Prices are totally fair for the quality, and the service is genuinely great -- friendly, fast, and on point. Now... the only reason this isn't a full 5 stars: the ordering process feels like a mini endurance challenge, and the patio could really use more cooling. With how much business they're clearly doing, a few more fans or and AC wouldn't hurt -- especially when you're trying to enjoy hot barbacoa in hot weather. Took a short road trip to Piru just to try this spot, and wow--it did not disappoint. These are easily some of the most delicious tacos I've had in a long time. The meat was incredibly juicy, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The vibe feels very much like a traditional Mexican pueblo--warm, cozy, and authentic. You can tell this is a family-owned and operated place, which makes the experience even better. Service was a bit slow, but everyone was friendly and welcoming, so it didn't bother us. Prices are very affordable for the quality you're getting. One tip: if you're coming for the barbacoa, come early! We arrived around 1:30 PM and it was already sold out (they only make it on Sundays). Overall: amazing food, great atmosphere, and absolutely worth the drive. We drove an hour to try it. Crazy packed, over an hour wait to order and another hour for food just for it to be the wrong order and have to wait another 20 minutes for the right one. We initially came for the barbacoa and it was alone out. They had a menus to look at while we waited just so that when we got to the front door, it wasn't even from this location. Would not recommend. They were also rude, I understand it was busy and we didn't complain one bit until the order came wrong. Totally Overhyped!! Was turned onto this place by an Instagram post. Man were we not disappointed! The first thing you have to get past is the fact that it's located in a Shell gas station convenience store. At first this gave me apprehension until we tried the food. The tacos were amazing regardless of the meat you pick, the burritos are awesome, and they have plenty of other options as well. On Saturdays, they hand make their tortillas which is a nice plus. They also have a Barbacoa that they do, especially on Saturdays. Love all their salsa options as well. It has been our favorite go to taco place for the last two months. The only downside is that it does take a few extra minutes to get your food, but that's because everything is prepared on demand and fresh. Another downside is that there is no menu posted online and when you go into the place, there are no prices posted on their menu which is displayed. I was really excited to bring my family here after seeing this place promoted online, but the experience was extremely disappointing. Their posted hours say they close at 11 PM, but when we arrived around 2 PM, the restaurant was already closed. We knocked on the door to ask if they were open, and instead of acknowledging us or apologizing, the staff turned off the lights and walked to the back. No explanation, no courtesy--nothing. I understand businesses sometimes need to close early, but basic communication and professionalism are the bare minimum. After reading other reviews, it seems this is not an isolated incident, which is even more concerning. Sadly, we won't be returning. Just know that calling ahead of time won't make much of a difference. They'll close whenever they feel like it. read more

Getting there I didn't know what to expect. As this was my first time there. As soon as I walked thru the door I smelled the deliciousness of the meats. I knew I was at the right spot. The cashier greeted me and asked if I was ready to order. I said yes and right off the back I already knew what I was going for. The tacos de cochinita. The wait wasn't too long even though people were already waiting ahead of me. The service was great and I can't complain. As I got my food let me tell you it was everything I expected. Almost close to moms but not quite there. You know mom's cooking is always number one hehe. But yes the food was delicious. The hand made tortillas gave it that extra yumminess. The meat was cooked to perfection and was very tender. As I took a bite into it the flavor was almost as good as mom's. But the only thing missing was the habanero sauce or chile. So I had the menudo and at first I noticed it didn't have any hominy which is the authentic way to make it but I happen to like the hominy so I was a little skeptical that I would enjoy it but as soon as I had the first spoon full I totally forgot all about the hominy. The flavors were spot on and the portions were perfect they could have served me a bowl of the broth and I would have been happy. My girlfriend had the enchiladas half red and green with rice and beans and it was delicious the enchiladas were made with homemade tortillas that added a unique texture that you don't get from most enchiladas. The ambience was perfect I'm a fan of low lightning in restaurants and that was the vibe here no bright lights makes it feel more homey. I have been trying different barbacoa places throughout Southern California. The one they serve here on Sundays is the most tender lamb I've had out of all the places I've checked out so far. The homemade tortillas and the sides are great as well. The rice and beans are on and off but I'm not really there for that. I also don't care for the menudo. I have another place in LA for that. But the barbacoa is excellent. I noticed another reviewer here said there was no flavor. I think that's absolutely false. They don't need to add a lot of stuff to the lamb. Wow this place is phenomenal. Tucked into a tiny quaint little town it's very nondescript. Plenty of parking and easy to find. I ordered the #5 - 3 taco plate. 2 carnitas and one carne and all 3 were excellent. Perfectly cooked with amazing tortillas which seemed handmade. I have two other restaurants in Ventura that are amazing and I love, but this place tips the scale with its movie set quality, homemade tortillas like you'll find in a small Mexican cafe IN Mexico, and EVERY sauce a perfect dream. And they have Modelo Negro and beach scene tabletops, as they should, but the vibe doesn't begin there. In case you're looking for restaurant parking signs, if the curb is full, pull up into a dirt lot, that's your parking. First, we were served small batch homemade chips w tomatillo sauce, classic. Second, our food came QUICK. And it was hot off the stove. I love that. I had the tres enchiladas, and I asked for Christmas sauce (Rojo and Verde). So, 3 cheese enchiladas w both red and green sauce. I wasn't even that hungry but couldn't stop taking bites of the homemade tortillas and incredible sauces and not crammed full, but just the right amount of cheese.
