    Erizo / sea urchin

This place continues to be one of my favorites. I took some family who were visiting from out of town today and they were so happy with the meal! We got our favorites... the live sea urchin and the ceviche de atun. The ceviche is a showstopper, everyone loved it. This time we got the whole sea bass entree (pescada à la brasa), two pulpo tacos, and the shrimp aguachile. I loved the shrimp aguachile, the fried prawn heads are so crispy and tasty. The sea bass entree was good and had a beautiful presentation, it was also nice for sharing, but the number of bones to pick out was a little annoying. That's what you get with ordering a full fish though! Not their fault. The pulpo tacos were tasty too, I love their handmade blue tortillas. But probably my least favorite of the bunch. Get the ceviche de atun! The aguachile was bomb too. And the live sea urchin is always good.

I have been stalking this restaurant on Instagram for the past year. We finally had a chance to go on a Saturday afternoon and now my satisfaction has been satisfied. The place is like a food hall. It's loud, seats are limited, but the line does move quick. If there are no seats at the counter, you can always find a seat anywhere, but you better order enough because it is difficult to get back in line to order something else. The food is nothing short of amazing. The staff here worked very hard and you can tell they care about what they put out. They made a really good recommendations, I got the Kopache smoked yellowtail, which is my favorite dish so far, I also got the yellowtail ceviche, the scallops. I would probably pass on next time, although it was very fresh. It had a very distinct zesty taste a little strong on the lime. Also got the sea urchin, which is fresh and flavorful, and two orders of the churro because we had to take one home it was that good. I can't wait to come back and try their hot foods next time. We were too full with what was already on our menu. In total about $117 including tip.

Line was long when we pulled up on a Thursday for lunch. Parked in the small lot - but not a lot of parking available. We got lucky. Waited in the 20 minute line and ordered a whole lot of everything so we could try everything. Everything was delicious. The guacamole - really well seasoned - preferred the regular tortilla chips vs the really crunchy other thing it came with. It almost broke my tooth trying to bite through it. LOL. LOVED the mixto ceviche, the octopus taco and the uni & scallop ceviche.. Loved the entire market it sat in and will definitely be back to try more. I would pass on the Baja fish taco next time.

Still wonderful after all these years! I finally tried something different as well as ordering old favorites like the octopus, fried fish and shrimp tacos. The gambas were amazing! I don't know how they made this incredible sauce that I could have literally eaten with a spoon. Perfectly barely cooked gambas, with plenty of head juices and sides!

Everything we ordered was bomb! I have to come back again. My favorite was the scallop ceviche.

I drove 35 minutes from South Bay, then waited in line for 40 minutes to sit at a table. The novelty of trying many seafood options, with chefs constantly curating new menus, is great. It's manageable to have a satisfying solo experience by ordering smaller items, though I regret not ordering a ceviche or entree. The wait made me want to try more variety. Favorite to least favorite from this visit: Kanpachi Tostada - Baja Fish Taco - Grouper Tostada - Baja Shrimp - Fat Bastard Oysters. Their staff is very helpful breaking down the menu, which I greatly appreciate. You're in good hands!

We went 5pm on a Thursday and there was barely a wait! Always love the sparkling lemonade. - Rockfish collars 2.2/5 The fish itself is pretty salty- tastes like the sea. They over salt the batter so the whole dish is salty. They also over fried it so it's not soft or tender. It's chewy. - Fried fish taco 5/5 MMMMM. Yes! Definitely the best thing here. The fish is crunchy and tender and flakey on the inside. A very very delicious taco. [RECOMMEND] - Tuna Ceviche 4.7/5 A very fresh tasting dish. It's delicious, definitely needs more lime. - Grilled Branzino 4.5/5 The fish was very tender and had a Smokey taste from the grill. It was very yummy! - octopus taco 2.1/5 It's not as mindblowing as eating the octopus entree one. Fish tacos are better. - Cheesecake 1/5 We waited for 50 minutes for A SLIVER of mediocre cheesecake. AVOID. Free street parking

Finally got a chance to get to Holbox to checkout their seafood tacos. Luckily the line wasn't too long and the order process was fast and the delivery was fairly quick. I ordered the Octopus and scallops tacos which were tasty. The scallops were a little bit tiny but they were still good. My friend got the shrimp and fish tacos and she was happy and enjoyed her tacos. I originally thought it was the only business there but there were many other businesses on the premise. They have a tiny parking lot and you pay $2.29 per hour to park. You scan a QR code and you pay for parking there. After you place your food order, they give you a number and you go have a seat and someone delivers your food to you. Each taco is pretty expensive but you definitely get quality and it's good to try at least once.

A long wait, but well worth the price. This spot has to be one of the best spots in LA. Their tacos were so so good. We tried all of them and all of them were fantastic. We also got their ceviche and it was even better. Really enjoyed the different hot salsa options as well. The tostada was a great crunch and another great option. Def a must try! The line goes by at a good pace.

Definitely get some guac for your wait!

