Been meaning to try the one in Costa Mesa but was nearby so tried this location instead. Just keep in mind the one here has a significantly smaller menu and does not do the $10 special everyone is talking about! Tried the Wagyu pastrami sandwich on recommendation from the worker there, and it definitely did not disappoint. The flavors were so well balanced and there was a lot of pastrami on it--it is not the type of pastrami that gets really oily and is cut into smaller strips; it's more of a deli meat pastrami type. Honestly, I couldn't tell it was anything special from being Wagyu, but everything else on the sandwich and the crunch rye bread was very much perfect. The balance of flavors was great. The only thing that might take you aback is the price--$22; it does come with a can of soda and chips, but it's not like the sandwich was incredibly huge. That being said, the sandwich alone made me pretty full! For a sandwich arranged at essentially a deli counter, it tasted much more gourmet than that. I picked up a couple Wagyu burger patties as well to cook another time, we'll see how those turn out. But overall, the food here definitely made me want to try the Costa Mesa location! This place confuses me. Carniceria is in their name but, tortas (sandwiches) seem to be what most of the reviews are about. In my younger days, I definitely would've gotten tortas from this place. Now that I am older, I try to order whats in their name. I've been here once to try their carne asada. They offer 2 kinds, a thinner sliced one, and a man sized thick one. Finally had the chance to try this place out after seeing videos of their burgers in the Costa Mesa location. The Brea location is a small cozy deli like spot selling expensive cuts of Wagyu and premium marinated meats. This location did not offer the burgers but had the entire sandwich menu. With the help of the friendly staff members I ordered: the Smoked and Wagyu Pastrami Sandwiches and the Hot and Cold Trio Wagucci Submarine. Each of these sandwiches were expertly constructed in front of you and served with a complementary side of chip and soda. You can tell that these people put their time and attention into making these. When I say these are some of the best sandwiches I ever had, I mean it whole heartedly. I highly recommend getting the Wagyu pastrami smoked or by itself on a marble rye bread over the Trio hot / cold subs on a roll. The place is not large, but it has lots of quality, high end meats and a great selection relative to the size. If you want wagyu tomahawks, sausages, and even high quality burgers, etc,, they have all that here. I can't remember when or why exactly it was on my list/radar, but I think it had to be because of the sandwiches. There was a week where I had to go back and forth from City of Industry and Anaheim, so I thought it was a perfect chance to check this place out. I ordered the smoked wagyu pastrami, which is served on a toasted marbled rye bread with swiss cheese, mayo, and some pepperoncini. Not cheap, but didn't feel super expensive when thinking about what you got. It also comes with chips and a drink. This was an excellent sandwich. Great flavors and textures. Nice crunch with each bite. I would just note, however, that the meat was sliced thin side and it was layered vs. the thicker cut Jewish style deli pastrami. Online ordering here, always been iffy, never seemed to work. Always had to call in the orders. Sunday afternoon, family wants to get take-out here. I call, a couple times, no one is picking up. I figure this is a bad sign. But family wants take-out from here. So I check to see if I can order online. Seems possible now, even if the online ordering menu and the website menu are not the same. Reluctantly I put in an order. Pay online. Go at the appointed time, one guy behind the counter. Busy, busy, busy. He's cooking, he's collecting payments, he's answering the phone. I'm thinking, this was a bad idea. I should have read the room a little better. Get the food after some delay. I am thinking, "bet he screwed up the order." Get the food home, everything is spot-on. Sandwiches, labeled so we know who gets what. Food was good, everybody happy. Whoever that guy was, cooking, collecting payments, answering the phone, that guy deserves a raise. Yesterday, we placed an order for pickup through Yelp, which forwarded the order to Grubhub. I received a confirmation that our order would be ready in about 15-20 minutes. When I arrived on time, the woman with glasses behind the counter by the front door informed me that they do not accept online orders. Confused, I asked why I was allowed to place an online order, and she became argumentative, stating that their iPads were not turned on. I suggested that they contact the online ordering platforms to have that feature disabled, but she insisted that I do it myself. When I reminded her that I am not the merchant, she dismissed me and offered no further assistance. We did receive a refund from Grubhub, but it was unfortunate that she seemed to take out her bad day on me. Overall the sandwiches were quite large, I think that two people with a medium appetite could share one. Not only because of the size, but the sandwich is a sodium overload. The bread they have is very good, the only downside is that the sandwich is pretty soggy after driving home, and I live about 10 minutes away. I think it's best enjoyed right away! Also, you can ask to get one of the salads instead of a bag of chips. I think it compliments the sandwich more. Been wanting to try out La Carniceria Wagyu's for a while now and finally stopped by to pick up a few sandwiches for lunch. Each sandwich order comes with a canned soda and bag of chips. Prime Steak Sandwich ($18): Sliced balsamic prime steak with mixed greens, pepperoni mayo, provolone + swiss cheese, caramelized onions, and tomatoes on dutch crunch bread. Delicious but definitely must eat fairly quickly as the bread will get soggy and fall apart easily. Wagyu Pastrami Panini ($22): Wagyu pastrami with swiss cheese, and whole grain mayo on marble rye bread. A simple sandwich with a mouthful of flavor. The marble rye had too much of a herby taste for my preference but the meat was great. The ordering process was a bit confusing as a customer who was waiting let us know she ordered toward the back of the store but when we weren't helped yet, another customer told us they ordered by the front. We were ultimately helped by the meat counter by the owner himself, David. While waiting for our sandwiches, we overhead David mention to another customer about a sale they were having on wagyu tomahawk's (BMS 9) for $100 each instead of per pound. Intrigued, we pondered and decided to purchase a few along with the ribeye in the counter. Cooked the tomahawks the day after purchasing by reverse searing (as recommended by David) and they turned out amazing. Will definitely be on a lookout for another sale! My girlfriend recommended this place to me. She lives in nearby Fullerton and was excited to tell me about it since I am a big meat eater. They may not be Kosher in which she prefers, but I still will give it a go, and try their meats, in which I did, and they have good quality meats.
