Went in for a 2 piece combo. The order taking went okay, but the cashier had to get my drink because the drink dispenser in the lobby had no ice, and the product was warm. Also it was a little dark inside. Got my order (one box), but the girl just handed it out, no bag. How was I supposed to carry it?? Everyone else who ordered one box was given theirs in a bag. I was just walking by only wanted to look at the menu because I hadn't seen this restaurant before. read the menu started to walk back home, but the owner/manager ran after me and asked if there was anything that I needed or if there was a problem.. he had a big smile shorts on and knee-high rain boots!. I told him I just wanted to see the menu, but he insisted that I come back in the store and gave me a huge sample box of tenders, corn nuggets, french fries fries, and biscuits! I planned on eating it when I got home, but I had another 2 mile walk in front of me so by the time I made it home all of it was gone! Chicken tenders were fine, fried catfish was OK - it needed more breading and was over-salted. Corn and mashed potatoes and gravy were ok - up to fast food standards. Not great, but this is fast food. Biscuits were hockey pucks. Not good. read more

I ordered the 3 fillet dinner, the wonderful person who took my order asked me about sides, I got mac & cheese, slaw, perfect and fresh !! I was offered roll or hush puppies, I got hush puppies, freshly cooked like the fish, offfered choice of sauces, I got tartar sauce(2) perfect and fresh !!! The wait was not bad at all. The food here is pretty good and if it isn't then don't be afraid to say so! On several occasions I have gone and the hotness/freshness wasn't there but I always brought this to their attention and they happily attended to it. On both trips I was greeted as I entered the door and welcomed with a smile. My order was taken quickly, and handed over the counter fast. The chicken is lightly breaded, and fried just right,not over or under cooked and mouthwatering, juicy and delicious ! The biscuts were cooked just right, flaky, buttery and melt in your mouth good. The only sides we tried were the mashed potatos and corn fritters and both were great. The dining area and restrooms were both sparkling clean. Bottom line I have paid top dollar for fried chicken in fancier sit down and order restaraunts that havn't compared to this fantastic fast food joint !!! Relatively new to New Braunfels and looking for a good chicken place. Chicken Express' chicken is good, but their service and policies are very poor. We have been here twice - first time the wait was well beyond 20 minutes, even though it was early afternoon and only 3 or 4 cars in line. Tried it again today (Sunday) and ordered an 8 piece mixed family order. They asked what side we wanted and I told them. At the pickup window they charged us $21.69 plus tax, but we noticed on the sign that the 8 piece mixed came with 2 sides for only $19.99. I asked about this and the young lady smiled and said "Sorry, but that is the special and you have to ask for it or we do not give it to you." Wow! This is the second time in a row that I have had a bad experience at this location. Went there again on September 3, 2018 .... I was told a side of mac & cheese would take 15 minutes; fish would take 8 minutes; and the spicy chicken strips would take 6 - 7 minutes. We ordered fish and the regular chicken strips. When the order was handed to us, I asked about tartar sauce for the fish. They informed me then they were out of tartar sauce. It seems to me the management is not on top of things. They should have everything ready to go in a few minutes and they should not be running out of anything. My only negative observations are that the corn on the cob was tasteless and the restaurant didn't provide moist towellets for wiping the chicken grease from your hands. After I finished placing my order the voice came back trough the squawk box - "Sorry sir, we are out of cooked chicken right now. It will be at least a 15 minute wait." I drove away. What fast food fried chicken restaurant on the face of this earth is OUT of cooked chicken available to serve at 11:55AM on any day??????????? Poor, poor, poor. I really love coming to chicken express, but this time it wasn't a very lovely experience. First, they told me I had to wait 17 minutes for chicken, we waited, then they gave us our food and we drove away. I got home and realized they forgot to give us our sides. Like that 17 minutes wasn't enough time for them to get our order correct? I call them, and the manager doesn't try to help me. So we drive back and ask for a refund, and our sides, and she tells us she can't help us. She didn't try to make it right. Then we got our order back again and it was still missing things. They don't have good customer service. When things go wrong they shouldn't be rude and unhelpful. Managers are supposed to treat their customers well, and help solve problems. We didn't get a discount, anything free, and we payed for lots of gas trying to get our dinner right. Y'all should hire friendly, helpful people, because I don't want to stop going to this location. read more

Got the hankering for some good fried chicken. This place is as good as it gets. Its is always fresh. They have tenders that are out of this world. You can get 3 tenders for $3.99 with a side. And their tea is my favorite. They do tend to go a little heavy on the ice. So if you like more tea than ice make sure to tell them to go easy. One of my favorite places. read more

But the service stands out above competitors not to name names ( Holy chicken) OR ( Sailors Chicken) if you catch my drift. When the line is getting long they don't tell you to pull out of the way or drive around and they will bring it to you. They take the orders that are done to the cars behind you so they can leave . I have seen them send out 4 people at the same time to car hop the orders so every customer is happy and gets out quick. Now that is some D@^n good service. At every other Chicken Express that I have visited, the total (including tax) is always about $45.00 which included a gallon of tea.
