Tucked-Away Treasure Worth Finding! We stumbled across Mas Bella Restaurant & Lounge while exploring a little corner of a shopping mall near the Adventist medical building and Sequoia Sandwich Company -- it's hidden between the two, so keep your eyes peeled! Walking in, we were greeted with a spacious and clean dining area, with good vibes all around. The bar and dining sections are separate, which we liked. We came in on a weekday right when they opened, and the host/waiter (working solo!) was super friendly and very attentive -- props to him for holding it down! Chips and salsa hit the table right away -- the chips were warm and crisp, and the salsa was chunky, flavorful, and just the right kind of zesty. Off to a good start! We ordered the Mas Bella burrito with chicken and the build-your-own combo with two chicken tacos. Both came with rice and beans, and both were delicious. The tacos were simple -- just lettuce and cheese, no onion or cilantro -- but the tortillas were extra fresh and soft, and that made a big difference. The burrito was smothered in cheesy, saucy goodness -- absolutely tasty, though it only had one bell pepper and the tiniest sliver of onion (a bit shy on the veggies, but we forgive them because the flavor delivered!). My beans came toasted; my husband's did not. So, a tiny inconsistency, but the rice was flavorful, and overall, the food was freshly made and satisfying. We also ordered two Cadillac Margaritas, and let me tell you -- they did not skimp on the pour! Strong, smooth, and generous with the shot. Prices were very reasonable -- our total came out just over $67, which felt like a solid deal for everything we got. The service wasn't super fast, but definitely not slow either -- it's clear everything is made fresh, and we appreciated that. All in all, we were happy with our visit and would definitely come back. Mas Bella may be tucked away, but it's worth the find!

I really enjoyed my overall experience at this restaurant. The vibes and decor are upscale Mexican. The enchiladas suizas were delicious and the beans/rice had really good flavor as well. We received good service, but I felt like our server could've checked up on us a bit more. I definitely want to return to try different items on their menu.

Unfortunately, I will not be going back to this restaurant. I ordered three tacos and by the time they were on my table, they were cold, but the waitress was nice enough to warm them up in the microwave for me . and if you know biting into a cold Carnitas taco it's not pleasant. My husband ordered camarones a la diabla and the only thing good about that was the sauce not even the over steamed vegetables or rice, but I sure enjoyed my martini.

Great service and a nice date night. Margaritas were perfect, and Carnitas Tacos were delicious as ever!

Amazing food, great service, love the ambiance. We had the Arroz con Pollo and Enchiladas Suizas. Both dishes were very flavorful and more than enough. The margarita was strong, they don't skimp on the tequila! Chips and salsa also great, just wish the chips were a little warmer but otherwise we would come again and again!

Amazing service, as soon as we walked in everyone was extremely attentive. As well, they kept checking in through the meal.

This meal (grilled chicken fajitas) cost me $27 dollars and charged me $1.00 for the corn shells...the flavor was off ...not a good flavor and the salsa was flat unlike before. Boy, the last time I was there the service is like night and day. They even mixed up our meal with another customer....had not seen that done before....I believe that meal was passed around the room three times as we watched the same plate also leave our table to only pop up on someone else's table ...not good ...I had enough rice to feed our entire group there... not worth the money!

Came for happy hour/taco Tuesday so reviewed is based on that. Really enjoyed both the carnitas and el pastor tacos and the pickled onion added the perfect amount of acidity. Not sure I would pay full price for the tacos but at 2.50 I am in. Sat at the bar and a couple of observations: every drink that was prepared was batched ahead of time, big fan of trader joes's mezcal but was surprised to see it on their shelf. For happy hour the well drinks are 6 and at that price the margaritas were great. Their signature cocktails were more of a disappointment especially the caramel old fashioned which was way too sweet. Will come back for taco Tuesday

Wow what a surprise! This is a restaurant tucked away in some new development on Buena Vista. It is one of the most beautiful, polished restaurants. Every table has fresh flowers, each with a different vase. It is dark, cozy, and quiet. The waitress is the owner's sister, she was really helpful with the menu. I started off with the shrimp cocktail, really delicious. Then the taco and enchilada had amazing presentation. The pork taco had a tangy sauce, and enchiladas had a nice chile verde sauce. Very happy with the food! I will definitely bring my wife here for a date night.