I got lucky. Drove in and found a parking right near the entrance. My mom met me there so I didn't have to wait in line as she already had seats for us. Had some tacos and my mom had fish. Don't remember the name but will post pictures. Fresh seafood. Nice presentation. Welcoming and friendly service that makes you feel like they know you. Overall had a cool experience and the wait was worth it.

Been here about 5 times and it never disappoints! Love the ahi tostadas and the tacos, the amount of fish given is always a ton. Loved the shrimp platter but enjoyed the tacos more. Service is always so helpful and kind and even with lines there is always seating getting prepped for customers. I've never tried the surrounding restaurants as we always leave so full and happy! Parking isn't bad as they have a lot in front of them. Go try if you haven't!

Currently sitting after i just inhaled everything. But so so so so so incredibly good. The ceviche de atun (bluefin tuna) was my favorite item we had. The tostada was AMAZINGLY crunchy but maintained its integrity whenever you break/bite it (it dint just crackle off and break how it wants) The fish is so so so fresh and light and the flavors of everything mixed in is amazing. My next fave thing was the yellowtail because of the chili oil thing they put on top. It really tied everything together (and again the tostada kept its crunchiness and integrity throughout the entire meal). Holy flavor burst. Next is the Baja fish taco, which tops my #1 (taco nazo). The batter & tenderness of fist is what i look for the most in a fish taco and this place did not disappoint. The batter was not oily at all and extremely airy, but not EXTREMELY crunchy (but that's okay). The kanpachi taco was also really solid. The fish was cooked perfectly and i love all the toppings that it came with. My least favorite (don't get me wrong, it was still REALLY good) was the octopus taco which was solid. It was really good, im just not the biggest fan of octopus in general. Overall, i think everything on their menu is well versed and crafted to perfection flavor wise. The price is solid for a place w a Michelin star and i like how home-y it feels, being in a food court. I will most definitely be back (we waited 1 hour, but i would wait longer). Slightly exceeded my extremely high expectations for this place. Servers were also extremely helpful and kind.

En route from the San Francisco Bay area to Orange County, I stopped by Holbox around 3:30p on a weekday to find that parking is a challenge and there was a short line to order food, but I was expecting all that and was intent on eating here. Here's what I ordered: Octopus Taco Baja Fish Taco Scallop and Shrimp Ceviche Hamachi Collar Sopa de Mariscos (Seafood Soup) As I had expected, the food was presented well and the fish tasted fresh. Honestly, I was expecting leftovers, but my partner and I ate more than we should have and finished off the whole thing. When we left Holbox, there was an even longer line than the one we waited in.

It seems to always have a long line

What's the wait like if you're going on a Saturday 30 min before opening?

We visited this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon and found a long line, but it wasn't at all overwhelming. The staff was busy efficiently letting everyone in. Trust me, it was worth the wait! Just make sure you're hungry before you come.

How long is a typical wait time for 2 people on a Friday night around 7ish?

It depends.. if you get there early or just before it opens, then it's quick. If you show up during prime time like lunch or dinner, it will be 30 to 40 minutes. The line moves fairly quickly, but there's a ton of people.. And sometimes, you'll get… Read more

Are dogs allowed in the outdoor seating area?

I don't believe there is outdoor seating anymore.

Does the inside have central air conditioning (HVAC) and/or air purifier(s) to filter indoor air?

It's a food court with good ventilation (AC). The food court has a wide entry way. So I don't think the air is filtered

When are the least busy days/times to go to Holbox?

Best time is arround 3pm on Tuesday or Wednesday... No trouble finding parking and little to no line.

    Good for kids?

For seating, it depends on the age of your kids & if they can stay in their seats. They have bar counter seating and a some 4 seat tables. Since it's in a food market hall, it's not "closed off" like a restaurant so if the kids don't stay in their… Read more

We actually don’t take reservations. Super casual, order-at-the-counter service in a food hall setting.

The shrimp cocktail was especially good, with generously sized shrimp and a tasty cocktail sauce. My order had 14 shrimp, which felt like a fair portion for the price. It came with three tostadas, though only one hot sauce packet was included. That's a minor detail, but I would have appreciated extra packets. Good Value Seafood isn't cheap, but the prices here seem reasonable. They also offer weekday lunch specials that make items like the shrimp cocktail an even better deal. The campechana is another solid option and worth trying. Small Neighborhood Spot The restaurant itself is small, but there always seem to be customers inside, which says a lot. I also like that they decorate for holidays...it gives the place a welcoming neighborhood feel. Pickup Experience I've only ordered takeout, and my food has been ready quickly both times. Service was decent overall, although there was a brief moment during my last visit where I wasn't acknowledged right away while waiting for my order. Overall If you're craving a good shrimp cocktail or campechana, this local spot is worth checking out. Fresh seafood, fair prices, and a convenient neighborhood location make it a place I'll be visiting again.

