    Carnitas and asada tacos
    Lisa W.

WOW what a find! I was in the USC area and craving tacos and wanted something cheap and authentic. El Ranchito is no hassle and no frills. The carnitas, pollo and steak are BOMB. The meat is clean and not full of fat and gristle. In taco, burrito or quesadilla form, paired with red salsa, your cravings are sure to be satisfied. I love that all orders come with rice and beans. The refried beans are SO good. The service is always quick with family-owned vibes. There is a small covered patio to inhale your food and street parking is not hard to find. I would consider this a hidden gem and am so thankful to my fellow Yelpers for helping me find it! CASH ONLY.

$2/taco, and comes with rice and beans

Wow this brightly painted shack really surprised me! First of all, the teeny enclosed kitchen area was immaculate. The cook (only person there) had a clean white apron, kept counters wiped down, had all meats covered if he wasn't scooping, and even the floor was clean. The dude washed his hands between each duty (cooking, cleaning, cash handling) - better hygiene than any restaurant I've seen in a while. Food- tacos are $2 each, which is more than most street taco places, but they make up for it with huge meat portions and free rice and beans (which were so so). I got a lengua and a barbacoa. Lengua was chopped in big chunks, and a bit on the gamier/ organ-y tasting side. My barbacoa was better, tasty cubes of pork that were marinated well and had a hint of spiciness, it had no sweetness like some barbacoa does. I enjoyed it, but I think will stick to the cheaper, simpler taco truck down the street.

Rarely don't come to this place now . but back in the in the day i use to go and pick up orrnamental iron from the opposite corner and if i was in luck they would still be open at noon they would run out of food quick and would close. I talked to the guy making the food and said now they close at 4:00 pm. I got 2 tacos wich is a full meal , it comes with a side of beans and rice and o also got an adada burrito 2 go. Friendly service always willing to stop by when I'm near by. By the way i think the barbacoa is great here.

Now when you pull up originally you might think, "am I in the right place" but once you park and get into the courtyard, it is LOVELY! Amazing ambience! There is a bocce set up, string lights. It is a little slice of oasis in the middle of the fashion district. The restaurant itself - beautiful. I couldn't ask for more. Absolutely perfect in my book. Beautiful plants hanging, perfect Spanish music in the background (any place playing Natalia LaFourcade is a win). The drinks were great! I had the jungle bird which was fun. Food was so good too. The whipped beans are the star! We had the guacamole which was tasty, great tostadas with it. The arepas were good but the pork belly was a little too fatty (I know pork belly is always fatty) to the point the fat muted the flavored for the arepa a bit, but still delicious. The empanadas were great and as someone who lived in South America and ate empanadas every day, these really took me back to my Paraguay days. The squash blossoms were light and perfectly fried. Unfortunately my friends had gone to Funke the night before so they were comparing the squash blossoms and Funke won out, but they still liked Dama's! Small plates were enough for the 3 of us. The service was quick and attentive. Parking was easy for us. I will definitely be back!

The staff are lovely humans who really seem to care about their customers. We have some faves on the menu. The bean dip is fabulous and I'm addicted to the baby gem salad. They have recently amped up the filling in the delicious crispy squash blossoms and I love the acidity and heat. The fish is also a hit in my books. One dish that doesn't work for me is the lamb chops, which is a shame since it's my favorite protein. I've ordered them multiple times with clear instructions on temperature and have found them overcooked and tough. The beef tostada was just ok. Whilst I loved the pickled veg on the side, the beef was underseasoned. It wasn't bad - just not up to the standard of other dishes. The vibe in the place is welcoming and the restaurant is nicely appointed. We will continue to be regulars and it's really worth trying if you haven't been yet.

All dishes were shareable and there were certainly some remarkable ones. Starting with my most favorite the ceviche bites (I can't tell you exactly what it's called on the menu, but it was one bite that left you enticed for more!) if you like fish, certainly a must. My second favorite, the roasted rainbow carrots (the salsa macha was palatable all by itself!!). Third favorite, grilled chicken (again, not sure the name on the menu but, it was so juicy and perfect with the housemade tortillas). Other menu goodies, the steak (ribeye bites) tortillas with salsa/guacamole, carnitas (looked good), cactus appetizer, and cheese (and cactus?) quesadilla. Unfortunately, I think the menu was somewhat curated for the private party but I CERTAINLY think it's worth exploring. A lively atmosphere to add to it all!

The building is an original piece of the City's history, boasting a menu that features their famous burritos that vary in size from a regular to a huge party size beast that can feed several. I tried the Hollenbeck and the Okie burritos on two separate occasions via pick up, as aforementioned, the service was quick, convenient and the pick up window is seamless, parking is located next to the structure and I haven't had problems getting there. Hollenbeck was good but I definitely enjoyed the Okie burrito more, I ordered the "original" size once and didn't seem to learn my lesson the second time, these burritos can feed two in Original size. They offer a "Mini" version which would be satisfactory for one person. My favorite thing about these burritos is how "home-made" they are, the salsas and meats are fresh and taste like they came out of an abuelitas kitchen. I still need to try the crunchy tacos and nachos which look great, I recommend trying this classic establishment at least once if you're in the area.
