions that we had. We ordered a Molcagete, which is a lot of food and can definitely be shared with 2-3 people. We also ordered a camarones costa azul plate. Everything was so delicious, but the molcagete was my favorite. Another great thing about this restaurant is that they hand-make their tortillas right there. I loved the warm, hand-made tortillas. I also had a spicy margarita, which was amazing. This is the flagship location of El Pescador. Everything we ate was quality and super fresh! The service was also great, and the restaurant is beautiful. Tons of beers, margaritas, and speciality cocktails to choose from. Our party had the fajitas al pescador, Mar y 7 (soup), and pina Al pescador (pineapple). I have to say that the fajitas and soup were a 10 out of 10, and I will be revisiting for those on my next visit. The pineapple was a little bit different than expected, it was almost like a Mac n cheese. Once I mixed it with the rice it was more balanced. It did come with roasted pineapple in the seafood. Not bad but just not my personal preference for what's special here. Also the mixtas ceviche (not pictured) was so delicious. That with a tall modelo, and I was set. He's so funny and friendly, he'll come sit right in your booth with his bottle of Tequila and talk about living life to its fullest. That's the real family restaurant experience. Me and my friends have been eating at El Pescador for years. It's always a great option when in the area and an awesome option when someone is visiting from out of town where they don't get great Mexican food. The service is always good. There's always a crowd so you know it's always popular. The vibes are always on point. I love how they added the huge space covered outside of the original restaurant. On this most recent day there was a table of 50 people being served without issue. We made sure to get our order in before they did so we didn't get stuck. Our food came out fast and it came out perfect. We started with chips and salsa. Ordered guacamole and the bean dip. All delicious. We were waiting for the rest of our party to show so we ordered a recommendation sampler plate which was very tasty. The chimichurris on it were perfect. I had the Mojarra Frita that is a fun fantastic fried dish for the occasion. I fancy the mango margaritas blended. Always get the giant. Just be careful when they ask you if you want a second. We got 2 drinks and the Watermelon Sandia was HUGE and on its own was $30 on the bill! The waitress warned us it would be big but not twice the cost of a normal drink and enough for two people. I came here for a work lunch with a group of about 20 people. The restaurant is quite large. There is a main part of the restaurant that was really busy by the bar area but we were sat in another section of the restaurant and had the entire dining area to ourselves. We had great service from start to finish. We ordered our drinks and food within a few minutes and our food actually came out before our drinks did. I ordered a chile verde burrito (dry). I appreciate the side of guacamole for a garnish and that they did not add a bunch of rice as a filler. The inside of my burrito only had pork chile verde and refried beans. The meat was soft and full of flavor. I enjoyed how large my burrito was too. Many of my coworkers got seafood items and they also looked delicious but I didn't snap any photos. I pass by the place so many times for work on my weekly commute but I think it would definitely be worth a stop on a road trip coming home from the Central Valley back to Ventura. read more

