This carniceria doesn't have a huge selection (or maybe it's because I stopped by on a Wednesday afternoon) but they did have al pastor, Score!

You can really tell the meat is high quality, which is honestly hard to find nowadays. They also sell their own seasoning, so I picked one up, and it was so good it made the meat even better. After trying this place, I don't think I'll be going back to buying carne asada from Northgate or the grocery store. The quality here is on another level. If you're looking for amazing carne asada or family get-together, I definitely recommend checking this place out!

I cut them into steaks for the grill for Sunday, salted and peppered, then left overnight in the fridge. I should have known something was up when I saw that the meat was slightly browning and had an off odor. After bringing to room temp and cooking, I noticed a majority of the 7lbs was in this condition. Why did nearly all of the meat have these small holes in it? It did not make for an appetizing meal, and I was very disappointed in the quality of the meat that was marked and listed for sale at $13.99/lb "Prime" Picanha. It's not the fact that I chose incorrectly, it's the fact that this meat was offered for sale in the first place to their customers. After coming here several times and spending hundreds of dollars, I will not be coming back here again.

I have…read moretried chimichurri sauces from Whole Foods and Trader Joe's but they aren't really very authentic. A friend recommended seeing what El Gaucho might have, so I visited the next day. The market is easy to spot with a big street sign out front. There are only two parking spots in front, one is a handicapped space. There's plenty of parking around the back though. When you walk in, you will see the main market with lots of items and brands I've never seen before. Slightly to the right is their deli counter with lots of meats, cheeses, and other miscellaneous items. To the right of the entrance is a dining area, and another counter where you can order sandwiches, empanadas, pizza, French fries, and drinks. I was laser focused on getting the chimichurri and leaving since I was short on time. It is in plastic bottles in plain view on on top of the deli counter. I purchased the regular variety, but they also have a spicy version. I could already tell this was going to be way better than the other two sauces I tried. I've had it on a steak, and on my breakfast scrambled eggs, and it's in a whole different league from the grocery versions I tried. It looks just like a restaurant chimichurri, oil based with lots of herbs and spices. I just had a nice filet mignon with chimichurri at a good Argentinan restaurant last week, and this chimichurri is about 90% as good. I moved it from the plastic bottle it comes in to a glass jar which will hopefully help preserve it longer, and store it in the refrigerator. I now have no reason to look elsewhere for chimichurri. My friend visits here periodically and says the sandwiches are excellent. I'll have to return again to try one, get more chimichurri, and explore the market and deli to see what other goodies they have.
