Food was excellent and portions were large. The restaurant was very clean and my granddaughter and her friend loved the decor.

Do not, I repeat, do not eat here. Last week I ordered 2 double jack cheeseburgers and fries. Took them home to my nephew and he found a small piece of metal in his burger . I then went back to show it to them and the older lady there kept apologizing saying something broke in the kitchen and they couldn't find the pcs and now she knew where they went after I showed them the burger . She apologized at least 10 times. I told them I wanted the burger and pc of metal back and they said they threw it away and couldn't find it. They then called the owner and they suddenly changed their attitudes and accused me of lying and putting the pc of metal in there. The owners name is Supposedly William and he had been a dick with me since it happened .. Do not eat here . They don't take responsibility for their actions . And they all have shitty attitudes .. i wouldn't even let my dog eat their shitty food.. we figured out the pc of metal came from a broken spatula or scraper .. read more

Indeed, 3.7, the ambiance is clean, classic, and same way, simple. It is a family owned, they make for sure the same food they cook home. The salsa was good, spicy not so much, the burrito was good. A well deserved Piru 5 star rating. The Mexican prepared food is equivalent to a home cooked meal. These are the kind of places that I love to dine at, a mom and pop restaurant that is located in the middle of nowhere, very old school city and dwellings that probably haven't been touched since you've been alive. That being said, with the extensive menu (see my pictures), they have everything, simple Mexican food and it's just plainly good, they have all the condiments for you to spice it up however you like but the base flavor of everything they offer is fresh and plentiful. The menudo and pozole are not to be missed! I also had their chile verde which was excellent and not spicy which I prefer. Wonderful small Mexican restaurant in the tiny town of Piru. They are friendly and reasonably priced. Definitely with a visit!

Was out in Piru to do a little shooting with a few of my managers. One of my managers suggested we come to Poncho's for bfast before heading up to the cabin for a day of fun. Poncho's brought me back to my college days when a suite mates gf used to make us breakfast during our cramming sessions before midterms and finals. Chips and salsa were offered to us and needless to say, the chips were freshly fried which made them taste 100x better. I had a tough choice deciding between the chili verde plate and the chorizo burrito. To relive my college days, I opted for the chorizo burrito. There's something about the combination of scrambled eggs, chorizo and potatoes that just warms the body on a cold day. The burrito that was served had the perfect combination of all ingredients and was hearty enough to keep me going the whole day spent outdoors. My only complaint was that I would've liked the potatoes to be crispier. If in the area, I would not hesitate coming back here for breakfast or lunch as the food is as authentic as it gets. read more

Really great place in this small town. The menu wasn't huge, but I love a place that makes what they offer well. Came in for breakfast and got the large menudo. My eyes were bigger than my stomach. It was flavorful and so big that I took some home. Toss in some really good chorizo and eggs and a kids breakfast of pancakes, bacon and eggs and we were all really satisfied. I can see why there were a lot of people coming and going. We'll be back for sure. read more

Everything tasted very fresh and the flavor was great. I know it sounds weird, but I really like the tortillas they use. I also like the flavor of the rice. This is the best Mexican food in the county ..original authentic. My favorite is the hard shell chicken breast tacos served with fresh refried beans and rice. Salsa is mild or hot I prefer the mild. Brenda the owner and her husband participate in all the needs of our little community. They donated beans and rice for my father in laws celebration of life. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor . They help when trying to raise money when tragedy hits a family....they are beautiful people.. they have never met a stranger... If you need to get out and enjoy the day Please come and visit our little town of Piru stop.. eat and visit our Lake.... the prices are great...atmosphere is small and cozy..they also offer catering with a variety of meals. Thursday in Piru - it's raining , cold I needed some comfort food and I see this spot. Walking in it's a very unassuming spot - locals - people visiting the lake - nothing fancy just some tables and a lady or two working the spot. I ordered the huevos rancheros.. my goto for trying a New Mexican spot. It was ok - nothing memorable - nothing to make me think it wasn't good just nothing to make me want to come back anytime soon. In Piru you don't have many options so if you need a taco fix I'm sure they are good but no need to go out of your way to stop in. Just my opinion. read more

