Food gets 4 stars but had to deduct 1 point for service. This place is your average chicken spot. Relatively clean with a quick turnaround time for food to be ready. You'll find many patrons coming in and out at any given time. My major beef with them is lack of disclosure when something costs extra and this time around they did not give me the parts of the chicken I originally requested. Take-out is an extra charge and when I asked what drinks come with the takeout combo, they listed a plethora of drinks and then I chose the tamarindo drink. I thought the price was a little high when I left, but I was in a rush and the guy seemed a little apprehensive about me viewing my food before leaving. I glanced at it, but I was on my lunch break, working from home so I couldn't tarry. I get home, look at my receipt and open the box and lo and behold, there was a 50 cent charge for the drink and 30 cent charge for takeout. It's kinda silly considering it's pretty much the same kinds of containers for dine-ins. Why not just factor that into the cost in general? Then for the drink, he most certainly should have told me it was extra up front. I'm not going to lose sleep over 80 cents but it the mere principle of the situation. I have a right to know any info that might influence or impact my purchasing decisions. Insult to injury, they gave me a mangey help of a wing, dried up small leg and a thick chicken breast. I specifically asked for dark meat. I don't like white meat, especially when grilled and not cut up/butterflied as this is the driest part of the chicken and I like it juicy. I put an order through grubhub. The manager or supervisor on duty calls me letting me know they are closing soon and that my order is ready(has been) for pick up. I'm aware because I am already in route there. I tell him I'm 5 minutes away, it's 6:55 I show up at the restaurant at 7:00....the guy at the register claims I already picked it up and that they showed him my name on their phone. I'm angry because you lied if you just threw it away tell me that and help get a refund don't fucking lie to me that I came to pick it up and someone show you my phone with my order. It seems as though this location of El Pollo Supremo gets mixed reviews on almost all the social media sites. However, I'm happy to say I've never had a bad experience here. Only once did I stray from the chicken and get something different (tacos, which came three to an order and were just fine). Chicken has always been tender, flavorful, and juicy. I like their congri rice. My favorite side, though, is their fried yuca. A small order is plenty and each time I've ordered it, it's been perfect: super crispy and golden on the outside, sinfully starchy and creamy on the inside. I don't find it to be terribly expensive as others have said. Generally, a single meal will run you about $6-8, but the portions are pretty filling (at least for me). You won't stand around here because of slow service, it's because everything is made to order. I'm usually pretty impatient, but this has always been worth the wait. read more

I am not a local around here but i came by and saw this store. its one of the few that opens late around this area. very nice area. i didnt order the chicken so i cant say much for that. i ordered the congri which is rice, bacon and sausage mixed together and the large chicken soup. the chicken soup is good, very tasty and smooth. it felt really spanish flavored with the corn mixed in. the congri was really dry, i felt like it didnt have enough flavor. the bathroom is awesome and the store is great. friendly people. i felt like this place wasnt cheap at all. 1 taco is $3?! i never had that before. a bit too high for me. around my area its $2 per taco and if i wanted to get cheap good taco ill go to brooklyn which is $1.50 per taco! read more

The lady on the phone admitted to getting my order wrong; however she was very rude. I explained to her that this mistake has happened before and this should have been on the house. Prices are a bit expensive when compared to other places in my opinion, but I know most people consider it fairly cheap. I've went there quite a few times. One time in particular I was disappointed. I was promised a certain amount of meat and there was no way that what I received matched the description. In addition to this, I waited a long time for my chicken (to be fair, I was warned beforehand). I was okay with waiting. That is, until I left (I was in a rush to meet up with my boyfriend). I meet up with my boyfriend and he cuts into the chicken and sure enough, it's pink. The small chicken piece I waited 34 minutes for was raw. I was upset, embarrassed, and I felt cheated. It's usually the same girl that takes my order when I get there, and she's nice. Can't complain about the service. I bump into her sometimes on Central and we always say hi and smile. However, as another yelper commented, there are charges they do not inform you about. The smallest things come with a charge, including take out. It sucks when I'm like thirty cents off and can't buy my man a meal just cause I'm getting charged extra for something most other places would give me 100 of for free. It's mainly just the principle of it. I don't get why I have to pay extra to take my food elsewhere. Especially that day. So I waited a long time, got charged extra, and then come to realize that they have me an underweight piece of raw chicken. I told my boyfriend not to eat it because I didn't want him to get sick. He swore up and down he has a strong stomach and that he'd be fine, but my man shouldn't have to make a freaking sacrifice to eat chicken. I'm genuinely upset by this. Well this is the second time that they short me on an item when I order to deliver. Then they have the audacity to tell you that they don't have a driver at the moment to pass by to pickup your missing item like if it was your mistake. OK, El Pollo Supremo has been my goto place for about 4 years now. THIS PLACE HAS AMAZING CHICKEN AT A FAIR PRICE! The chicken is fall off the bone, except for the breast which is always a bit tougher. There are a lot of sides to chose from and their boiled/fryed Yuca is ridiculous. This place is also great for any fellow Celiacs out there because everything they serve there is naturally gluten free (Except their fries, I'm not sure on those, avoiding fryed foods altogether is normal for most of us anyway). The prices are excellent. Half chicken, 2 sides and a drink for 8 dollars. O yah. Bathrooms are new and clean. I wish there were more around. I hate Jersey City, but I love El Polo Supremo. BTW, the reason I did not give 5 stars is because it's a chicken place for god sakes, and I will never give 5 stars, unless I actually orgasim at the table. Let's stop giving everything 5 stars fellow yelpers. Let's leave some room for the restaurants that truly deserve it. Update: I have been getting sick here. I got the PR rice which in the explanation doesnt say pork is inside, chicken was bland and flavorless, I get its grilled but its as if they themselves never heard of adobo or at least salt. You know the kind where you wonder how come it took this long to discover this place. But great things are to be had with great discoveries. Pollo Supremo is a mini chain of sorts. With a cpl of locations on Bergenline. Please see my review for the Union city location. The one on Bergenline has been the one I ve gone to for years. One of the perks of being raised in a Colombian household and having family in the area : ) This past week 9/9/12 was my first time trying this location out and it held up to its name and memory of the other locations that I've been too. Whole chickens marienated overnight with wonderful South American spices and cooked over an open grill afford with birds with a wonderful locked in juiciness and flavor that is simply remarkable. The birds are very similar to pollo a la brasa and are cooked over that open flame as they should be as many of this name sake usually are not and are just cooked in a rotating oven without an open flame. That flame produces a huge differences, believe me. It adds to the flavor, not only by locking in flavors and also by providing a light char that simply an open flame can provide. The meat is extremely flavorful and very juicy. The sides run the gamet from yellow mixed rice to fries, yucca fries, to sweet plantains. The plaintains are deep fried and extremely greasy. Much more greasy then I would like. Overall this is a great lunch option if you work or live in the area during the week or a nice spot to check out if you live in the general Bergen/Hudson county area during the weekend. read more