We started with the oyster sampler featuring selections from Hollywood, MD; Pope's Bay, VA; Buzzards Bay, MA; Chesapeake Bay, VA; and Wellfleet, MA. The oysters were exceptionally fresh and served with great accompaniments. We always order oysters when visiting seafood restaurants because freshness is so important to us, and Water Grill absolutely delivered. A must-order. The grilled Spanish octopus, served with fingerling potatoes, Niçoise olives, roasted tomato, pine nuts, and olive oil, was very good (3.5/5). We're fairly picky when it comes to octopus, and while we would have liked a bit more char, it was still among the better versions we've had. The New Zealand king salmon sushi with avocado, hazelnuts, papaya, and white soy-lime vinaigrette was fresh, clean, and delicious (5/5). While not particularly unique, it was executed perfectly. The crispy calamari with harissa aioli and cilantro-mint sweet chili sauce was also well done (4/5)--crispy, not oily, and very enjoyable. Calamari is another dish we frequently order, and this version met our standards, even if it wasn't especially memorable. The standout among the appetizers was the New Zealand pink bream ceviche with cilantro, red peppers, onions, lemon juice, and olive oil. The presentation was beautiful, and the flavors were incredibly fresh (5/5). We only added a touch of salt. This is another must-order dish. The Peruvian bay scallops with pistachio citrus pesto were somewhat underwhelming (3/5), and the Brussels sprouts with bacon and chestnuts (3/5) didn't leave much of an impression either. The lobster itself was excellent (5/5)--sweet, fresh, and perfectly prepared. The accompanying coleslaw wasn't our favorite, but we'd happily order the lobster again and probably go for a larger portion next time. The absolute star of the evening was the Massachusetts black sea bass. It was easily one of the best dishes of the night and possibly one of the best fish dishes we've ever had at a restaurant (5/5). Tender, juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. To top it all off, the restaurant surprised us with a complimentary birthday dessert featuring chocolate cake, vanilla cake, oatmeal cake, and ice cream. It was thoughtful, delicious, and a wonderful ending to the meal (5/5). Overall, Water Grill earns a well-deserved 5/5. The quality and freshness of the seafood were outstanding, the beachfront ambiance was beautiful, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout the evening. Definitely a must-try seafood destination in Los Angeles. Thank you to the entire team for such a memorable experience--we truly appreciated it.

Mercado La Paloma Offerings: Offering a unique blend of local retail, cuisine, and cultural experiences. Developed by Esperanza Community Housing Corporation, it provides affordable business opportunities and living-wage jobs for local residents. 1st Floor Community Room Rental Fees: - $25/hour for current Mercado tenants, vendors, and local community groups - $60/hour for external nonprofits - $100/hour for external for-profits - $55 per day for day table rentals For Room Reservations and more information, email: daniel@mercadolapaloma.com Shop Vendor Stalls Inside Mercado La Paloma: 1) Gloria's Alterations 2) Joe's Sports World 3) Donaji Oaxacan Crafts 4) Paloma Cutlery ========= Food Vendor Stalls Inside Mercado La Paloma: 1) Holbox 2) Taqueria Vista Hermosa 3) Thai Corner Food Express 4) Chichen Itza 5) Komal 6) Oaxacalifornia ======== Wait Time: Wait time doesn't seem like an issue with 5 of the 6 food vendors. The one food vendor that you might have to wait for is Holbox (Michelin 1 Star). I went over the weekend and the food vendor stall had a separate line dedicated to the shop. Took about 40 minutes get to the front of the line to order. Parking: Paid parking can be found in their private parking lot and free parking on Grand and surrounding neighboring streets. Ambiance/Decor: Pretty cool ambiance with plenty of tables and chairs inside outside for your dining pleasure. Shops/Food Vendor Of Choice: I haven't visit any of the shop vendors stalls, but I've visited 3 (Holbox, Taqueria Vista Hermosa, and Thai Corner Food Express) out of 6 food vendors stalls. All the food vendors that I've tried were very good. Mercado La Paloma For Thought: I would mind coming back to try other food vendors.

The soy crab and spicy crab both have their strengths, I would recommend the spicy crab if you need the sauce to hide a little bit of the fishiness of the crab. For those who don't like raw crab, the crab soup had a deep crab flavor and tasted very comforting and homemade. Since it was our first time, the server was very helpful and gave us recommendations. One crab is definitely enough for two people, especially with all the delicious side dishes that it comes with. While they give you gloves and a bib, come prepared to make a mess and get into the shells! It's hard work, but it's definitely a great group experience and is perfect for chatting with friends. This was a great meal and you could definitely taste the quality of the crab!

We forgot how difficult it can be to find parking in LA, but we managed to find one on the side of the road, just to find out... this restaurant has their own parking lot. Hehe. Went around 5pm and saw we were the first ones seated while a handful of people came and gone for to go orders. I immediately ordered the soy marinated crab and live uni. There is a combo order of both, but it includes the American marinated crab and an extra small live uni. With their recommendation, we opted for the Korean marinated crab and small uni to share with 2 adults and one kid. When the food came out, they gave us another live uni on the house and I was so happy because I didn't want to share mine! The food was so homey and delicious. The seafood pajeon was so loaded with all the seafood bits and the soy bean soup was the perfect palette cleanser. Service was great and they were so helpful to answer any questions we had. They gave us extra water for our little one and refilled our tea when it was a fourth full. They were so tentative and asked how we liked the food. We loved it. We also enjoyed the banchan!
