Authentic and charming Mexican environment and excellent food. Congenial staff. Delicious fajitas with all the trimmings. One concern is the language problem. Staff member delivered my shrimp/chicken fajitas to my friend, who asked "Is this the chicken vegetable?" The waiter said "yes." Then the chicken vegetable was placed in front of me and I sent it back because it wasn't the chicken-shrimp fajitas I ordered. While waiting, I saw my friend spooning his food into a tortilla and I realized there was shrimp on it. His shellfish allergy causes a life threatening anaphylactic reaction. We had been given each other's entrees. The waiter's inability to understand my friend's question could have caused my friend to have a dangerous allergic reaction. Thank God I noticed. Nothing really different from Mexican at most places though, fair prices, ok chips but I've had better, the salsa was kind of bland but that's probably what many customers expect, the tamale was quite good while the chalupa was just ok. Honestly the only things that might be improved upon are 1) a little more space between the booths and their accompanying tables and 2) a little more flavor in the hottest salsa. El Pueblo does not need a good review from me. The restaurant is very, very busy, and the food is OK. Not special; typical Mexican with no table side service....not pretty....whatever. What upset me was the terrible, rude service from the front desk to paying the bill. From the moment we entered, with a reservation, we were treated abruptly. There was no happy smile, no welcome, no waiter at our disposal, no napkins, no water, no nothing. When we asked for a waiter, after about 15 minutes, he was not rude; he was mean. He and every server in restaurant were in a terrible rush. We ordered guacamole to start. It was a 2 inch dish and was literally slapped down in front of us. When we ordered our entrees, by stating the name of the selections, the mean waiter asked, "well what number is it: 2a, 3b, v, f ?, what do you want?" We had no idea and had to go back to the comprehensive menu to find the letter and number of the items we ordered. It took quite awhile to receive the OK food, which was slapped down hard in front of us, without a word, even though we are friendly, gracious people, and the running, doors slamming, loud phone ringing continued throughout our meal. The food here is okay. The Chile Relleno was a little depressing as usual. I love Chile Rellenos, but it's pretty much non existent. It's a super tiny chile, a little bit a meat, and a looooooots to cheese (which I love cheese, so that's okay at least). The rest of the food is decent. The service is good - I've never had a rude waiter/waitress and they are always pleasant. Service is always fairly quick too. Could use a bit more seasoning in general and a little less salt. I've been here 3-4 times since moving here, and if I'm really craving a relleno I'll go because there isn't any other option.
