    Mini Hollenbeck Burrito

Always good, always fresh, always made to order, always served hot, and fast! Who doesn't love coming to Americas Favorite Cafe!

My friend has been wanting to try this place because of the huge burritos. Went on Memorial Day so it wasn't super busy. It's fairly small inside , prob big enough to fit 60 people. Staff was efficient on service, but no small talk or being friendly. Disappointing considering this place seems like such a neighborhood gem The food was good. Wish they had some mulitas. Would come back. Was a great value and tasted great.

This is one of my favorite places to frequent. The nostalgia from when I was a kid coming with my parents and the first time getting a Manuel's Special and freaking out on how huge it was. Well times have changed, and now there's online/mobile ordering. Which is a game changer, but with the ease of technology comes with more opportunities for manual errors. As much as hate to leave this message, it needs to be said. I ordered a Mini Okie at 7:12p, according to GrubHub. I'm sure it needed to be printed out manually. I'm sure server Jairo C inadvertently entered a Mini Hollenbeck instead, and because I'm coming from about 20 mi away there's not much I can do. I used to get the Hollenbeck all the time, but fell in love with the Okie because it's topped with cheese and that's what I wanted. The food was amazing as always, but I was Just a little disappointed. Hopefully going forward the people processing delivery orders and orders for pickup pay attention to what's ordered. The receipt from El Tepeyac Cafe said Uber, when I ordered from GrubHub.

Totally forgot,,,, But here is the remnants...

For those of you that are unaware or have never had the pleasure of coming here and enjoying some delicious Mexican American food, This is a historic restaurant that represents not only the Mexican / Chicano culture and history But the history and culture of Los Angeles . The funny thing is I still remember the first time I came here. It was the mid 70s and of course I'm with my family , and I got taquitos ... And I've been coming here periodically since about the age of seven maybe six . Since I moved away 20 years ago, I honestly have been able to come by but when I do get that chance it never disappoints the food is always just so good and it brings back a lot of awesome memories for me. There's always a line, because it's so popular. But totally worth waiting for. And ever since I was a kid, the service has always been great. You have to understand that since it's so popular the waiters and waitresses are running around. Trying to make sure everybody is taken care of.. As for the food well one of the best in LA. You have to understand that this place has been here since the 40s and it is not a secret. It is just part of what LA represents. The food is great. The people are awesome. Doesn't matter what you order. It's always delicious. And for some reason, if you have not tried this place, which is actually kind of strange to me .... Come down grab a burrito and tell me what you think....

We arrived right before the Sunday lunch rush and still had to wait in line--which tells you a lot about this place. It's a local mom-and-pop spot that's clearly beloved by the community, and I can absolutely see why. There's a sense of history here, and it shows in both the food and the hospitality. The food is authentic, flavorful, and very reasonably priced. Nothing feels overdone or trendy--just solid, honest cooking. If you're feeling festive, they'll even offer you a complimentary shot of tequila, which adds to the welcoming, friendly vibe. It's a small place, so patience is key, but the service was good and the food was worth the wait. A great local gem that lives up to its popularity.

    1/2 Chips with Salsa $1.75

What I Ordered: -1/2 Chips with Salsa $1.75 -Hollenbeck Burrito $15.99 Best bang for your buck in LA! This place is a no-frills gem! Thank you to my good friend, Cindy S, for recommending this spot to me! I've had El Tepeyac bookmarked for a while now and never had an opportunity to visit until now. I was close by as I was coming to visit a friend in the hospital, but the visit got pushed back as I had to wait for his family to arrive. I made a spontaneous decision to come here. I got lucky; there was no line when I arrived. I went straight to the counter to take a seat. There are only 7 seats at the counter, and once you sit, you can't switch. I heard from a friend who grew up in the area that owner Manuel use to hand out shots of tequila to those waiting in line. I can't confirm this folklore, but it sounds like this place was quite the vibe back in the day. Although, Manny is no longer with us. His food and legacy lives on. You won't find a better deal especially in this economy. The staff was friendly and helpful! I asked for recommendations and, based on Cindy S.'s suggestion, ordered the Chile Verde Hollenbeck Burrito, which was excellent. This pork chile verde burrito features seared pork simmered in a tomato-based sauce. I ordered the regular size, which is a massive burrito. They offer two sizes, "mini" and "regular," and the $2-$3 price difference is worth it for the larger size, in my opinion. The Hollenbeck Burrito is huge - enough for 2-3 people! I made the mistake of eating the whole thing myself and regretted it. I don't recommend trying to do the same. Save some for later or share - you won't regret it! I was initially under the impression that Chile Verde was a green sauce, but since it's tomato-based, that explains why it's red. The burrito is massive - you won't find one bigger for the price! It's stuffed with rice, meat, and refried beans, topped with tender Pork Chile Verde. There's shredded lettuce, chopped tomato, and guacamole on the side. You absolutely must order the chips and salsa - a generous portion for only $1.75. This is a fantastic spot for delicious, homemade Mexican food - perfect for feeding the whole family! It was my first time here, but definitely won't be my last. I'm already looking forward to returning to El Tepeyac and trying the Taquitos and Machaca Hollenbeck Burrito next time!

