A Delicious Stop After the Farmer's Market! Stopped by Mas Bella after the farmer's market and had such a great meal! We started with three drinks: the Tullum Bloom, Strawberry Margarita, and Strawberry Lemon Drop. All three were delightfully fruity and refreshing, making it hard to pick a favorite! For food, we ordered the birria bao buns, shrimp bao bun, chile relleno, crispy beef taco with refried beans and rice, and camarones with refried beans and soft tortillas. The birria bao bun was my absolute favorite! The mini bao is packed with flavorful birria, and I absolutely loved the consommé they serve alongside it for dipping. It's such a fun combination, and that consommé takes the bao to another level. I also really enjoyed that they make their salsas in-house. They served both a verde and a roasted red salsa with the buns, and both were delicious. The chile relleno was another standout. That melted, cheesy goodness inside was everything you want from a chile relleno! The crispy beef taco was an unexpected winner. It was served with what seemed to be the same delicious birria-style beef, so it was instantly a favorite. The crispy shell paired perfectly with the tender, flavorful meat. The camarones with soft tortillas were also really good. The shrimp were well seasoned, and the soft tortillas made them perfect for building little tacos. read more

Well I got here at 11:00, their posted opening time, the staff and a few guests were waiting outside because the Opening person was nearly 15 minutes late with the keys. I had been bragging to my friends about how delicious the Bao Bun Tacos were and unfortunately they were out of the bao buns. I ordered the Tulum Bloom cocktail which I had in a prior visit but was disappointed. The cocktail was not as flavorful as the first time, it was presented in a plain glass with no floating flower. The first time I had it it was so beautiful in its presentation and delicious. Sadly not this time. The tacos were simple -- just lettuce and cheese, no onion or cilantro -- but the tortillas were extra fresh and soft, and that made a big difference. The burrito was smothered in cheesy, saucy goodness -- absolutely tasty, though it only had one bell pepper and the tiniest sliver of onion (a bit shy on the veggies, but we forgive them because the flavor delivered!). My beans came toasted; my husband's did not. So, a tiny inconsistency, but the rice was flavorful, and overall, the food was freshly made and satisfying. We also ordered two Cadillac Margaritas, and let me tell you -- they did not skimp on the pour! Strong, smooth, and generous with the shot. Prices were very reasonable -- our total came out just over $67, which felt like a solid deal for everything we got. The service wasn't super fast, but definitely not slow either -- it's clear everything is made fresh, and we appreciated that. All in all, we were happy with our visit and would definitely come back. Unfortunately, I will not be going back to this restaurant. I ordered three tacos and by the time they were on my table, they were cold, but the waitress was nice enough to warm them up in the microwave for me . and if you know biting into a cold Carnitas taco it's not pleasant. This meal (grilled chicken fajitas) cost me $27 dollars and charged me $1.00 for the corn shells...the flavor was off ...not a good flavor and the salsa was flat unlike before. Boy, the last time I was there the service is like night and day. Love the food. The bao tacos and street tacos are amazing! Many tasty delights and drinks. However it is very expensive and the true reason for the low rating is they are crazy slow and inconsistent. Tried to place a pick up order during normal hours and they rejected it, so I called them to place a manual order for pick-up (that is how good the food it) and they never answered the phone. I was there for my anniversary last year and we ended up being there for 2.5 hours, and barely had our food and too drinks. I am probably going to keep going, but I am mad about it. read more

Came for happy hour/taco Tuesday so reviewed is based on that. Really enjoyed both the carnitas and el pastor tacos and the pickled onion added the perfect amount of acidity. Not sure I would pay full price for the tacos but at 2.50 I am in. Sat at the bar and a couple of observations: every drink that was prepared was batched ahead of time, big fan of trader joes's mezcal but was surprised to see it on their shelf. For happy hour the well drinks are 6 and at that price the margaritas were great. Their signature cocktails were more of a disappointment especially the caramel old fashioned which was way too sweet. Came here after my visit with urgent care, picked up my medicine, (diagnosed with the flu), it's going around right now. I knew I needed soup, but didn't want the can kind. We brought our girls for lunch because it was one of the girls birthday and food was good; however, you can tell it's still new and they are still trying to find their groove. I asked our server if they sing Happy Birthday and he said no... :-/ hmmmm I consider it a upscale Mexican restaurant versus other ones in town and it's weird that there's no Happy Birthday singing. When appetizers arrived our server didn't have a serving spoon for the aguachiles and he didn't bring us little plates. There was a total of 6 of us and we weren't ready to just dive in. We also got the shrimp empanadas and we also didn't get a serving spoon or little plates. Food was good, my chile relleno had all it's seeds inside so that was a little bit of a turn off for me because I don't like biting into a huge amount of seeds. The flavor was great, but the seeds was not for me. I thought it was just mine, but 2 other people had all the seeds inside their chile relleno too. The upside is that they have a good amount of