I never had any complaints about this fine place until today. My Cuatro Mares wasn't as good as it used to be. Service was okay, and the waitress wasn't very attentive, so I had to ask another waitress for help. Pepsi products are terrible! Or at least bring real agua fresca or Mexican bottled drinks. My husband and I decided on el Pescador for our day date on a Sunday afternoon. Once we walked in the atmosphere was very fun! Music was great! I personally love banda & the place was full of laughter & smiles ( a great sign). We hadn't been in a while so we were very excited to try some delicious mariscos. Well, we were not disappointed! Our server first of all was very attentive & even though the place was very loud she listened carefully & made sure our order was right. I've loved everything I've ordered here. Really tasty rice and beans, great tacos, excellent enchiladas, savory chile verde, it's all good! But what made me have to write this review is the Shrimp Cocktail. Whenever I think about ordering shrimp at a restaurant I get nervous. I worry there won't be enough shrimp in whatever dish I order because I have a distorted sense of what constitutes an individual serving size of shrimp. I need a hell of a lot of shrimp to make me happy. And a hell of a lot of shrimp is exactly what you get when you order a Shrimp Cocktail here. Plenty of shrimp, even for the likes of me. So many shrimp! The Shrimp Cocktail comes in two sizes. When I first started coming here I'd get the small size, and I was entirely satisfied. But then I tried the large, and, well, there's no going back now. So.....many.....shrimp! The large Shrimp Cocktail rules supreme! And I need to say, it's not just about the number of shrimp that makes the Shrimp Cocktail here so great. The cocktail sauce the shrimp are served in is phenomenally good in its own right. Plus it's loaded with lusciously ripe diced avocado. This is not a shrimp cocktail where I'm fine with leaving half a glass of cocktail sauce after all the shrimp are picked out. The waitstaff always asks if you want your Shrimp Cocktail with "everything." I'm allergic to raw onions and I appreciate the fact that I can order my Shrimp Cocktail without them, and it actually comes to the table that way. I love El Pescador because I don't have to worry about the shrimp situation. I know for a fact there are going to be plenty of shrimp. I can relax and feast on shrimp to my heart's content. Dads 60th bday and he loves El Pescador but the Fillmore one. As kids for any special occasion we'd go to the Santa Paula location but that one has gone downhill. My dad practically knows everyone at the restaurant. It had been years since I had been here. The restaurant has expanded since I had been here. They opened up another section. I ordered the nachos and they were huge. Good not the best but good. Most of my siblings who also came to celebrate our dad liked there food. Most importantly, my dad loved it! They even brought out the mariachi hat to put on him and sang him happy birthday (tears). Not too crazy busy or loud in the area we sat but it's was on the other side away from the bar area. Pretty restaurant. Parking can be crazy as it is very popular. People love from all Ventura County to eat here. Service was awesome. We had to to well because our server went above and beyond. This is my second visit and it's still just as amazing as it was the first time! Our server, Fernando, was absolutely the best! This guy needs a raise and acknowledgement! (Employee of the month perhaps!?!) First test for a Mexican restaurant is its chips and salsa. Fresh made and hot chips with the perfect salsa. It's going to be a win! We got there during happy hour so margaritas were only$6 and came in large pint glasses, not some mini tumbler like so many other places. I got the mango chamoy and it was delicious. My friends had the pomegranate margaritas and they were delicious too. We decided to share the Don Alejo family platter for$60. So much food! The food came out fast and hot! Tons of rice&beans. Pork, chicken, steak & chorizo. Quesadillas. Guac, creme and pico. Taquitos. Fresh made tortillas. We were stuffed and brought a ridiculous amount of food home. I absolutely recommend this place! Always love coming to this place. Nice little halfway stop between Santa Clarita and Ventura. Love the Mexican seafood options that they have and they are plenty of them! They have a nice little bar there too, so you can get a Michelada or a margarita. We had the fried fish which I always love as well as garlic, shrimp and steak. Price point is pretty good as well. Can't say it enough, love this place! Great vibe all around. As we enter the pleasingly decorated dining room, we're always cheerfully greeted and feel welcomed to enjoy fabulous Mexican seafood. Service is energetic, attentive and always with a smile. Never happened to come by on a weekday, but so glad we did. All 24 weekday Lunch specials are $12.99 and the portions are a big as dinner. We both overate and heading to our campsite with lunch for tomorrow. If you happen to be on the 126 near Fillmore, this is a perfect stop. Excellent Mexican food several seafood dishes drinks if you like in a very large dining area perfect for groups noise level is high. You can get one of the side rooms to cut it down. Sunday is their busiest night but they seem to be busy no matter what day of the week you're there. The staff does come by for the order. And they seem to work in partnership with each other so your food should come out quickly just enjoy. read more

One of my go-tos for lunch when in the Fillmore area. They have a good lunch menu here with plenty of options and good prices. There should realistically be something for everyone on there. Usually end up getting the Pollo Tampequeno or the Chile Relleno. Both are delicious options and have rather large portions (especially for a lunch special!). They also have a large drink menu with plenty of classic as well as more modern offerings. While I will typically order a Cadillac Margarita, their tropical margarita and their Watermelon Candy are also some good choices when I'm looking for something different. While it's not normally busy when I stop by for lunch during the week, this place can get PACKED for dinner and on the weekends. While they have a large restaurant, it's incredible how popular they are and how packed it gets. So just keep that in mind when coming. Overall, wouldn't be my first pick for Mexican food, but the food is consistently good and will always be my first choice to grab a bite when in the Fillmore area. read more

Was not expecting this gem in Fillmore! Looks can be deceiving! We've passed by the place multiple times when on our way to Ventura. Passing by this place, it never caught our interest. It looked like a Vallarta Supermarket from the outside. The inside was partitioned into two areas one side looked like it should be open air seating but it's fully covered. The other side like a regular restaurant with a bar the main focal point is the hand made tortilla station in the center of the room. We had shrimp ceviche tostadas, Aguachiles verdes and the mocajete. Everything was delicious. Generous portions as well. The shrimp dishes were great made me feel like I was back in Mexcaltitan. The chorizo and steak from the mocajete was my favorite part of the meal with the home made corn tortillas. The service fell a bit short, but it was packed. Would definitely come again! read more
