Our favorite Mexican resturant hands down! Not only is it easily accessible, service is great, and prices are easy on the wallet. The two for one draft from 5-10 happy hour is great for beer lovers. Soooo I was driving along and this is the first time yelp has let me down. This is not authentic Mexican food. The enchilada sauce resembles spaghetti sauce. I haven't figured that out yet. The salsa is also very tomato tasting with NO flavor. This is gross and I am ashamed that someone else posted they were from TEXAS and liked this place. Chips and coke were good. I have tried this place twice before developing my opinion. It has been consistently good. Very good late lunch. I ordered the Fajita Salad. It was very well seasoned and extremely tasty. The meat is higher quality and better seasoned than the other Mexican restaurants I have frequented on the Northshore. Service was great, but it is not very busy at this time. Eh. That's the best I can say. The food was cooked. Had the quesadilla fajitas. Was not impressed at all too much going on can't pick it up and not overly meaty just clumpy instead of what I call a quesadilla. My wife ordered nachos. That's hard to mess up but yup they did it. The beans were on one side of the plate instead of distributed evenly the guacamole was such a small amount we almost missed it on the lettuce. The salsa tasted like ketchup with onions in it. I had to tear one of my daughters away from mi mamacitas to try this wonderful new restaurant. She was so attached to MiMa's cheese enchiladas...but she agreed that El Rancho's were better, overall, starting with the queso sauce. I love fajitas and these were spectacular. You get so much quality food for the money. Grilled shrimp, onions, peppers, plus another platter that has refried beans, Mexican rice, guacamole, sour cream, homemade tomato salsa, and shredded lettuce. Oh, and their picante sauce is fabulous. The interior is very cheerful and comfortable -- a few TVs for sports fans. (Note to self: potential great spot for watching Saints games!) Our server was very attentive as well. Two for one beers for the adult crowd (er, me.) All in all, a great addition to our go-to Mandeville restaurants. Will be back!!! read more

It's Monday night, 4 tables with customers. Was thinking it was slow here because it's Monday. Sit us down soon as we entered. Guy brought us chips and salsa. 20 minutes later still waiting on waiter. I'm peeking around booth bench and see him coming towards us. He looks dead at me. 10 more minutes and he still hasn't showed his face. Now here we are on a Monday waiting 30 minutes to place an order with only 4 tables in this entire establishment. I get up to see where he went! He is sitting down playing on his phone. REALLY!!!We went ahead and went elsewhere. He didn't mind that we left either. He sit right there on his phone. No apologies. Took my wife for lunch at El Rancho today. We both had the chicken taco salad. Food was great, really fresh. Portion size for lunch was excellent. We will be back for sure! Best Mexican food on the Northshore! We love eating here. We come several times a week and the food is always great and comes out fast! Portions are big and prices are very affordable. Lot's of TV's, great atmosphere, great service. We ask for Juan every time we go; he's awesome! The queso is delicious, the salsa is on point, and the chips are fresh. Went there with friends for lunch on Thursday. Finding authetic Mexican food in Louisiana is not easy and even though I will eat Tex-Mex, I prefer the real deal. I ordered a #1 which includes a chile relleno which came with refried beans and rice. It included a taco with quacamole plate. I had a pork taco. It was okay but not close to the awesome relleno. The portions were huge. I had a rootbeer and my lunch was just a little more than $10 bucks. I ate everything on the relleno plate. And,oh by the way, the chips were tasty unlike so many of these so-called Mexican restaurants. I didn't eat their salsa because of my recent stomach issues but I will test that next time. This is a place you should try if you like authetic Mexican food. I will try some of the other items next time. I will try their tamale next time and let you know. I love pork tamales. read more

Great Mexican food, fresh, good, and well prepared. While I could have had a po boy or jambalaya, I wanted Mexican food. El Rancho was chosen based on yelp reviews and they were right. The decor is authentic mexican kitsch and it s sets the ambience for the journey into Mexican culinary joy. Service is almost instantaneous, so fast that I wonder if they watched me park my car in the large, free parking lot (I hate to pay for parking so places with free parking get a little extra consideration from me). The restaurant offered the usual chips and salsa as an amuse bouche but these chips are thin and slightly crispy, very good and not greasy. You could make a meal with the chips but then you would be missing the best part of El Rancho. I had the chimichanga with beef and it was excellent. No photo is available because after a long day of traveling I was hungry and managed to eat most of my meal before I thought of taking a photo The meat is Haver, slightly spicy and isn't big chunks of fast with a little bit of meat attached. The chimichanga sauce was delicious, with a hint of cheese. Rice and beans were good and weren't smothered with cheese. While I like cheese, some restaurants smother their food with it and all you taste is the cheese. There was a generous serving of guacamole on the plate, as well as sour cream. And the portions were so reasonable that I could eat some tres leches cake for dessert I recommend this place highly. It is in a strip mall but don't let that deter you. The food is good, the place is very clean, the staff exceptionally friendly and fast, and authentic, some speak almost no english. But it is a great place to eat alone or with friends or your kids. read more

First time trying it today and would try again. I had the enchiladas supremas and the chickens,beef,and cheese was good but I didn't really care for the spinach stuffed one. The el ranchos nachos were delicious but next time I'm going to ask for jalapenos on them cuz I like spice. My hubby ordered a burrito supreme but it wasn't a typical burrito wrap. Ugh. Was excited to finally try a Mexican restaurant being new to the area. Two stars because they were friendly and the chips and salsa weren't bad. I enjoy the thicker yellow corn chips, but The Man is not a fan so much. I got plate that has 5 different kinds of enchiladas and they were cold in the center. The cheese one was completely solid and the spinach was extremely salty. The chicken one was tasty, but the cold center was sad. The cold center of a refried bean and then a very plain beef enchilada...sad. It all made me sad. I don't know if we will go back. read more

I have eaten at El Rancho three times, the first two times were good. 2/24/18 was poor in every sense of the word. My wife and I both got the El Rancho because we do not like rice and beans. After reading all the good reviews, I figured this was a place to try. I ordered Tortilla Soup and Shrimp Fajitas. My wife ordered Taco Salad. When the tortilla soup came out, I looked at it a knew it wasn't right. Maybe I've been spoiled on the great tortilla soup that Superior Grill use to serve 10 years ago, but this tortilla soup had NO flavor. The meat was disgusting. Then my Fajitas came out. A large portion with all the sides in good portions. One again, no flavor at all; no salt, no sauce, no cilantro, just no flavor at all. My wife said the same about her food as well. Service was good, The place was clean and nice and comfortable, but the food was just pig food, so if volume is what you want, this is a place for you. I was very disappointed since the reviews were so good, but I will not give this place a 2nd chance. read more

Ordered to go last night as we usually do. We are regulars here and order the same thing every time. Service and prices have always been great, which is why we keep coming back. After last night I don't think we will be returning. All of the food was crammed into tiny containers. It was not made correct. On top of all of that we were significantly over charged and not given a receipt. My boyfriend picked up the order and when he got back with my change, I was livid. This is not good business. You are overcharging people and then purposely not giving receipts so it cannot be proved. They ring your order up on a calculator and whoever was doing it last night Appearently miscalculated. That was our last night ordering from this place. It's sad that service has gone down so much, when this was one of our favorite take out places. I will also be telling my family about this experience. This is not ok. By using a calculator u have no idea how many people you are overcharging and there's no record of anything. I hope by reading this review that u will put a better system in place because you are losing very faithful customers over something that could have been easily avoided. read more

Service was fast and friendly. The time to get our food after we ordered was incredible, under five three minutes. The margaritas were good and didn't taste like it came out of a bottle pre mixed.
