I tried this place with some friends while in Los Angeles doing a weekend acting study at Howard Fine studio next-door. Such a great place for us all to grab lunch and have a few drinks after class. It's a very cozy dark atmosphere. The service was also great.

Stopped by after a Dodgers game with a friend and her mom (she's the one who recommended it). The interior has that classic older hacienda-style kitchen feel, and there was a trio playing traditional songs while we ate. The space is pretty small, so the music ended up being a bit too loud for easy conversation, which was the only downside. Food-wise everything was good. Chips and guac were a good start. I had the chicken enchiladas and my husband got the shrimp enchiladas, both were pretty good. My mango margarita was also nice and came with a fun, unexpected presentation for a simple drink.

Left ( chicken mole enchiladas) with real chicken! Por k chille tomatillo sauce and a cucumber margarita,

Recently visited with my family and I was pleasantly surprised. I'd never been to this L.A. classic before and immediately saw what everyone was talking about. Classic L.A. Mexican restaurant with excellent food, strong margaritas and great ambience. The food was served piping hot. Delicious and fresh guac made to order. Crispy beef tacos that were delectable. No complaints whatsoever. Definitely making this apart of my routine when I want Mexican food.

As soon as you walk in, the vibe is amazing--live music and that classic old-school Mexican restaurant atmosphere. The only thing I'd mention is that parking is in the back, but the host stand is in the front, so it felt a little awkward walking through the restaurant to check in. The margaritas were on fire--literally! One of the staff members (I wish I remembered his name--it started with a D) was super energetic and checked in on us every 30 minutes. The waitress was also super friendly and positive. The whole staff had such great energy--it was truly a vibe. The food was good! The chips and salsa were so good, I think I filled up just on those. I loved everything about this place. I'll be back! It's right next to Dodger Stadium, so it's the perfect pre-game stop for a drink. I also really appreciated the family-owned feel.

Was here last week with a friend, nice little spot pretty busy. It was really loud as they had a group singing and playing instruments so you are pretty much yelling so you can hear when speaking. The drinks were really good and the food was okay. Parking is $5 bucks Ill probably be back For the vibes and drinks maybe not for food. Shou out to our server really nice and attentive Santiago

We have been coming to the wonderful establishment for about 20 years now! And it is hands down our favorite restaurant of all time!!! The place has a home feel, the service is on point, always making sure you have fresh chips n salsa or refilling your cup with water or soda. The alcoholic drinks are top notch especially there flaming margaritas. And the food is just like mom or grandma use to make. You cant go wrong with whatever you choose to eat? The Pollo ala plancha is a always a good go 2! or the shrimp cocktail, steak salad or my favorite? Then padrino It comes with a steak an enchilada, hard shell taco, with rice and beans. The price for everything is responsible, not expensive at all. Come on down for some of the best authentic Mexican food echo park had to offer.

We walk in and the place is beautifully done inside! Chill ambiance, nice materials, cool tile and artwork . We chose a booth, but there were plenty of seating options on a Sunday earlyish evening. The menu? Whoa! Wtf in a great way!!!! They explain the science behind how they create every elixir aaaand how they are so sustainable! #1 sustainable bar in North America and apparently #24 of top 50 bars in North America! We tried the: Fu Gwaa Falsetto: SO cool! They used a bitter melon, which is hard to include in things, and made a dope drink! The sprinkles on top were my fave and tied the drink together. Koji Killer: dessert drink for sure, but I kinda needed a second one delicious! Barcelonette: refreshing, light, lovely P Town Boxing Club: a little disappointed that I couldn't taste the pandan as much, didn't get as much of a distinct flavor Hops Don't Lie: canned, refreshing, my partner like it! The servers/bartenders were so cool and knowledgeable about the menu, they even brought us samples and let us know if we didn't like something they'd replace it! And did! Will definitely be back to try more concoctions

We decided to get a drink to celebrate Father's Day, only to strike out at the first two bars we tried--I guess a lot of places are closed at 9:30 on a Sunday. This is how we ended up at Thunderbolt, a buzzy bar in Echo Park, just far enough away that we'd never made our way over. I loved it immediately. Thunderbolt has the friendly, comfortable atmosphere of a neighborhood bar and the hip aesthetic and high-level cocktails of a millennial boozer destination. (Not that young people can't or shouldn't hang out here, but it seems especially geared toward people like us, who drank at Walker Inn a decade ago.) We ended up sitting next to a guy who regularly drives up from Palos Verdes. I guess the place gets pretty busy, but it was ideal on a Sunday night. Happening but not crowded, with just enough space at the bar for us to grab two seats together. The bartender was great, super helpful and welcoming. He also made excellent drinks. Thunderbolt is one of those bars with an encyclopedic illustrated book for a menu. Not a long menu, just a detailed one, with a lot of information available about each drink. We got a Liquid Picnic and a Barcelonnette--just one round to close out the weekend. Both were delicious. The Liquid Picnic was a smooth, savory gin martini made with London dry gin, tomato, citron, vermouth, rosemary, and black pepper. I learned from the book that it used clarified tomato water. (There was also further reading about the clarification process.) The Barcelonnette was a mezcal sour with Suze, passionfruit, and lime, the foam made without egg white through some geeky mixologist process. Thunderbolt is not our neighborhood bar, but we plan to go back when we can to check out the rest of the menu. It's a wonderful place, well worth a jaunt on the freeway.

We went on an early Thursday evening, so it was pretty dead, which honestly I liked. But on the weekends it turns into a piano bar, so if you want the full experience that's probably when you should come. My partner wanted to check this place out, and I had absolutely no idea what I was walking into. I used to live in Savannah, Georgia, and walking in immediately reminded me of bars back there. I've missed places like this. I didn't even bother looking at the menu. I asked one question: "Do you have fried pickles?" "And are they spears?" Check. And check. Instantly passed my very low bar test for a place like this, and they tasted exactly how I wanted them to. Both bartenders were great too. Easy to shoot the shit with. Although I will say... I kind of wished there were just a couple old guys sitting in the corner quietly brooding over their drinks. They also have pickled eggs, which I honestly can't remember seeing at another bar in LA. And if pickled pig's feet are your thing... they've got those too. They've never been my thing. The only thing that really pulled me out of the atmosphere was the giant ring light by the bathroom. I guess you have to keep the younger crowd entertained these days if a live piano player isn't enough. There's also the market next door, which is owned by the same people and looks like it's full of good stuff, but it was closed when we visited. I'm assuming it's open on the weekends too, which is another reason I'd recommend coming, if you want the full experience. One last thing... don't be a dick and order a Ramos Gin Fizz when the place is slammed. We only ordered one because it was completely dead.
