This restaurant just continues to take all of my money, lol! Anytime my husband asks me where I want to eat for dinner, It's always here. Anytime he is working from home and asks what I would like for lunch, it is always here! I never eat inside I always go through the drive-through and get it to go. In my opinion, they have the best tasting chicken in town. I only come for the chicken lately due to cutting out carbs, but their chicken papas is phenomenal! When I do decide to have a cheat day where I can eat carbs, I will definitely be ordering one in addition to my chicken. The chicken quesadillas are another favorite. You have to love a lunch special that is a full meal with a drink for $8. I had the two piece pollo carbon meal that comes with rice, beans, tortillas and all of the trimmings. The food was good but I would not say amazing. The price, flavor and relative value was spot on. I was a little frustrated as I asked for dark meat but when I got home it was white meat. Wasn't sure what to expect but I'll be back. Went in with low expectations and left satisfied. I ordered the chicken flautas. 4 crispy flautas full of very tender shredded chicken. Topped with crema , lettuce, tomatoes, white cheese (cotija?) and avocado. Served with rice and flavorful refried beans, a lime and green creamy salsa which was spicy. Hubs got the beef taquitos. There were 5 double corn street taquitos with beef, onion and cilantro. We shared the plates of food and it was good. There was only one large family when we're eating but 3 more came in. Our 22 year old daughter brought over a plate of Taquitos Pastor because she knew we would like. Both of us being previous restaurant owner/operators we appreciate good, consistent food. I managed a Spanish restaurant so feel I have enough Latin American food knowledge to share this review. We are tough, picky customers. I will go here till I die. We like to take pics of our food to send to our daughter to make her jealous that we are eating at El Pollo Rico yet again. We've not tried any other food options there because we like the Pastor Taquitos so much so why change?! We also enjoy a friendly family game game of which plate presentation will we receive this time, the circle or all lined up in a row? We don't care because both are loaded with delicious product. We have shared our enthusiasm with family and friends only to receive glowing reviews in return. I am also including a recent photo of a local 'Taco' restaurants Taco Supreme. Major fail. You tell me which you prefer?! El Pollo Rico is simply excellent. We must try another item to see if it's just as good. We got the wrong food, the staff was rude and acted as if we inconvenienced them and then when we got our food it was so bad, the chicken smelled and tasted like it had gone bad. Pet peeve #6,386. When a restaurant is open until 9 and you walk in at 8:15 and everyone is cleaning and you get knocked over by the overpowering smell of fabulouso cleanser. The salsa bar is closed, which I guess is fine because there's also no more chips. Thinking ahead (because this has happened before) We ask if they could NOT dump the tea out until we leave. Her response "we're almost closed". Which we comment "it's 8:15. You're open until 9" She reluctantly agrees. Apparently the last customers are the least important customers. . As you can see from the photo they even turned out all the menu board lights too. Then we attempt to leave at 8:45 and the front door is dead bolted closed. The grilled chicken is outstanding as is the salsas and refried and charro beans. Despite asking for no tortillas (I can't have them with my current diet), they gave me some anyway and I couldn't resist opening them up. They were homemade corn tortillas and they looked amazing. My girlfriend and I liked it so much we've been there two days in a row, and we're picking some up tomorrow to take to her parents for dinner. I highly recommend it. This place reminds me of the pollo asado I can get in Laredo when visiting family. Had the half chicken with fries and charro beans, and my wife had a milanesa torta. The chicken was delicious, good flavor and very juicy. The torta was huge, my wife could only eat half of it. I tried the other half, and found that it was pretty bland. Luckily, they have a decent salsa bar so I was able to dress it up with some spicy red sauce. All in all I will definitely go back. There's a papa asada (baked potato stuffed with carne asada) on the menu calling my name, and the Nachos Rico's look like something I could take down with a couple of cold cervesas... If you are a fan of the pollo asado restaurants you can find in the valley or closer to the border, this place deserves a try. read more

the food at El Pollo Rico is actually pretty tasty I had the half chicken which I completely devoured and I tried all of the sauces from their salsa bar which were all very tasty as well. for my sides I had the rice and beans only because a lack of any other sides to choose from and this is where my griping comes in lol. if you're going to give the customer a choice of sides you shouldn't limit that sides to beans, refried beans, and rice. of course you could choose french fries but well for the sake of not mismatching the two weirdest f****** sides ever we'll just say that fries don't really count as a side at a Mexican restaurant alongside beans beans and rice. of course on the menu there are more options than what I listed but when ordering you're told those are actually extras not sides weird but looking closely at the menu It does say sides and extras but they shouldn't list the two under the same category if they don't want people assuming that the extras can be sides. with that said once again I would like to establish that the food is actually quite tasty and that is literally the only reason I gave this place 3 stars Because it most certainly wasn't the prices which are kind of above average for what you would pay for the same plate of food elsewhere and it most certainly wasn't the staff who literally asked us if our food was going to be dine-in or take-out when there was nowhere to sit down literally... The charro beans were blah because they needed to be seasoned, seasoning beans after they are cooked never works. The rice was dry and had no flavor to it. I spit out more than I ate. Pastor taco was a street taco with onions and cilantro as expected. Too bad there was more fat than meat. I feel like I wasted my time and money. I went to get my car washed at the place next door. While waiting, we figured I would go over and get some food. The place was dead. There was one family in front of us who had just placed their order and received it fairly quickly. I place my order and then go to get drinks. I sit down and wait for my food to come out. It was almost 20 minutes when I go up to the register. Martha asks if she can help me. I explain I am waiting for my food. She tells me she will bring it out to me. I can hear another girl in the back say in Spanish that she is tired. She is tired? Maybe you were working harder, instead of being lazy and making people wait 20 minutes for food, you would not be so lazy. I go to sit back down and finally our food was brought out. Our order was not complicated at all. I ordered a Torta with Pastor and a quesadilla. If I was giving ratings just on food, I would have given this place at least 4 stars. The service is what killed it for me. I saw a few employees just standing around doing pretty much nothing. The Torta was pretty good. The quesadilla had great flavor and was fairly large. I would go back for the food, but would not to go back to this place at all because of the service. read more
