Small, family-run place. Pretty sure it's currently the only Peruvian restaurant in Sunset Park - weird, right ? There used to be a few, but apparently, the others closed. Only 1 person was manning the front counter / register, the phone, & serving as waitstaff. They were overwhelmed, & the service was laughably slow - it was dinner time on a Fri PM tho. That all being said - the food was off the hook. Best fried rice I've had outside of SE Asia. Incredible ceviche. Homemade purple yam drink that tastes like Jamaican sorrel. Awesome Peruvian soup. But menu - too many things to try! Only drawback - no beer / wine. Was hoping for a michelada. I'm sure theirs would be off the hook if they made them. read more

I was hesitant to order from this place, the reviews on here are SOOOOO mixed in opinion I almost decided not to. Google however, had pretty decent ratings so I decided to give them a shot. According to my Ubereats account, I ordered from one of their other locations in Bensonhurst, so if you can't get to Sunset there are other options. I was in the mood for something super simple, Pollo a la Brasa with some salad. So obv I wasn't trying to spend an arm and a leg. Compared to other Peruvian spots I was looking at, their pricing was another pro, $7.50 for 1/2 chicken and $3 for a small salad. Perfect for just me. The chicken itself was the best I've had in THIS vicinity. If you look at my reviews, I've tried two other spots that missed the mark. It was seasoned well, didn't have to add anything to it. The breast was a liiiiiiiiittle dry but I did pop it in the oven to warm up so definitely not a dealbreaker. The salad was also very refreshing and they sent a simple but tasty vinaigrette with it. The reason this review is 3 stars instead of 4 is because they had the audacity to send me ONE and ONLY ONE measly container of Aji Verde that literally wasn't even halfway full. And the crazy thing is I saw other reviews mention that exact same thing and figured they'd fix those mistakes by now. I was obviously wrong. The cup they sent the vinaigrette in was bigger than what they sent for a HALF CHICKEN. So it's not like they don't have the proper containers, they just clearly don't care to change it. I was so mad, especially because the sauce was good! I had to sit there and ration it out so that I could make it last. I didn't think that was cool at all and tbh I probably won't order again, there's no way I'm paying extra for something that's supposed to go with the meal. read more

Pretty good. This restaurant replaced another Peruvian restaurant a while back. My friend got the quarter chicken with beans and rice ($10) and I got the beef stew with beans and rice ($10) to go, which comes with a small container of green sauce. Overall the dish tasted very homey and straightforward. I would come back and try the chicken instead as the beef was slightly dry. read more

Well, we can now add Peruvian food to the list of great, reasonably priced options in Sunset Park. We've been so excited to try these guys ever since they put up the sign advertising "Reuben's Famous Empanadas." The empanadas did not disappoint -- they're made with a soft, sweet bread that reminds me almost more of a bao bun than your usual more pie-like empanada crust. Also loved the papa rellena, chicken soup, and (omg) ceviche and can't wait to keep trying more. read more

Got takeout from here: a beef empanada, the half-chicken with rice and beans, and the chicken tips. The portion sizes were VERY large, more than enough for lunch the day after. The chicken was good, the beans were wonderful, but the highlight was the beef empanada. The beef empanada was FANTASTIC, it was perfectly seasoned, had raisons, and was just generally lovely. As a peruvian, I haven't had enough of their food to say it's good or to say it's authentic. Their pollo a la brasa was good with a good taste and their aji was good but they give me only one and it's a small amount, their salad had no dressing. I did have their Chicha Morada and i paid $4 for it.... hmmm I don't recommend, they don't make it well. It wasn't sweet and tasted watery and there was no canela flavor. Just ok. Ordered half chicken with yellow rice and beans. Asked for extra green sauce and they gave 3, which was nice. Rice looked like it would be flavorful but wasn't at all. White rice would've tasted the same. And was expecting a lot more flavor from the beans. I added a pinch of salt and it did the trick. Chicken was ok. Decently seasoned. Breast was dry (as to be expected with most rotisserie style chicken), but every other piece was pretty nice. Biggest disappointment was the green sauce. Although they gave me an adequate amount of it; it just didn't hit the mark flavor wise. Best way to describe it would be raw juiced jalepenos and cilantro. No salt or seasoning to it. Added nothing to the chicken besides a bit of spice. Have had way better. Cheaper than other spots in the area so might try again. I have a feeling the flavor of the sauce varies depending on who makes it. read more

(Because I'm not a Karen) But I always order from here, and I ordered on Uber eats, chicken with fries and salad, (just like option on Uber eats described) and of course I received chicken with rice and beans, although I already order a separate order of rice and beans? When I called to explain my order was wrong the man told me on his end it doesn't say that so he "assumed" I just wanted rice and beans, which why would you assume that instead of just calling if you were confused. Then he hung up on me mid sentence and when I called back said he hung up because he didn't hear a response. Please do better. LoL read more

This rating was mainly on the strength of the advertised, " Reuben Empanada " and the really nice gentleman that took my order . Now this empanada or rather collection of empanadas is impressive . They have sweet and savory options like Apple and the traditional beef and chicken . I went with the Chicken and Beef . The Empanadas are baked and quite large . 1 or 2 is a solid meal . From the texture on the outside to the quality of the filling was executed to perfection . 5/5 no complaints at all . I do wonder if these empanadas were made in house though . If they aren't then I would knock another star off this rating . Now I didn't only try the empanadas . I wanted some rice and beans so I ordered just that with their traditional rotisserie chicken . The rice was really nice and fluffy and seemed freshly made . The chicken as well was quite good although the piece was smallish compared to other spots nearby . The beans and the green sauce were both downright bad . The beans had a strong sweet flavor to it not sure what they even used but it definitely was some of the worse I've had . The green sauce was the worse I've ever had . The sauce had an extreme spiciness to it that just burned the back of the throat on each bite of the chicken . It wasn't a tolerable spicy and overwhelmed and shine that the excellently cooked chicken had to begin with. I'd close by saying this place is ok . Again , I loved the service . The gentleman that took my order is A+ . The food might need some tweaking , or maybe it was just an off day ? Either way the empanadas are super amazing and worth trying if you're in the area whether it be for a meal or even a cheap desert option . However if you're craving rice and beans , La Brasa afew blocks up is a way better and cheaper alternative . read more

Empanadas, Empanadas The empanadas are incredible. I love the beef empanadas, a tad of cumin and the raisins pair with the slightly sweet dove, which is not zoggy and is like a crust. The shrimp empanadas... well, no words, amazing, and the cheese and spinach, wow, excellent and really tasty for those who do not eat beef. The chicken empanadas, are chicken empanadas and very well seasoned. All are moist. You do not need the sauces.
