The food is absolutely terrible. Maybe it's a one off visit but it was so disappointing. I got the pork torta toasted and it was not toasted. The meat was very dry and tasted old. Fries tasted like they were fried in old oil. I also got a small side of nachos with extra jalapeños. The cheese was COLD. The combo came with a drink and I chose the horchata. I used to come to this spot growing up, but had not visited in years! It didn't disappoint. When you can't stop eating a simple bean and cheese burrito, you know the rest of the food is going to be delicious. Love the concept of having tacos come in a combo with a side of fries and a drink. Fries AND tacos, genius! They have sooo many options from pan dulce to elote, basically any Mexican treat you can think of. The agua Frescas are the best I have tried in a restaurant, so yummy and authentic. I came here to try the fish tacos and I was not disappointed. Everything was made fresh to order. Fish was hot and crispy and delicious. Even the sauce they put on top of it was good. Just like how I will usually get a burrito at a taco shop, apparently I'll also get tacos at a torta shop! We stepped into this cozy little eatery for a quick dinner before heading to the stadium for a show. I picked this place because it looked like a fast casual restaurant and it also had a tantalizing array of desserts and pastries for my nieces if they wanted to indulge in anything after dinner. I had a mixed fruit agua fresca and shared the ribeye tacos. You have your choice of flour or corn tortilla, I'm more used to corn with tacos so I went with corn tortilla. The agua fresca was cool, sweet and refreshing. It had a light hint of cantaloupe flavor in it, was lightly creamy and had small chunks of fruit to sip up as you drank. The ribeye tacos had well seasoned, tender beef, and I loved the inclusion of veggies like avocado and crispy cabbage to provide some textural difference in the tacos. There's a little salsa bar off to the side which has green and red salsas, marinated carrots, onions, and roasted peppers. The only slight negative is that it was a little warm inside but the agua fresca did a good job at cooling me down. Service was fast and friendly. I can't count how many times I've driven by this place. It's been on my "I have to go here for lunch at some point list". The inside had less seating that I expected, a lot of dead space to be honest. There is some outdoor seating but who wants to do that at 100 Plus degrees? We ordered a torta ahogata which was decent but not spectacular. We ordered the fish tacos which were ok but didn't blow me away. Not something I'd go out of my way for. We also ordered esquites which was awful. I have no idea how they managed to mess this one up. The corn was tasteless and chewy and 3/4 of the container was water. My guess is this had been boiling for hours. We wanted a small amount of chips for the side of the esquites, but apparently you can't just order chips. We ended up ordering chips, salsa and guacamole in place of another entree since we couldn't get some on their own. Three full entrees and two appetizers was just too much for the three of us so we improvised and did two appetizers and two entrees (mind you if they did chips on the side we would have spent more and been happier). The guacamole was standard, the salsa was watery and thin, no real bite or distinct flavor. Chips were mediocre. I really enjoy Tortas Paquime because they have a large variety to choose from and the authenticity of their fair is top notch. For me it is the best Torta in the Phoenix area and the fact they make their ice cream in house and bake their own breads which are for sale as well gives it a true Mexican feel. They are alright our first time I was expecting greatness but after having it, it's more of if we never ate there again we wouldn't be sad. I got the queza birra tacos and the torta Mexicana the meat was good but lacked the flavor you expected the torta was okay. Most disappointing part is they don't let you customize for instance I wanted no mushroom on my torta mexicana and all the lady said was it's mixed in. My husband wanted to add cheese to his she said it doesn't come with cheese I'm like where on earth do they NOT like charging extra for cheese so that was pretty bizarre. I've had their quesadilla paquime, a few bites of my friend's ribeye tacos, their tortas cubana, and some other bites here and there. Everything I've had here has always been fresh and flavorful and the portions are decent for their price. As for their horchata... delicious and refreshing! Tortas Paquime is a casual dining spot that's always busy. Don't forget to make a stop at their salsa bar. They also have huge cases of baked pastries and a very impressive ice cream bar. The young lay at the order counter was very nice and friendly. She offered us samples of the agua fresca. I really like the fresh fruit juice. Must get the strawberry/cantaloupe flavor. So creamy and good. The salsa bar is basic with spicy roja or mild green verde. Since it was our first time, we decided: ****Carne asada tacos: good for now. You can never go wrong with "Tacos de Ribeye" Yummmmmmmm Everything is fresh and tasty. Their tostadas, tortas and tacos are delicious. I love their fresh horchata. You gotta try their Nieves (ice cream) Salsa and guacamole sauce is the best, that's what makes the tacos so dam good. Have visited the other location in Phoenix and liked it enough to search out this one during a visit to the west end. Ordered a Torta Mexicana and my wife had 4 different tacos (ribeye, pastor, chicken & carne asada). Torta was OK. Bread was fresh but fillings not as generous as what I was accustomed to. Tacos were so dry my wife almost choked when trying to swallow. We also had strawberries & creme as well as a Tres leches. Cake in the Tres leches was disappointing and despite the "leche" it was probably the driest version of this (my favorite Mexican dessert) I've ever had. Okay I'll start with why it lost a star. I got a vegetarian torta and all it was, was avocado and a slice of tomato in bread. Nott what I was expecting and very plain. I didn't even end up eating it. But I have to say I probably ordered the most wrong item to order here. On to the Good! This place was darling. I didn't have high expectations from the outside and was curious about the 4 star rating. The inside was impressive. It was extremely clean, festive, and had a huge variety. The bathrooms were extremely clean as well. I ordered a corn cup and it was delicious. A little too much lime for my tasting but hit the spot nonetheless. This is definitely somewhere that I will check out again next time I'm in the area but order something else. Oh and I will DEFINITELY get some dessert... they looked soooo good.