This place is a gem. They serve you and insane amount of food at great budget friendly prices and definitely don't cheat you on the portions of meat and all the other ingredients . The servers are all friendly and have a nice big smile on their faces when attending to the customers. I know I'm definitely coming back here and soon , I enjoyed the hollenbeck chile verde wet burrito which was superb in flavor and could only eat about half of it . The place is old and old is cool in my book . Awesome place , people and food .

Great service. Family runner. I ordered a carne asada burrito with rice and beans.

I'm always on the hunt for the best hard tacos around, so when I saw El Tepeyac had them, I had to check this legendary spot out. They are known for their huge burritos, but thats not what I came for, so lets get to it. I have seen this place on TV a bunch of times, but you don't realize how SMALL it is until you actually get in there. Be advised, if you have a large group, you might want to look elsewhere. But lets get to the food. The food is solid. They load the tacos up to the heavens with toppings. Make sure you get a basket of chips and salsa, you'll need the chips to scoop up all the stuff that falls out. Make sure you ask for the red salsa for the tacos too. I also got a cheese enchilada, and that was a BANGER. The staff is welcoming and nice, the service is good. Not the BEST crunchy taco out there, but its definitely solid. I'll definitely be back

    Taquitos with Guacamole Dinner
    Melissa S.

Shared the side chili relleno and chicken taquitos with rice and beans. Everything was delicious. Tons of guacamole for my Taquitos. Loved that! Had to add salt and pepper tho. But super fresh. Chili relleno had tons of flavor. It was very wet and juicy. Different than most places I've been to but still very good. Service was very quick. Guess chips aren't free. I asked for cheese on army beans that there wa a charge of $2.50. I wish the waitress would've warned me. That's ALOT for cheese on too. I would've said no. It was notation come here. I used to come a lot as a kid with my parents. Glad I stopped by

One of the remaining "Old L.A." establishments worth a visit every decade! You know it's still good when the parking lot is full of service trucks from city to independent trades people who keep our systems running. A big plus for free parking! Discovered that next to window for To Go orders is covered outdoor seating! Yay! We ordered the Hollenbeck burrito with carnitas. It's a wet burrito covered in red sauce with chunks of pork on top. Inside is lettuce (because if it was served on the side you wouldn't eat it), rice beans, guacamole and more meat. For $17.51 plus tip, it's a good meal for 2 people to share.

The food is really tasty. I'm very satisfied with my last trip here. The employees are very knowledgeable about the menu and got helped fast.

they charge the people enough to buy a real head of lettuce, tf is this spoiled bag. i got sick from the bad lettuce
    K F.

After being on man vs food, they think theyre the best spot in LA. --its not. Been going here since i was a child and the price has inflated insanely all because they were on the show. They actually leave the side where it tells you the price, blank on menu so they can continue hiking up the price. $15 for a normal size burrito is kind of insane. Also, for that price, give the people real heads of lettuce. they use a prepackaged bag which actually made me feel sick. tasted carcinogen-y. The staff is also incredibly rude...all of them. the cashiers are the worst and the bald manager is even more rude. Also, the banner they have hanging of manuel with a quote, is basically stolen from dr. suess lmao He was cool when he was alive and my family's close friend and neighbor but yall tarnishing his legacy. the soda from the soda machine ALWAYS tastes flat. One time, i ate inside the restaurant and they offer chips and dip, then charge u for it! dont offer if its not complimentary., Theyre so weird here.

Hi I'm I stressed in ordering the holler back machaca - it looks delicious.however I don't eat pork for religious reasons. So I just want to ask?…

I’m almost 100% certain their beans are cooked with lard. But you should call to be sure.

Are the beans prepared with lard these days?

    They are prepared with lard

Do they deliver with Door Dash,Grub-Hub,Postmates or Uber-eats?

Uber Eats does, which also owns Postmates. Have seen it on Door Dash too. Not sure about Grub-Hub but guessing they do as well

Why don't they answer the phone?

Well I know they are closed on one day a the week

    Do they serve beer?

    Sadly. No

Is the patio dining currently open? Or only take out? Do they open at 6am on Sundays? Thank You

    Yes to patio dining

    Is Manny still there?

    He passed away in 2013.

How much is the Manuel special?

I believe that it starts at about $20 and goes up from there depending what kind of meat and style you want.

Are the rice and beans cooked with lard?

Yes, I believe they are. They used to hide that fact but now they embrace the extra flavor that the lard gives, makes for better tasting beans.....not sure about the rice, I would think not.

Is there anything someone who's vegan can eat?

    Guacamole or beans?