tables and the restaurant seems very clean. I didn't get to use the restroom, but one of the people that came w us said they have a folding table in the restroom, so that seems like they have a pretty big restroom. I'd say, we got the más bellamente (most beautifully) filling lunch! We stopped in for a "light" lunch that clearly got completely out of hand. Before walking in, the plan was to split some fajitas, guac and chips. Clearly, everyone had a different idea after looking at the menu, haha. Our Order: Complimentary Chips and Salsa - The salsa was la estrella (the star). It was light, yet full of fresh flavor. If they had a bottle for sale of it, I would have bought it to take home to Colorado for Breakfast Tacos. Chips and Guac - Oh, this guac was cremoso (creamy). It's the guac you wish you could perfect at home. Plus, I loved how we got a new kind of chip with this order! The chips were more airy and gave a light texture to the creamy dip. Quesa Birria Taco - The taco was una decepción (a let down) to me and bastante bueno (pretty good) to my husband. Now, I'll admit. I'm not a Birria Taco expert, so maybe I just don't love them. What I did like? The sauce and broth that came with! Muy bueno (very good) to me and my husband! Bao Bun Taco - The taco was diferente y ligeramente dulce (different and slightly sweet). Surprisingly, this taco was my brother's FAVORITE! Personally, I enjoyed the soft bun to the chewy texture of meat. It's a fun pair to have that you never seen done at Mexican restaurants. Chicken Fajitas & Steak Fajitas - The fajitas were un puñetazo en la cara (punch to the face) of flavor! The marinade on the meat and veggies was citrusy, tangy and delicious. These were my FAVORITE that I cannot wait to go back and order again. Chili Verde Burrito - The burrito was excelente (excellent). He loved the size of the burrito, and thought the Chili Verde inside the burrito was tender and mild in spice. It's the meal to order if you are really hungry! At least, that's what our waitress told us. Beyond the meal, the atmosphere of Mas Bella is really versatile vibe with a cute lil' bar to grab a drink or have an intimate date, a main room for families and friends to grab a meal and a sweet open patio that anyone would enjoy on a nice day! The service was nothing but attentive and kind to us, as well. In fact, our main waitress was full of personality. She made the meal quite enjoyable anytime she stopped by to refill water or take orders. We appreciated her! I'm not usually the type to leave reviews, but our Mother's Day breakfast experience here was honestly appalling. My family came expecting a nice meal and a pleasant holiday experience, but from the moment we arrived, things felt completely disorganized. We waited nearly 20 minutes just to be served water at our table, and the service overall made it seem like many of the staff had little experience or were unprepared for such a busy day. While I understand holidays can be hectic, the lack of organization was hard to ignore. The breakfast/lunch buffet was especially disappointing. Plates and utensils at the self-serve station were either unavailable or appeared poorly washed, which was concerning. There was also an omelet station with an open flame and setup suggesting it was operating, only for a server to casually tell us, "he didn't come in today." I understand every restaurant has off days, especially on holidays, but for the price we paid, the food and service were simply not worth it. This was my first time trying this restaurant on a Friday early afternoon. There is plenty of parking and you want to enter near the coffee bean. They serve salsa and chips while you look over the menu and it was delicious. They have seafood options, tacos, burritos, fajitas and a handful of vegetarian options which I appreciate. Staff was kind, patient and helpful with his suggestions. Thanks to Yelp for the suggestion because I had never heard of this place. It is in the cut so it's difficult to find as it's tucked behind the Sequoia Sandwich Shop. Another girls night, another great restaurant. The ambiance is nice and the decor is even cuter. The menu is simple and has a great selection. I had the best Tito's and Tonic I've had in a long time. The waitress and rest of the staff were friendly and always made sure to check on us and kept us happy. The food was pretty good, I wish they had a salad selection but the waitress did mention that they're working on one. All-in-all this is a definite must try restaurant. read more

if i could do a half star , id rate 3.5 but ill be generous and rate 4. my first impression of this place was great, me and my date enjoyed really delicious mexican food our first time coming here. i came here a second time with my family for mother's day, and it was hell. i don't blame the restaurant but i blame the waitress we had. i don't even understand how she got the job , i wouldn't be surprised if she's fired now. first of all, she was very clumsy as she brought the food. it spilled literally every single time on the table and on one of my relatives phone. and then when she brought the chips, she had hit my head with the bucket when she tried to set it down on the table. she was very inconsistent with bringing our dishes as she forgot a lot , but maybe she was just stressed. i did feel kinda bad because i just know she felt horrible , but man she ruined my experience and i don't wanna come again. we still tipped out of pity , but if i had wanted to be honest i would've not tipped at all. she literally spilled water , salsa, and sauce on our table and items. and she hit my head, and she did touch our cups at the rim which felt unhygienic. this place is very good and other than that waitress , id say this restaurant is enjoyable. maybe make sure you have a reliable waiter if you don't want ur time to be ruined.... read more

