We made a visit to El Pollo Loco today. We each ordered a two piece combo meal. My wife got the white meat version whilst I got the dark meat. For sides, she got rice and corn and I chose Mac n cheese plus coleslaw. The chicken tasted good and the sides were okay but the portions seen to be getting smaller, especially the chicken. We had a completely different experience coming to El Pollo Loco in the morning compared to the night time. In the morning, everything felt welcoming from the moment we walked in. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel comfortable right away. The biggest difference was definitely the taste and flavor of the food. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. You could tell the food had just been made, and our order came out super fast. It's always a crapshoot when it comes to chain restaurants, especially those who franchise. I love El Pollo Loco as an on-the-go option. This particular location turned out to be one of the good ones. The chicken was as good as expected; for those of you that love El Pollo Loco chicken as I do. The staff was welcoming / friendly and the turnaround on the order was fast. Dining room overall was clean and the restroom was clean and stocked (paper towels and soap). Frustrated giving a 2 star but not worth the 3rd star. Ordered the chicken tacos al carbon which is my go to item here. As usual they were very good especially with the avocado salsa. I ordered a horchata to drink which tasted like it was starting to go bad. Then ordered churros for dessert. Very crispy and difficult to chew. The AvonHell curse continues. At 1pm on a Sunday, El Pollo Loco was "out" of pico de gallo and salsa?? This seems a bit of a lie or a stretch of the imagination or some lazy employees perhaps? Anyways, the meal on Saturday could have used some salsa, but still was one of the best I have had at this chain. It was a double chicken tostada salad with a creamy cilantro? dressing I think. Everything was great and it had rice, cheese, lettuce, avocado and loads of well cooked pollo. It was about 9 bucks with a drink and even the tostada shell was quite good and not greasy. The other meal was a bowl of chicken with avocado and corn and cabbage. This one was just average - it seems you need to order double chicken to get enough meat to fill you up. We ordered 12 piece chicken meal along with a couple salads. I was completely shocked when I opened the box to make up our plates. We had a total of 6 little wing pieces with MAYBE a little bite of chicken on each. They should have been trashed NOT sold. The legs were not much bigger than my finger not even joking. The breast were small but at least had a few bites on them. All in all very disappointed and will probably never visit this food chain again. Very expensive lesson in my book. read more

I read so many reviews so I guess my expectations were high. Unfortunately we did not have a great experience. The food was ok, nothing to rave about. The first bag of "chips" was chips crumbs and dust, had to get up and ask to get actual chips. There was a bowl in the order it was missing chickenless chicken. Out of four tacos we got three. So had to get up three times during a meal because it wasn't as it should have been. Needless to say we are not coming back. read more

The food was excellent but the service was a bit lackluster. The rewards program wouldn't allow me to use both a coupon and my reward dollars even though the cashier said it would work. I had to use the coupon first which took $1 off but then couldn't use my $10 in reward funds. The cashier said " oh oops, maybe you can't use both". Better education of the program would be helpful. They are hiring but that is not why we ate there. We needed a quick, less expensive place to eat dinner after a lousy experience at the nearby Avondale Mazda dealership. It was my first visit of El Pollo Loco. The cashier was friendly and attentive. It was cool seeing hundreds of pieces of chicken cooking. It helped me decide to get their 4 piece meal. Another factor, I spoke with a customer who recommended the chicken. As I sat eating the chicken, it made me think about the tv show Breaking Bad and even if this place had any close association with Breaking Bad I wouldn't care because their chicken was amazing. I also had a side of pinto beans and coleslaw. The pinto beans I applied to the complimentary tortillas, also very tasty. I also tried their mild salsa (I'm a lightweight when it comes to spiciness) and WOW it was delicious. I would have given 5 stars if the amount of chicken had been greater. I noticed other poor reviews but it seems it's for the drive-thru. I noticed near the drive-thru window a collection of pre-made bags. I'm unsure what was in the bags, hopefully just napkins and utensils. Eating in was a good choice. read more

This is by far the WORST location to buy "food" at. The owner should literally be held responsible by the chain for bringing down the name of the company. Our food came to us late and COLD. And our orders didn't come at the same time but more than 15 - 20 minutes apart. The staff should all be fired because all they were interested in were going home 2 hours early as the chairs had all been put up and the lobby. Very unwelcoming. The chips were stale. LAZY workers.
