El Rancho Grande is about as authentic as it gets for Mexican food on Olvera Street. The four of us stopped by for brunch after the Los Muertos 5K, along with what felt like everyone else from the race, so it was understandably packed. It turned out to be a one-man operation, with the same person cooking and taking orders. We placed our orders at the counter and grabbed a table as soon as one opened up. My husband's chicken quesadilla and my enchilada with taco plate came out fairly quickly. Both were tasty and generous in portion. However, our two friends' meals never arrived, and after a while, we had to remind the chef, he had clearly been overwhelmed by the post-race rush. Once their burrito and taquito plate finally came out, we all dug in and finished our food pretty quickly. Overall, it was a good meal for the price, but the experience would've been smoother with a bit more help on such a busy day. read more

Dia de Muertos in Olvera Street was packed. With so many eateries and vendors that night, El Rancho Grande came in clutch. I ordered the Raul Special which included a bean and cheese burrito, taquitos, and a drink. The venue was small, outside, and seating was limited. However, they have a great turnaround and at the time the lines everywhere were long. The food was ok, both the taquitos and burritos. I'll probably consider other spots, but it's not bad if all the venues out there are packed and you need something to munch on quick. read more

I had to review this place. From the moment I walked up I felt welcomed like I was part of the family. The setting was quiet and so peaceful. Extremely serene. Jesse had such a warm and welcoming personality, and was so easy to talk to and made my visit extremely special. This restaurant on Olvera St. is a solid place to receive food quickly. I got the 3 taquitos with beans and salad combination ($10). Just a few minutes after I made my order, I got my plate of food. The person who cooked my food offered me a drink, and I chose an iced water. The portion size was adequate, but I felt like there could've been a little bit more beans and salad for the price. The taquitos were still filling and had a light, pleasant flavor. The salad and the tomato slice were also fresh. Wow! This place is amazing!!! I've never been, I went today as my friend and I went shopping and decided to get lunch. To my surprise, this little gem has the best service and truly deserves a 10 out 10, Homemade salsas are all delicious, the potato taco is so good, reminds me of my mother's cooking and of course the chicken taquitos with the green sauce and a side of refried beans definitely hit the spot. It's a 5 generational owned restaurant, in the middle Olverea street. The have a very casual seating area, small dining, but very comfortable after walking around, it was so nice to sit down and have a drink and a meal. I'll definitely be back here soon! read more

There are many taquerias on Olvera Street, but our favorite has been El Rancho Grande. Their Taquitos and Guacamole Sauce are the best in my opinion. Their tacos and enchiladas are also very good. The service is always good and they're usually packed, just wait your turn for a table and be ready to enjoy delicious Taquitos. This is a hole-in-the wall spot and it's delicious. As we continued down Olvera Street, we saw El Rancho Grande and ordered two taquitos for almost half the price at $3.50. El Rancho Grande's taquitos were similar to Cielito Lindo's, but the avocado sauce was much thicker, and the avocado flavor was more pronounced. I came here for the first time today. Apparently my boyfriends dad had been coming here for almost 50 years and our server has worked at the restaurant for 46 years! The owner even longer. This is a little mom and pop shop. The food here is legit, and homemade. I hear the #4 is the most popular, though I got a beef enchilada plate and it did not disappoint! My boyfriend and I ordered the special #1 : 2 taquitos , 1 taco , and beans - the taquitos were BOMB (side note; they only have shredded beef) still 10/10 the only reason I knocked off a star is b/c I chose my taco to be de papa which to what I'm use to doesn't come with lettuce and tomato inside so I didn't order without and it kinda just overwhelmed the taco and I couldn't taste the papa, I would've ordered it plain so I didn't finish that. Beans were also 10/10. The taquitos come drenched in there delicious avocado sauce but we asked for salsa on the side as well, the red although flavorful wasn't spicy. there are so many overpriced restaurants on olvera st, so i'm glad we found this place. after passing up on a place that sold soft drinks for almost $7, we decided on el rancho grande. cute setup, nice attentive staff and good food for a pretty reasonable price. my only complaint is the portion and temperature of the food. the enchiladas are pretty small and the plate is covered in unmelted cheese which doesn't really melt from the heat of the food. read more

I ordered the number for two taquitos and one enchilada and the number six one taco and one enchilada both come with a salad and beans with cheese. The beans were very delicious as were the enchiladas, the enchilada sauce is definitely what I was expecting as that's the same kind of sauce my mother made not those red sauces that have thick and flavors of cumin and stuff like that I don't like. Just a nice sauce that was smooth and mild, with cheese inside and out and the beans were very very tasty with cheese on top. It's affordable at $10 and it is small for seating but you're greeted right away and has to sit wherever you can find a place. It's informal but it's definitely clean. This is my first time coming here as I've been to olvera school for many years but just decided to try this for a change I'm glad I did. Shout out to the chef in the Dodgers hat. My three friends and I were restaurant hopping on Olivera Street and so weren't ordering much. We came to this establishment and ordered a small horchata and a red pork plate. After receiving our drink and plate (with 4 wrapped hot corn tortillas off the hot stone grill), the chef came to ask how the food was. He came back with our horchata refilled for free. He also smiled at us as he flipped tortillas with his bare hands from the grill. Then he came back again and noticed we were running short on tortillas, so he brought out another four. He also came back again to check in on us and gave us a very spicy chile. Only eat this if you have a high tolerance for spice. The plate itself was delicious and flavorful. Portion wise, there wasn't anything lacking here for $13 (before tip). Come give this place a try, if not for the generous servings of food, then the friendly attentive service!