This family-run affair is in the sleepy Hamlet of Piru. Now, to call this particular Hamlet 'sleepy' is like calling the prince of Denmark 'sleepy' at the end of the play. Accordingly, this place should be called 'Poncho's Palace' because Poncho is the king of Piru. Everything is solid, but the tortas in particular are gi-normous and tasty. If you're in the mood for protein and roughage, order the Carl Special (off-menu). A hefty portion of carnitas, salad, and homemade tortillas and you'll be ready for the drive back to civilization (or a light insulin coma). Either way, a good time had by all. 4 Stars for good food and a good price. 1 Star for the ridiculously fantastic service. read more

I recognized this place as I drove by from the TV series Desperate Housewives it's from the scene when Gabby goes back to her native Texas small town but make no mistake there is nothing desperate about this Restaurant I ordered la carne asada torta I had no idea that Avocado and jalapenos would be included when they asked "with everything" nice surprise! Poncho's is a nice little restaurant in the tiny city of Piru. The whole city reminds you of the old west as you can envision Cowboys riding around the small aged town. We popped into Poncho's starving as we had been on the road for a long time, so we decided to refuel. Poncho's is small, but has a warmness to it, like your grandmother is cooking you dinner. I ordered the Nachos and my spousa ordered the tacos with civiche. The food hit the spot, and tasted great. The restaurant teeters between a 3 and 4, but to be fair, it doesn't quite match up in quality of my 4 star ratings. Nonetheless Pancho's is most likely the best restaurant in Piru, and has an extremely friendly staff! Give it a try! read more

one of my favorite casual Mexican diners I've been to. My wife and I were driving to Ventura from SCV and got hungry. I decided I would really like to find a cute place to eat in Piru. I lucked out on the first try. This is casual diner and I'm reviewing it as such. It's informal. The service was good, friendly, we felt like we were "in their kitchen", felt very welcome. The chips were home made with a nice salsa. Hot, fresh tortilla chips. You don't see that everyday. My wife said her chili verde was good, the pork was lean. I didn't try it but it looked like comfort food to me. The chorizo platter was serious comfort food, old school So-Cal memories type food, generous portion. We'll be back, this is our new Saturday brunch spot for sure. read more

Pancho's place is a small diner that you can sneeze and pass up. It sits in a very small town on the way to the outdoor gun range we go to- Mike Thompson's. This place is nothing fancy at all, but they are a small family owned place with everything made fresh. This has become tradition for days that we go to train at the range. Good but very average Mexican food. Was really hoping for something more. Chips were very good. Ordered the chile verde, which they recommended. Rice and beans were just OK. The entree was good but nothing to write home about. The place did have a nice hole in the wall feel to it. Ultimately, this is Piru and there really is nothing much else to eat here. If you end up here, it certainly is not bad. But I would probably head down to Fillmore instead if I was headed that direction. read more

I tried this spot, as someone had recommended it. Unfortunately, not up to par. I arrived to pick up my order and I asked (who seemed to be) the owner if they could toast my burrito a bit. I was told "They are already made" No attempt whatsoever to cater to client. I arrived back to my jobsite to find what is so far the worst burrito I've ever had. The burrito was practically a bean burrito and egg (lots of egg), and the bacon was still raw. I've read all the reviews thus far and I'm sorry to read so many people are satisfied with mediocre food and service. Hopefully someone else has a better experience. read more

My family and I drive approximately 45min just to come eat here at this wonderful restaurant. This is a nice small family restaurant with great food. Let me tell you my favorite is the menudo, hands down the best Ive ever had. They also make the best agua Fresca, always fresh and ready to go. Great place to go to for a motorcycle ride. The food is awesome and the service excellent. Very reasonable prices. I had the birria with rice and beans. The salsa is tasty.