Came here after my visit with urgent care, picked up my medicine, (diagnosed with the flu), it's going around right now. I knew I needed soup, but didn't want the can kind. I kept my distance when I went in and ordered pozole to go. The gentleman was very helpful and kind. It didn't take long at all. I have to say it was some of the best pozole I've had. I saved the broth for later.

We were passing through on our way home to Los Angeles. Found this place on yelp and had to try it. It's pretty small inside but very clean and well decorated. Bathroom was very clean. Food was prompt a delicious. We would definitely come back here.

This was my first time trying this restaurant on a Friday early afternoon. There is plenty of parking and you want to enter near the coffee bean. We stopped around 2ish pm so it was not busy but made for a perfect time to try it out and enjoy the food and drinks. They serve salsa and chips while you look over the menu and it was delicious. They have a beautiful bar area which we will stop at next time. Drinks were delicious and I tried the Mexican mule. They have seafood options, tacos, burritos, fajitas and a handful of vegetarian options which I appreciate. Staff was kind, patient and helpful with his suggestions. The food tasted fresh and delicious. I asked for a side of salsa to spice it up a bit and the red salsa was my fav. Rice and beans were flavorful and tasted fresh. Highly recommend the Yucca fries they are delicious plus the sauce they add on top. Happy hour I believe starts from 3-6pm Monday-Friday so we will have to go back.

We brought our girls for lunch because it was one of the girls birthday and food was good; however, you can tell it's still new and they are still trying to find their groove. I asked our server if they sing Happy Birthday and he said no... :-/ hmmmm I consider it a upscale Mexican restaurant versus other ones in town and it's weird that there's no Happy Birthday singing. When appetizers arrived our server didn't have a serving spoon for the aguachiles and he didn't bring us little plates. There was a total of 6 of us and we weren't ready to just dive in. We also got the shrimp empanadas and we also didn't get a serving spoon or little plates. Food was good, my chile relleno had all it's seeds inside so that was a little bit of a turn off for me because I don't like biting into a huge amount of seeds. The flavor was great, but the seeds was not for me. I thought it was just mine, but 2 other people had all the seeds inside their chile relleno too. The upside is that they have a good amount of tables and the restaurant seems very clean. I didn't get to use the restroom, but one of the people that came w us said they have a folding table in the restroom, so that seems like they have a pretty big restroom. The restaurant has cute decor and I would love to come back, but I don't know if I would come out for a birthday again.

Nobody plans to spend an evening in Bakersfield. You pass through it on the way to somewhere else…read more-- Mammoth, the Sequoias, the long flat grind up the 99 to Sacramento -- and if you stop at all, it's for gas or a bathroom or because your BMW's brakes have decided, somewhere around the Grapevine, that they'd rather not. Thank you, Weatherford BMW of Berkeley, for the near-death experience and, inadvertently, for one of the best nights out I've had in years. Stranded and waiting on repairs, we checked into The Padre, the only hotel in Bakersfield that feels like someone with a subscription to Dwell had a hand in it, and set out walking through a downtown that time has treated with more kindness than reputation suggests. There's a Woolworth's luncheonette still hanging on. There are old brick facades and wide sidewalks and the particular quiet of a Central Valley evening when the heat finally breaks. And then, on 18th Street, there is Tiki-Ko, and suddenly you are no longer in Bakersfield at all. You are, instead, inside someone's magnificent obsession. Tiki-Ko is a proper tiki bar -- not a tiki-themed cocktail lounge, not a place that bought some bamboo at a craft store and called it atmosphere, but a genuine, committed, floor-to-ceiling shrine to mid-century Polynesian fantasy. The carvings are real. The lighting is correct -- which is to say, barely there. The mugs are serious. There are pufferfish lamps and carved totems and the whole glorious taxonomy of tiki ephemera, accented here and there with a skate-culture edge that keeps it from feeling like a museum. It's reverent without being precious. The drinks are the real thing. Mai Tais built with actual orgeat. Zombies that earn the name. The bartenders make them with the kind of care and enthusiasm that tells you this isn't a gig -- it's a calling. They want you to be here. They want to talk about rum. They want you to try the Painkiller. In a city that most Angelenos regard as a punch line, somebody built a world-class cocktail bar and filled it with joy, and the regulars clearly know it. You will not plan a trip to Bakersfield. But if you find yourself there -- by mechanical failure, by accident, by the peculiar mercy of a bad brake job -- walk downtown. Find the tiki bar. Order a second round. Stay longer than you intended. Bakersfield has been underestimated, and Tiki-Ko is the proof.

