Getting ready for the Rams game and everybody wanted El Pollo Loco so I called it into our local restaurant on on Stockdale Highway. I made it down there right away. Restaurant was busy my order will be up in five minutes. Good friendly service from Diego . Two big bags of delicious eats. Arrived at sons house early for the game, the food was more important than the kickoff. 16 pieces of moist chicken with all the right spices, salad, mac and cheese rice and beans and 3 chicken avacado burritos were especially delicious, chips & guacamole were gone before the first score. This is the closest to my home so I've been here a few times because It's convenient but they always get my order wrong. From no salsa to no tortillas or sour cream when I said no sour cream and old lettuce. I have come to this El Pollo Loco so many times and El Pollo Loco is just one of those fast food places that are just really good in general. There's not too many places near my workplace to go to during lunch time and this one is just down the street from my workplace. This place gets extremely packed during lunch time and literally wraps around the building if you come during the lunch rush. The funny part is that, if you go down and order your food inside, you'll get your food faster than the drive-thru. I happen to be a fan of El Pollo Loco only because they have so many different items to offer and it's hard to get tired of them because there's so many different options. They stopped selling my favorite taco for about a year or so now and it was a bit of a disappointment when that happened, but when all else fails... just order something new til you find something else you end up liking. Their crunchy taco used to have the green enchilada sauce inside, but now they serve it with the red sauce and it's just as good, so my disappointment faded quickly. Their healthier menu has some pretty good tasting food also. Normally when you order from the healthier menu, the food is bland, but the wraps are really good. They also have a really good cheap salad. I love the Loco Salad dressing, it's pretty addicting. They also have tons of fresh salsas to choose from and you can pretty much help yourself for free and try every single one of them til you find the one you like. I'm not a big fan of the churro. I'm a dessert person and everyone who knows me knows that I will choose dessert first. I gave their churro a chance on so many different occasions and it's always the same every time. It's always oily and it just doesn't taste like the oil was drained, so I just don't order the churro anymore. El Pollo Loco in Bakersfield on Stockdale Avenue is one of the worst El Pollo Loco's in history. I tell myself I'm never going back there again. But when my life gets chaotic it becomes convient. After a long day I like to order my food and have it delivered. I took a chance and order delivery. My order was wrong. I ordered mixed chicken I got all white. The chicken was hard, dry some of the pieces were burnt. The beans were not as cooked as they should have been. Looked as though they were poured right out of a can, I received the wrong salsa. I was so upset I wanted to make a hated trip to El Pollo to return this overpriced day old chicken! I've talked to the Managers about the cook overcooking and burning the chicken. It all just falls on death ears. El Pollo Loco is not taking these reviews seriously because nothing changes. The only way you can ensure a decent order is to go in personally and state what you want and the way you want it. Check your order before you leave. If you don't you're taking a chance of spending your hard earn money on a meal that you can't possible eat or enjoy! Also eating at the location is NOT desirable. Don't really know what's going on. Did the chicken get smaller? We ordered a 4 piece chicken meal a double chicken bowl and small guac. and chips. The meal was as usual taste wise, but the chicken looked like pigeon size. The bowl had a decent amount of chicken, but dry. There was a tiny bit of rice and a ton of beans! The avocado was 3 tiny slices, so I added the extra guac.. the guac was the same taste as the avocado. Sad. The chips were inedible, hard as rocks. Then to add insult to injury the mild cilantro sauce I requested wasn't mild and instead of adding flavor it ruined the meal. Never going again! After 17 years. read more

I really like El Pollo Loco. I absolutely love the under 500 calorie menu! And as I've mentioned in other reviews, I'm a sucker for a salsa bar. I ordered the double chicken and avocado salad. It was really good. I put salsa instead of dressing to save calories and it was great! But, the lettuce was not very fresh. It was soft and wilted, and some completely inedible. The cilantro in the salsa bar was the same, so i didn't touch it. This is not typically of El Pollo Loco, so I'll give it a pass. I'll still be back! read more

The food is good but I'm tired of the constant miss communication. I always ask for salsa roja and they always give me something else, the last two times I made sure to say that I don't want the pico de Gallo that i was the red sauce and guess what's not in the bag. On their site it's literally called "salsa roja" and the pico de gallo is "house salsa". Maybe call the sauces something else if it's too hard to tell apart for workers? Also their speaker isn't working very well either half of the time I can't make out what they say and I have to repeat myself often. But their taco's al carbon are my favorite! 2 corn tortillas, chopped up chicken, cilantro and onion with avocado salsa on the side is my go to. Tonight I got the churros as well and they were decently good. If you ever come here, you have to try their avocado salsa. It has so much flavor and it's perfect on top of tacos. I need the recipe. Got Chicken Tortilla soup from the Stockdale Hwy location. Not only was I not given tortilla strips for my soup but I received it ice cold.

