I frequent here once a week. As usual, they have amazing food and the ambiance is wonderful, but this time I found out they now sell birria tacos! I know most of the servers there and everyone is always super friendly. So if you need some good Mexican food, come to El Portrillo in John's Creek!

3 1/2 stars. What to say about El Potrillo. In my opinion, the food is sometimes delicious and sometimes just ok, however, I have a lot of friends and family who deem this the best Mexican food around. They admittedly have outstanding fajitas and I like their refried beans, which is like, not something I usually enjoy. I think it's because they put their queso on top (as they do for almost every dish. The problem, though, is the service. It's terrifying. The takeout is equally tragic. I recommend triple-checking that they've given you the correct order before leaving. Overall, a place with a lot of potential, hopefully, they'll soon live up to it.

This is the "go to" Mexican spot in Roswell - you won't be disappointed. The cheese dip and guacamole is an absolute must!

It is an open concept eatery with indoor and outdoor eating space. We ordered with the cashier but you can also order online or at the kiosk in store. I ordered 1 chicken tinga street taco and 1 regular chicken street taco. My cousin ordered 3 steak street tacos. We added the sauces of our choice from the sauce bar. The tacos were so flavorful. I preferred the regular chicken taco than the chicken tinga. We went again 2 days later and we ordered the tostada, the gym burrito and a chicken torta. My cousin said the bread was a a little hard for his liking, but the flavor was well. My other cousin really enjoyed the gym burrito and i enjoyed the tostada. The tostada is quite messy so i probably wouldn't get that again. However, this place does not disappoint and was a great find. I would visit it again and again and again.

Not overly salty at all, honestly one of the juiciest tacos I've had. The meat was flavorful without being too salty, and the tacos were loaded. Beto Burrito: My husband had this one and said, "No complaints," so that's a win. Guac: Fresh and tasty, though it needed a little extra lime. The only downside was the sweet tea, it tasted off. Not in a pleasant way.

I can imagine it having a great vibe in the evening with all of their lighting. Plenty of parking and the menu was extensive. It's got typical Mexican options but then some Asian fusion options--such a unique menu but we loved it! Our server was so sweet and its kid friendly too with their own menu. We ordered the Drunken Flamed Fajitas ($36) which sounded like a dream on paper, including onions, peppers, rice, beans, pico and sour cream (only came with 3 tortillas). Everything looked good but it was sooooo spicy. We requested it without jalapeños and it was still spicy, all of it! The steak was extremely chewy and the chicken was burnt, dry and hard. The worst part about our experience was the extra charges. Without telling us, they charged an additional $6 for us and another $6 for my parents who asked for additional tortillas with their fajitas. For $36, you'd think this should come with more than 3 tortillas. The $6 "plate" included 3 tortillas and a very tiny amount of rice and beans and sour cream, which I didn't really want. When we asked the manager about the charge that was never communicated, she looked at the table and said "since you ate majority of the side plate, we need to charge you for it". $42 for Fajitas? I feel like the manager was arguing with us at the table, so unprofessional. We will not be back.

We tried the La Piñata and the Smokey Old Fashioned, which arrived in a dramatic smoke dome--such a fun presentation. For our first bites, we ordered the Tostadas: handmade corn tostadas served with both red and green avocado sauces. They were fresh, vibrant, and a perfect start to the meal. Our main courses were equally impressive. The Short Rib with Mole Amarillo came with pickled habanero onions, rice, and plantains--rich, tender, and beautifully balanced. We also enjoyed the Arrachera, an outside skirt steak served with sautéed onions, chimichurri, rustic potatoes, and a bouquet salad. Every dish was plated beautifully and tasted exceptional. Our server, Dalia, made the experience even better. She was warm, knowledgeable, and attentive--always appearing at just the right moment, whether to refill our water or guide us through the menu. Overall, it was another amazing visit. We go there often and have never been disappointed.

This is my second time here and both times have been so good. We came as a party of 3 and left so happy and full. I love Mexican food holy moly We got the queso and octopus shrimp ceviche as starters. The queso was 3 cheeses: American, cotija, and Oaxacan. They heated it up under a salamander so it was nice and crispy on top, while being gooey all throughout. Also came with a couple of nice salsas. The ceviche was not my favorite because I don't prefer raw(ish) octopus, but the squid ink sauce was very flavorful. For our mains the 3 of us shared the red snapper, tuetano with lamb, and the mixteco poblano pepper. Red snapper had a nice charred smoky flavor from being grilled. Was more meaty than flaky in texture. It was our second time getting the mixteco poblano pepper and it hits. Highly recommend eating with some of the salsa as well if you get queso. The duck carnitas in it wasn't particularly duck-y today, but still very good. Best dish is definitely the tuetano. The bone marrow is so incredibly flavorful with the blue corn tortillas. Add some of the pickled onions and it's hard to go wrong with that flavor combo of salt, fat, and acid. if you're going to order one thing, I'd order this and share with a friend and tbh it's enough to be filling. For dessert we got the volcan de chocolate (basically lava cake). The lava cake and coconut ice cream combo is fantastic. You get bits of coconut flakes as you eat! Fair warning it isn't the brownie texture you may be used to, it's a bit more cakey. Amazing service the whole night! Almost got our cars booted because we forgot to validate until 1.5 hours in but luckily we were fine. The staff let us know they have been booting cars though so be wary!
