I've been eating El Pollo loco since I was a kid and I think it's one of the tastier/healthier fast food spots in the country. I love their chicken, it tastes a lot like real Mexican style grilled chicken. Their chicken tortilla soup is very flavorful and light, they give you cilantro, lime, tortilla strips, and cojito cheese to toss in it too. I don't go for their burrito's, quesadillas, nachos, or whatever other fancy thing's they added. I go for the basics, their chicken. I think their salsa selection accompanies their food very well, I toss some in the soup for extra flavor. -I don't like their new steak items, they are way over priced and honestly don't taste very special. -Their dollar menu is pretty nice, you can get a lot of different items. This location has been here a long time. We come here a couple of times a year when we want to eat something healthier than fried chicken, and we're in the area. Last weekend we ordered a family meal for the 7 of us. It was the 16 piece (legs & thighs) with 3 Large sides. The chicken with the flour tortillas was yummy as always. The coleslaw was good, but the corn cobettes were just okay. Everybody liked the bbq black beans though. The service has always been good and quick. Back in my Cal-State Bako days I used to visit this El Pollo Loco on a weekly basis. Lately? Not so much. I can honestly say that the quality that has been offered up by El Pollo Loco lately has been very disappointing. That includes most of the locations in Bakersfield. I used to be able to rely on a good ole double chicken Pollo bowl or a tortilla roll when I'm in a hurry but lately the portions have diminished and the flavor isn't what it used to be. I still am a Big fan of the avocado salsa though. One thing that has stayed consistent with El Pollo Loco is that the service is pretty good and the folks working are helpful. On my most recent visit I ordered a 10 piece chicken meal and the chicken was super dry. Rice had no flavor. Overall very disappointing. This location is always forgetting something that I ordered. Not the first time either. The first time it was my tortillas from a family meal. I didn't want to drive back besides you didn't answer the phone so I left feedback online. I get offered a churro! Really in exchange for tortillas? Not everyone likes churros! This time it's my salad from a meal that I didn't receive. I drove round trip 6 miles to get my salad this time because I didn't want to be offered another churro as a pay off. Get it together! I was so disappointed that I will not use this location any longer. The manager was chastising and belittling the employee who was running the cash register in front of all who were inside the restaurant and in a very long line. He was the only cashier and he was doing his best. For goodness sake, open another register instead of yell and shout at him. They were out of Avocados, but when asked for an extra dressing was told it would be $0.44 extra......really? They didn't reduce the price because they were out of avocados. I only come in every now and then. Last time I was in they were running a special where you donate a dollar to No Kid Hungry and they give you two churros; it's a decent deal when they honor it. I went in today to redeem what I thought was my coupon and they told me that I only had a flyer. This struck me as odd because this is exactly what they had given me when I gave them my money a few weeks ago. I explained to the manager that I had made the "donation" in their location and no one had instructed me to keep any code to redeem my two churros. She refused to honor what she was calling the flyer. It's only a dollar, but it is the principle that I was cheated of what had been promised. I won't be back to this location for another year or two thanks to this experience. And I am left thinking that if they cannot be trusted to honor their own offers, then why should I ever spend my money here? Been going here for awhile, several years. Gave the delivery a try. Didn't get the drinks and call in, Estevan says it's not their fault, it's grub hub, but we ordered our food through Pollo Loco. The person who answered said they didn't deliver. Then I'm told I'll get 25% off, but I'll have to go in store to get it. Didn't get drinks I paid for, he didn't want my full name, they really need to have a manager on shift that can take care of issues, the ones answering phones have no clue they deliver, or what to do when a mistake is made. This is one of Bakersfield's healthiest fast food options. My favorite is the skinless chicken breast combo. It comes with a skinless chicken breast (duh), a side salad, and a side of steamed vegetables. On the old weight watchers program the whole meal was only 5 points! I like to take the salad (which comes in a decent sized bowl) and put half of it on the plate with the chicken. Then on both salads I pile on the pico de gallo sauce, which is mostly tomatoes and is not very spicy, onions, and cilantro. I then cover it with a layer of their spicy avocado salsa and squeeze on some fresh limes. I put avocado salsa on the veggies, too. Yummy, skinny, and very filling. I've had their pollo bowls, and salads and they are not bad. On occasion, I'll order the brc (bean, rice, cheese?) burrito and a chicken leg and put the meat from the leg in their burrito - comes out at about $2.50 for the whole thing, I love, love, love their chicken tortilla soup - very good for fast food. In fact, no qualifiers needed, it is my favorite chicken tortilla soup in town - nice and spicy with a good balance of flavors. And it's not very expensive, either! I don't really go for all those fancy burritos, let's be honest - they're kind of expensive, but to each their own. I have eaten here often. Food is fresh, and staff is friendly. Some of them are actually very professional. The bathroom is always clean, nice, and well-maintained. But on the other hand, if you eat here, MAKE SURE you double-check your food. They tend to make mistakes often... You order one thing, and they may give you another. Or for example, if you order a side order of cut up chicken breast which comes in a small container, make sure you open the small container and check inside. They may have forgotten to put anything in it. And I don't think they do these things on purpose. We do have to understand that they are young folks, perhaps at their very first job, and handling very high volumes of requests and demands... I said thank you literally three times and not once did I get an "Ur welcome or "thanks have a nice night" like most all food workers do (at least I did when I worked at restaurants) ‍ I was a little confused because when I got my food she didn't say anything either like "that's everything thanks" she literally said not one word other than the $$ total so I wasn't even sure if I should drive away or not. I went in with my kids, and ordered, and every thing went fine, until after I had paid, the cashier informed me there was no ice. I thought maybe the soda was cold enough, but it wasn't.