I went to this location at 9:05am (they open at 9am). I ordered a double chicken bowl. The lady at the drive through says "be careful. The box is hot. I had to go to the back to get the beans and rice". Okay cool. I get home and open the box ...it's all types of soupy with bean juice and the whole bowl was filled to the top with rice. There was maybe 5 pieces of chicken shreds, no avocado. I asked for no pico...pico sitting right on the top... no cheese, and the sour cream didn't look fresh. My flour tortillas were wet in some spots and half of it was hard as if they warmed it up (definitely not fresh). When i called to let them know and request a new bowl or my money back the lady goes "remember I told you i had to go to the back to get the beans? I couldnt get all of the juice out. And i dont remember you asking for no pico" I politely told her "this is straight soup...all i can taste is bean juice. It's literally coming out of the bowl. And you repeated "no pico" to me twice" I end up going later that same day to get my reimbursement bowl and i give it to my bf for lunch the next day. He calls and tells me it's all beans and no chicken .... Y'all need to get it together !!!! There's no reason you can't put a freakin chicken bowl together! read more

I will start by saying my pollo bowl was wonderful. No complaints there, but what did bother me is what was going on with the employees. I'm assuming she was the manager. She was double counting the register saying it was short. Told an employee that she's not going to let her drawer be short for anyone. He looked like he was on break, lunch or just ordered food to go. She got so upset that the employee put his food on the counter and said he would be back with money. It just looked so ugly to make it visible for the guest to see all this. There just seemed to be a lot of negativity out of management making employees feel bad. This has to be the worst pollo Loco establishment ever... very poorly managed.. the restaurant inside was very hot... 85% of the tables were dirty.. floors looked like if the haven't been swept since opening up.. on one trash can I counted 25 dirty trays on top of each other... then to top it all off the chicken was dry and over cooked ... and they didn't even have salsa like promoted.. me and my wife were literally the only ones in the lobby and I could eat fast enough to leave this dirty place... you find better taken care of restroom in the hood at a public restroom.... My husband was wanting this chicken for whatever reason for weeks now. So, tonight we went by. He got a 2 piece combo with breast and wing. 2 sides, pinto beans with rice. (the rice can be improved, tasted very reheated, beans very good, he said) You also get a choice of flour or corn tortilla. Very fresh and useful to scoop up the sides and sauces. Lots of side sauces inside to choose from. If you can come in, do not drive thru. I feel you just get more for your money to go in and choose from peppers, spicy guac (yum!) extra cilantro, etc. Even the washroom is clean. Service was fantastic, keep it up Jeff and Alejandro! They even asked how our meal was when leaving, brought our meal to our table before that, very personable and helpful. Patient for first-timers. It was hard to choose - they have healthy salads, bowls and calorie wise dishes. I had the burrito chicken meal. It was good but of course their version, not authentic. It just came with rice. The star of the dish of course was the chicken, no doubt chopped from the chicken visible on the huge grill. I liked my chicken better than my husband's but he loved it and gobbled it all up. I found the breast a bit dry but I tend to choose the dark meat cuts. The drive thru for some reason is always busy so if you are in a rush and want grilled chicken and not fried, this is a great option. Visit 2 - TIP - Have a winter cold? GET the chicken soup. It is what you want to eat when you are sick! Real chicken, good stock, some veg, decent seasoning and the portion size was great. Hubby also got a salad tonight and enchiladas Loved it all.. He is officially addicted to this place! VISIT 3 - WOW! I just ate the spicy chipotle burrito as I had asked for the spiciest thing on the menu. Blown away. Love how the burrito was grilled to perfection, was made fresh and kept warm in the foil til I got home. Perfect amount of everything on it, not too much cheese and I liked the portion size.