After fighting my way through South Bay traffic and making the drive from Hermosa, I can confidently say it was 100% worth it. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt warm, welcoming, and full of heart. You can tell there's a lot of love behind what they're doing here, and that energy carries through everything from the service to the food and, of course, the coffee. I ordered a quad espresso over ice, and wow... it was absolutely delicious. Smooth, flavorful, perfectly balanced, and honestly one of the better iced espressos I've had in a long time. Even better, the prices felt very fair for the quality. For food, I ordered the chilaquiles and the frijoladas, and both were incredible. They had this subtle but delicious undertone of spice that kept building with every bite. The surprise star of the visit was their house syrup. It was so good that I ended up buying a bottle to take home. The flavor instantly transported me back to mornings in Mexico with my grandma, waking up early, sipping coffee together, and enjoying the comforting aroma of café de olla. It was one of those unexpected moments where a simple taste brings back a flood of memories. Great coffee, amazing food, beautiful atmosphere, and a little taste of nostalgia. I'll definitely be making the drive back.

I do recommend trying it if its your first time and want something not so heavy. I like the chilaquiles, its better when you add a fried egg. Soo yummy, savory, and flavorful! As for the coffee, if you like a pick me up... and a coffee that isn't sweet but strong. I suggest a refresher drink (tonics). The coffee is sugary and you unfortunately cant taste some of the coffee. If that's your preference, we'll i recommend. Besides that, the environment is lovely and art they have. So circled back with my son-in-law's brother, and had a good experience. CafeNina is located at the upper entrance of the 4th street Pedestrian stairs between Lorena and Concorde. These stairs were created in 1928, as a way to allow pedestrian connection between the elevated East 4th street and the neighborhood below. I've taken this many times, but as I tend to do when trying to reach a destination, ignored the journey until now. It opened in 2023 in Boyle Heights, expressing the owner's passion for coffee, specifically with Mexican flavors. I never went to a place like this before, so looked up how it is defined: the best term I could find was 'cozy family focused house-front coffee cart'. We came around lunch time so there were no longer any pastries. But the very friendly owner advised that most drinks were available. One page of the menu was devoted to various Matchas, so JM and I got the same thing: a large iced strawberry Matcha Latte ($8 each). One has the choice of dairy/non-dairy, so chose almond milk. There's a lovely backyard area with a few cafe tables, reminding me of someone's well appointed backyard. It's dog friendly, and we spent a couple of hours talking while enjoying our drinks. It got busier towards the end of our stay, and Simba was getting restless, so we made our leave. A definite place to consider if near the Boyle Heights area, and wanting to enjoy some coffee based drinks.

I decided to try something new and went for the Chocolate Forest Matcha... absolutely divine. Rich, earthy, slightly sweet, and so beautifully balanced. What surprised me most is how different the inside feels compared to the outside. From the street, it looks a little gahtto and unassuming, but the moment you step in, it's a completely different world -- cozy, bright, warm, and welcoming. It's the kind of space that makes you want to stay longer than you planned. Damo continues to be one of those rare spots where the drinks are memorable and the atmosphere feels like a little hidden gem.

The drinks are incredible, the lattes are rich with flavor and espresso. My personal recommendations are the 'Of Spice and Bees' and the 'Dear Jasmine'. Not to mention their croissants are flaky, warm, and tasty. The staff are incredible. Kind, quick, and likeable. I always feel at home when I walk in. And whether I grab my fix on my way to work or I sit for hours doing work on my laptop, I never get tired of this place. The music that plays makes the whole place feel cozy. The decor is super cute and I love their commitment to their community seen in the flyers posted around of different public events and community outreach. This is truly the best spot in the neighborhood.

The coffee shop started at farmers markets and now the shop has the current brick-and-mortar location. [Parking]: There is a free parking structure behind the plaza so parking shouldn't be an issue; however, I did have to drive up to the third level of the structure to find an available parking spot on Saturday morning. [Amenity]: Not a huge coffee house with few outdoor chairs and six indoor tables. The shop was not crowded at 10 AM on Saturday, so it didn't take long for me to receive my order. There is no restroom inside the cafe, but keys for the outdoor men's and women's restrooms are available at the cashier counter. [Menu]: Unlike other matcha shops, this coffee house offers three different varieties of ceremonial-grade matcha (Kagoshima, Chiran, or Asanoka) from Fukuoka, Japan for customers to pick. Yelp's top three highlighted drinks are Furious George, Dear Jasmine, and Luxurious George. Please note that 2% lactose-free milk is the default and customers also need to choose one of two espresso options for lattes: light-medium roast (Manhattan - Ethiopia & Colombia) or medium-dark roast (Vietnam). For baked goods, they offer muffins and croissants & I even spotted an interesting items like kimchi & spam croissant. *** Furious George (2 shots of espresso, sweetened with cane sugar, flavored with vanilla and banana balanced by milk (2% Lactose Free, 100% Sweet, Regular, Regular Hot, Manhattan Blend Med-Light espresso - $7.75): A lightly sweetened solid latte. *** A good coffee shop for local community college students from East Los Angeles College (ELAC) to stop by and recharge.