Little hidden gems. Lighting is dark with bits color and neon popping through. The Bar Top curves around the bar- there are two booths that seat 5-6 and two short tables next to them- one seats 4- the other will comfortably seat two. There are a few bench style seating areas at the front with some short coffee tables. Think- skater tiki bar. The drinks were good- small menu if you're not sure what you want or are new to tiki. Both sides of the menu are the same menu. There are some nice mocktail options as well- you don't see that often. The service for me is mixed- it wasn't busy- steady but not busy- 1/4 full. I ordered two drinks to start for our table- (no cocktail servers here/not unusual for a small Tiki bar) I asked for a soda water- the bartender looked at me without a word- popped open a can of soda water and walked away. When he walked back by, I asked for a glass of ice- he said nothing and I got an eye-roll huff. I almost left. I don't think providing a glass with ice to pour your canned room temp soda water in, is too wacky an idea to be perturbed by the request. The female who took the order was friendly, smiled and was professional. We got a third cocktail- the Mai Tai. The grumpy bartender was friendlier this time. So, that helped. Maybe he felt overwhelmed and I threw off his groove by asking for water- then a glass... either way- being annoyed wasn't cool. The music.... Wasn't Tiki- it threw off the "Tiki Vibe" and made it feel typical small local bar that serves only Tiki drinks with some Tiki decor. It didn't take you to the land of Tiki- disappointed. Drinks were good.

We pulled into their valet parking just to drop off our things. As my fiancé parked the car, across the street in the over night garage, I was able to get a Single King room on a Monday night for $159. As we walked into our room #701, it was rather small, but fine since it was just the two of us. As I sat on the bed, it was actually hard! Yay!!!! I can't STAND soft beds and rather sleep on the floor! Haha no joke! Then my fiancé went into the restroom and suddenly he tapped on something glass sounding as I was turning ing on the tv..... I noticed there was a curtain by the bed, so I pulled it across and lo and behold by the bed was the shower and just a curtain the person from the outside of the shower could open/close as they please..... hee. We also had a mini fridge in the room along with a desk and chair. We had planned on staying one night, but got inside LA, and we figured we'd extend our stay. Upon doing so, we went downstairs the next day and asked if there was a deal if we could stay 3-4 days, and sure enough there was!!!! It's always great to see what happens once you ask! Hee. We got a larger room with a corner room location, I forgot the room number, but the restroom was larger and had a separate wall between the toilet and shower area, so if someone was in the shower, someone else could use the toilet and not be seen. This longer hotel room also had a chaise lounge chair and a better view of their downtown area, granted a lot of the places have closed. Overall, I honestly loved our stay here! It reminded me of a county version of The Fairmont SF! They constantly played new aged country music in the lobby! Then on Fridays and Saturdays there was a live band or singer in the bar area! I love how they had a community aspect to the hotel with some local live entertainment!!! My fiancé also loved watching The Knicks play on the bar tv with other people at the bar! Hee. Supporting local spots like this matters, especially when good food and good service come together the way they do here. My mom isn't usually a breakfast person, so she ordered the quesabirria tacos, and they did not disappoint! The tacos were cheesy, flavorful, and the consommé was rich and perfectly seasoned. I definitely stole a few dips for my flautas! My dad had the Huevos Rancheros, and they were also excellent. Everything tasted fresh, the portions were generous, and every plate looked just as good as it tasted. The service was friendly, the food came out hot, and you can tell they put a lot of care into every dish. The photos speak for themselves, everything was fresh, colorful, and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend!

The food was absolutely delicious, which is why I'm leaving this review, but unfortunately the service missed the mark during our most recent visit. We ordered our steak medium rare, but it came out well done. When our server took our order, our appetizers arrived quickly and then our entrees followed, but we had to remind him about the Starry soda that was ordered and never brought out initially. The biggest issue occurred when the Aguachile Ribeye was brought to our table. One of the plates was broken, causing food and sauce to spill all over me and the seat. While the server acknowledged something happened, there wasn't much concern shown about the spill on my shorts, and no replacement plate was offered. A simple apology and a little more attention to the situation would have gone a long way. Later, when we asked for a box for the leftover steak, it took quite a while and I ended up having to remind our server again. Overall, the food was fantastic and is the reason I continue to come back. The kitchen clearly knows what they're doing. However, the service could use some improvement, especially when it comes to attention to detail and handling issues when they arise. I'll still be back because I genuinely enjoy the food, but I hope the service experience improves on future visits.