Tonight was our first.visit to Mas Bella, and it most definitely will be the first of many. We used to frequent this spot when it was Asada Grill, then the Asada restaurant. When we saw the space was bought and changing again, we were kinda bummed but remained open to trying whatever would take its place. Tonight we were not disappointed. This is a smaller size restaurant and we love what they've done with the place. It is very romantic and peaceful ambiance! In Bakersfield, we have very few restaurants for a romantic date night. It was dark and moody in all the right ways, low lighting but still able to see well, candles at each table, and flowers too. The bar area is also very cool and has a high end feel. We were seated right away when we walked in. The server we had was super professional, helpful, friendly, and prompt. The chips and salsa are complimentary which is beginning to be less and less common these days, so that was nice because we were starving but had to look over the menu. The salsa was delicious! The menu is small and I actually really love that. It's smart for business with a new restaurant, less overwhelming for customers, and gives them a chance to focus on foods that are more expertly crafted. I had high hopes because of that small menu! They delivered for sure. We both got bao bun tacos for an appetizer, which were delicious. My husband got steak fajitas, which also came with rice and beans. I got a combo plate with a ground beef taco and enchilada, rice, and beans. The fajitas had awesome flavor and came out steaming hot. My combo plate was good, i do wish it had a bit more flavor in the beef though. Thankfully I had salsa at the table and added that. Our drinks were refilled promptly and same with chips. We wish we had room for dessert because the 2 options available were very appealing, but we did not so maybe next time. The bar menu also looked awesome but I'm very pregnant, so that will have to wait for another visit! Friends, you have got to check this spot out. It is tucked away so I imagine they will have a harder time getting foot traffic without word of mouth recommendations and reviews, but we need this gem. Mas Bella is a Mexican restaurant located in the former Asada venue, tucked away off of Buena Vista behind the Sequoia Sandwich shop. The ambiance is beautifully dramatic with fresh flowers and specialized wall art. We went before 3 pm and took advantage of the lunch specials. The salsa that comes with the chips is muy caliente. The refried beans are made from Peruvian white beans and have a rich mild flavor. The chicken in the taco was flavorful and complemented the cheese enchilada. The meat was tender and so well seasoned. Generous portion as well. Whatever sauce or salsa they put on there was outstanding. Pollo Asado - 6/10. One of the more expensive things on the menu. Odd that that is the case seeing as it uses chicken. The breast was well cooked, very tender and well seasoned. The enchilada sauce was also very savory. We came here for dinner with some friends. It's a very pretty space, the restaurant itself is tucked away behind Sequoia in the Buena Vista area. We arrived around 6:30pm and were seated quickly. We started with a couple of drinks, guacamole, flautas and some bao buns. Everyone enjoyed their drinks, my favorite was the Carajillo espresso martini. The bao buns are novel but a bit pricey. The guacamole was a fair size and good flavor with the house made chips. All our entrees were very well seasoned and decent portions. I've popped into this restaurant a couple of times now, it's conveniently located in the southwest near several housing developments. The decor is so nice, real flowers adorn the tables, a cozy café kind of setting. The bar is painted dark like a speakeasy. The service is excellent, and that's why I'm giving a four star rating, the staff is so nice, personable and professional. They will take care of you and won't leave your drink empty. The food is really just so-so, the chips are a little on the greasy side and the rice could be a little more cooked. Where they really shine is with the Yucca Fries and cocktails. The watermelon margaritas are excellent, they will put Chamoy or Tajin on the rim which is a nice touch. There are also these bao bun tacos, they are seriously adorable. Mas Bella has lovely esthetics but I feel, sadly, that's all this place offers. The chips they give you while you wait are cold, oily, and unsalted. The salas was okay in flavor with more emphasis on the spice level. We ordered the sizzling fajitas and the enchilada taco plate. Both plates were hot and pretty bland. My fajitas were over salted, making up for the lack of salt on the chips. The taco and enchilada were just okay and mostly bland. We also order a strawberry sunset and a Mexican greyhound for drinks. The greyhound is served in an aptly themed cup and has a wonderful smoke flavor. With that said, it was more on the sweet side, almost too sweet and I also felt like it was lacking in alcohol. The same could be said for the strawberry sunset, overly sweet with little alcohol. As far as the wait staff goes, it's kind of awkward. Just about everyone came up to us to provide service and it made it hard to distinguish who was our server. We placed a drink order with one and then another came by and asked if we wanted anything. Shortly after that another waiter came by and asked if we were ready to order drinks. We informed them that we had already ordered drinks and they asked us with who and seemed to be slightly annoyed. This was kind of the theme the entire night. Also note they have different menus for lunch and dinner. So make sure if you're looking at their menu to decide ahead of time that you're picking for the meal time you'll be dining at.
