    Chicken Quesadillas

El Rancho Grande is about as authentic as it gets for Mexican food on Olvera Street. The four of us stopped by for brunch after the Los Muertos 5K, along with what felt like everyone else from the race, so it was understandably packed. It turned out to be a one-man operation, with the same person cooking and taking orders. We placed our orders at the counter and grabbed a table as soon as one opened up. My husband's chicken quesadilla and my enchilada with taco plate came out fairly quickly. Both were tasty and generous in portion. However, our two friends' meals never arrived, and after a while, we had to remind the chef, he had clearly been overwhelmed by the post-race rush. Once their burrito and taquito plate finally came out, we all dug in and finished our food pretty quickly. Overall, it was a good meal for the price, but the experience would've been smoother with a bit more help on such a busy day.

Taquitos dorados. Simple, succulent, and delicious when prepared with care. I love finding places that prepare them well, and El Rancho Grande delivers the real-ness in classic LA form. Cuisine: 5/5. Nothing to dislike. Beverage: 4/5. Horchata. Nothing to dislike. Service: 5/5. Basics covered. Helpful and prompt. Say less. Ambiance: 5/5. Olvera St. is always enjoyable. It's dope to be in presence of the real, authentic LA. That said, the lack of folks on Olvera St. this day was eerie, and hopefully not a harbinger of things to come due to recent gestapo raids.

Dia de Muertos in Olvera Street was packed. With so many eateries and vendors that night, El Rancho Grande came in clutch. I ordered the Raul Special which included a bean and cheese burrito, taquitos, and a drink. The venue was small, outside, and seating was limited. However, they have a great turnaround and at the time the lines everywhere were long. The food was ok, both the taquitos and burritos. I'll probably consider other spots, but it's not bad if all the venues out there are packed and you need something to munch on quick.

Cozy place to sit. I felt like I was family here.

I had to review this place. From the moment I walked up I felt welcomed like I was part of the family. The setting was quiet and so peaceful. Extremely serene. Jesse had such a warm and welcoming personality, and was so easy to talk to and made my visit extremely special. I wish I would've gotten everyone's name, but the other gentleman was like a favorite Tio. Everyone who was there or stopped by, was treated so much love. I must say that the food was amazing and I would love to come back again to eat and visit. This was an unforgettable experience!

I have been coming to this place for years l! It never fails to hit the spot. The workers have been here for so long. This is a family owned restaurant and they are all friendly and welcoming. It's definitely worth the wait if there is a wait. The taquitos are my go to! But everything is delicious. Try this place you will love it.

This restaurant did not disappoint!! A bit expensive but worth every penny!! The food here speaks the truth and nothing but the truth!! Service was prompt and quick!! Tacos and enchiladas are among the best I had!! REAL authentic Mexican food and NOT touristy crap. For all those looking for some good food on Olvera Street make this your most important stop. This restaurant had been around since the 1930's and still going strong!!

There are many taquerias on Olvera Street, but our favorite has been El Rancho Grande. Their Taquitos and Guacamole Sauce are the best in my opinion. Their tacos and enchiladas are also very good. The service is always good and they're usually packed, just wait your turn for a table and be ready to enjoy delicious Taquitos. This is a hole-in-the wall spot and it's delicious. There is a small parking lot close to the entrance on one side and two big lots on the other side.

My brother and I visited Olvera Street for the first time in 50+ years. We had first gotten a couple of taquitos for $6.50 from Cielito Lindo, but we were still hungry. As we continued down Olvera Street, we saw El Rancho Grande and ordered two taquitos for almost half the price at $3.50. El Rancho Grande's taquitos were similar to Cielito Lindo's, but the avocado sauce was much thicker, and the avocado flavor was more pronounced. After chatting with the extremely friendly Chef Carlos, we were enticed to try a potato hard shell taco, which was delicious!

There's yummy enchiladas hidden in here! So good

The menu is quite simple, but beware that no prices are listed on the main menu, but they are on the paper menus. They accept Apple Pay/credit cards. I ordered the asada burrito and the pollo caramelo and added the grilled poblano (as recommended on Yelp!). The tortillas were the true stars -- soft, nice chew, with a buttery mouth feel (probably lard). The fillings were just ok. The inside reminded me of a Taco Bell 7 layer burrito -- a lot going on but all the flavors kinda blend together. I (incorrectly) thought the beans were refried, but they are not. Whatever is going on inside, I didn't find much structure. The burrito was the best. The caramelo was a lazily folded burrito. I read that it was like a quesadilla, but I couldn't disagree more. I would skip this next time. I spent $25 and it was a lot of food, but I wasn't impressed, especially given the hype and the fact that LA should really be the pinnacle of Mexican food. Not sure if I'll make a second trip here.

Now when you pull up originally you might think, "am I in the right place" but once you park and get into the courtyard, it is LOVELY! Amazing ambience! There is a bocce set up, string lights. It is a little slice of oasis in the middle of the fashion district. The restaurant itself - beautiful. I couldn't ask for more. Absolutely perfect in my book. Beautiful plants hanging, perfect Spanish music in the background (any place playing Natalia LaFourcade is a win). The drinks were great! I had the jungle bird which was fun. Food was so good too. The whipped beans are the star! We had the guacamole which was tasty, great tostadas with it. The arepas were good but the pork belly was a little too fatty (I know pork belly is always fatty) to the point the fat muted the flavored for the arepa a bit, but still delicious. The empanadas were great and as someone who lived in South America and ate empanadas every day, these really took me back to my Paraguay days. The squash blossoms were light and perfectly fried. Unfortunately my friends had gone to Funke the night before so they were comparing the squash blossoms and Funke won out, but they still liked Dama's! Small plates were enough for the 3 of us. The service was quick and attentive. Parking was easy for us. I will definitely be back!

The staff are lovely humans who really seem to care about their customers. We have some faves on the menu. The bean dip is fabulous and I'm addicted to the baby gem salad. They have recently amped up the filling in the delicious crispy squash blossoms and I love the acidity and heat. The fish is also a hit in my books. One dish that doesn't work for me is the lamb chops, which is a shame since it's my favorite protein. I've ordered them multiple times with clear instructions on temperature and have found them overcooked and tough. The beef tostada was just ok. Whilst I loved the pickled veg on the side, the beef was underseasoned. It wasn't bad - just not up to the standard of other dishes. The vibe in the place is welcoming and the restaurant is nicely appointed. We will continue to be regulars and it's really worth trying if you haven't been yet.

The mole was rich, complex, and full of flavor, exactly what you would hope for from a restaurant known for its Oaxacan specialties. I browsed the menu and had a really hard time deciding, but ended up on the cauliflower rajas taco, the crispy shrimp taco & the vegan Korean BBQ taco. The waiter recommended the crispy shrimp taco, but I actually enjoyed the vegetarian tacos more. I love cauliflower and poblano so that taco was a great starter. So much flavor and a variety of textures. The tortillas were super flavorful too. The potato taquitos came next and I am actually obsessed. The outside was perfectly crispy, the interior was soft, flavorful & cheesy. The sauce complimented it perfectly. I can not recommend them enough.
