My friend raved about the Arlington location. I was visiting family in Fairfax and she asked me to bring her some food back. Although she had never tried the Fairfax Blvd location, she wanted to take the risk. She placed the order online. When I arrived, the order was not ready. They also hadn't followed the notes she entered. She wanted her coleslaw in a separate container away from her hot food since Richmond is a few hours away. We are HUGE fans of the El Pollo Rico in Arlington so we were overjoyed when this outpost located near us. Out of of all the outstanding Peruvian chicken spots in the DMV, El Pollo RICO is the GOAT. Even Anthony Bourdain gave it a thumbs out, back in the early 2000s. Ordering is quick and easy and there is plenty of seating inside this restaurant. I recently placed an online catering order for a big event and found the servings to be plentiful, affordable, and delicious. The order was not ready at all when I came into the restaurant but they were able to cut and box up chicken straight off the rotisserie with the quickness. I'm pretty sure they even through some extra french fries in my bag for the hassle which was much appreciated. Love this place. I originally loved the location in Virginia Square, but we were in the greater Fairfax area and had to stop by at this one. Plenty of parking - you can't miss it. Friendly staff, bright lights and delicious food. We ordered the quarter dark chicken, which comes with two sides. I had yuca and cole slaw. We had both the yellow and the green sauce. Decided to try this location tonight since I'm in Fairfax now, the taste is just the same as Arlington. However, the service was not as friendly and welcoming as the Arlington location. At the other location, you're warmly greeted with a smile and this one was very silent and curt. Other than that, they have ample parking and a decent amount of indoor seating. I got 90 Mbit down and ~15 Mbit up. *The interior is new, baby! *If you live in Fairfax City you don't have to drive 35 minutes to Arlington! What I hope they improve (compared to Arlington): *Chicken skin flavor is not as flavorful or crispy as the Arlington location... yet! Today is their first day so I hope it is just a temporary hiccup. The inside parts of the chicken need more seasoning/salt. Walked into the restaurant. Waited 2-3 mins before being told we are waiting on chicken..it'll be 10 mins. 20 mins later the chicken was finally ready. If you've been to the Arlington location, you know Pollo Rico's chicken is the best tasting in the area but they haven't gotten it quite right in Fairfax. Hoping this is a hiccup from the stress of opening a new spot. Chicken flavor and seasoning is not as tasty as the Arlington location. I was also disappointed (and surprised) in their yellow sauce. Food is great. Yellow sauce isn't exactly the same as the original location (Arlington). But the one thing that upsets me the MOST is when you order over the phone, they never actually prep your food UNTIL you arrive. My brother ordered in person and got his food before me & by the time I told them I'm here for pick up, they had already given the last chicken to my brother & told me that I have to wait 25 minutes. My question is: what's the point of ordering ahead of time, if they never prep it before? I had called 15 minutes in advance!! Another thing that pissed me off, is they are stingy with there sauces. My family and I LOVE sauce with our food, & he made a comment in Spanish talking shit about how much sauce we were getting. He assume I don't speak Spanish, since I always speak in English. It was 10 minutes before they closed too... and I still had to paid extra per sauce (which is no problem at all) But why get upset about how much sauce I want, if they are about to close, and I'm still paying for it. I was super excited about their newest location because it is much closer to home than the original Arlington restaurant, which has the best Peruvian chicken in the area, in my opinion. Well, to get to the point, they probably need a more experienced pit-master to roast their chicken. The chicken I got had drumsticks that were dried and tough on the outside and the white meat was drying out. The restaurant opened at 11AM and I picked up the chicken at 12:15AM. So supposedly the chicken was pretty freshly roasted. But it didn't taste fresh and juicy. The slow customer traffic probably doesn't help move the goods and chickens may be sitting longer than they should. read more

As of right now, I've had their chicken, fries, rice, and fried plantains and they were all amazing. But the one bad thing about this place is that there are times where I've called ahead or made an online order and the food isn't ready for me when I get there. They recently opened this store just a long block from us in western Fairfax city. We ordered a whole chicken from there last night. Not impressed. First, they do not have a price for a chicken without any sides -- you have to pay for the sides whether you want them or not (so we got some rice, will use it later). Second, the chicken was nearly indistinguishable from a rotisserie chicken from Giant. I could tell when my husband came in the door with it that it didn't smell anything like the product from Wild Chicken. (They've closed their store nearest us.) It was nicely cooked, but there was very little "Peruvian" seasoning. What there was seemed like black pepper and a bit of a spice or two, maybe cumin. No garlic flavor or aroma. Sauce was fine -- the usual aioli. By the way, Preuvian chicken leftovers (with the yellow sauce instead of all mayo) make great chicken salad. Leave the skin on! So, we'll try "Little Peru" up the road, and if theirs isn't better, we'll make the longer trip to the Wild Chicken on Pickett Road. read more
