Kids meal is a wonderful value. You can choose a variety of meal options but I got the 2 piece tender meal. It came with tenders, fries, toast, and a drink all for $5.99. However, I was expecting juicy chicken per their table cards on they make the chicken. The chicken was extremely dry and has little to no flavor. I got 5 sauces for $1.99 which was a pretty nice option especially for it being my first time and wanting to sample different sauces. Every sauce I got was great! Toast was very simple but was buttered on both sides and was extra crispy. Only downfall was that it was sandwich bread. Rather underwhelming. The food was just kinda OK, and why would I ever come here when I have Chick-fil-A or canes or a dozen other chicken places? I just don't understand the thought process of putting the most unfriendly and stone face person at the register who just stares at you as you walk in. Wow, that was a pleasant surprise! To be honest, I am not a big chicken tenders fan. I like dark meat! However, Slim Chickens was a new place to try and hey, they have fried okra, so I was in. The restaurant is a trendy looking place with plenty of parking. The interior is clean and simple. Their menu is very simple with only a few choices. The person at the register wasn't overly friendly, but did get our order right. Alright, so we did try the tenders. Rather than french fries, I got the fried mushrooms and my wife got the okra. The surprise was that even though they don't do a lot, what they do, they do extremely well. Move over DQ Country Basket! While I am not a tender fanatic, the breading was really good and the chicken well seasoned and moist. I chose the country gravy as my sauce. It was as good as I've ever had. The fried mushrooms were also as good as I've had and the okra not far behind. The final surprise was the Texas toast. It was buttery and garlicky and again, some of the best that I've had. I went with the 3 & 3 Meal which comes with 3 tenders and 3 wings. For sauces I got the Slim Sauce and the Cayenne Ranch. My Bf got the same meal but with Mango Habanero and Garlic Parmesan. We both really liked the Cayenne Ranch and the Garlic Parmesan. The Slim Sauce was okay, but nothing special. Neither of us liked the Mango Habanero. It was too Mango and not enough Habanero. The wings were good - nice and crispy. I got mine with the Lemon Pepper dry rub. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. We got 2 Hungry Combos and swapped fried pickles for fries on one of them. Total came out to just under $40.00 which isn't cheap, but isn't bad either, all things considered with the current prices of fast food/eating out. Food was excellent! Their strips are really good! Freshly fried, piping hot, SEASONED (looking at you, Raising Canes) and delicious. They have about 10 different choices of dipping sauces. I tried honey mustard, Korean BBQ, spicy bbq and ranch. Loved all of them except the Korean BBQ...even then, it wasn't bad. Fries were crispy, fried pickles were cut thin and delicious, and the toast was crunchy. Really good meal. I decided to finally stop by here to try a new chicken place nearby and I'll have to say I enjoyed their food. The service inside is absolutely great even after we ordered employees were coming by asking to take any garbage or to see if we needed anything else , also the attentiveness of the employees when someone leaves they make sure and clean the tables chairs and everything. When we went it was pretty busy inside and the had TVs , wasn't too loud. Now to the food I really wanted some chicken and waffles which I thought were really good and would definitely order again. I will never return to this location. We ordered our food at 1:03 PM and didn't get it until around 1:40 PM. Several other people were also waiting on delayed orders, and there were no apologies or communication from the staff. When the food finally came out, it was terrible. The chicken wings were old, stale, and had barely any sauce. The fried mushrooms were mushy instead of crispy, the fries were cold and tasted old, and the mac & cheese didn't look edible. The cashier lady just stood there on her phone, while we tried to figure out the menu. I thought I wanted to try the brownies, but how in the heck are you trying to sell a $2 brownie that's literally the size of a Ritz cracker. I'm so excited that this location is finally open!! Missed Slim Chickens from when we lived in Texas (one of the only things we miss). But the location in Peoria is as too far away to enjoy on the regular. Down the street this place is about to take a lot of my $! By far best chicken quality of any chicken place. Sauces to die for: Mango Habanero beats anywhere else in terms of perfect heat/sweet ratio. Cayenne Ranch for the fries is a must. Honey Mustard is also insanely good.
