So today was only the second time that I visited but enough to confirm I probably won't be returning. I want to preface this by saying that the staff and service is excellent. The environment was also pleasant. What wasn't though was the food. -pretty important- Maybe I went in with too high of expectations but when the sign is 'El Real' (authentic mexican) You would hope that The food is better than Taco Bell. The menu itself seemed ok although it was missing some key Mexican dishes such as Menudo and posole. Granted they are probably catering to the local demographic which is understandable but not if the name is going to be misleading. The burrito bowl I ordered Literally had less than a tsp of corn and sad sad "pico" the steak was over cooked and hard. my kids had a ground beef quesadilla that was seasoned way too strong and had more beef than cheese . the quesadilla was soft not crunchy or at least firm to grab. fell apart because it was loaded like a mini burrito packed with greasy ground beef Which was probably my fault for not ordering chicken. Also I don't suggest ordering lemonade.. tasted funky. My last gripe was the bowl and plate i received. the bowl literally had a large crack that you could clearly see from the bottom and inside of. The plate was also cracked. I get that Inflation is high and times can be tough but I mean... it was disappointing. My bill was honestly not bad but if i'm going to spend even that much I might as well go to chipotle which is much more generous with serving size and overall food quality/portions. Again I want to emphasize that my server and the staff were very polite and professional. They also seem to be "authentic" as individuals unfortunately the food doesn't reflect that. I highly doubt they make their own meals the way that it goes out to the customers. Again let me end this by saying the food isn't necessarily bad...... Just on the bland side and not very authentic... I actually feel bad for writing this much since the people were so decent I'm just still in the search for decent Mexican. read more

Service was almost non existent and it wasn't even busy. My order and my wife's were swapped. My beef order came with chicken and my wife's chicken entree was beef. In fact, her chicken when it was corrected and returned was cold. Never refilled my drink or even asked if we wanted refills. I've noticed something about Mexican restaurants. When they first open, they're incredible - excellent service, delicious food and great atmosphere. After a few years, things begin to slowly decline; usually starting with the food quality. Then, the service goes south. Finally, the restaurant starts to show its age. Then, the owners give up and shut it down or sell it. El Real is somewhere on that spectrum. When it first opened, it was insanely good. We ate there all the time. In fact, most nights it was so crowded, you couldn't get in without a wait. We hadn't been there in a while and decided to go on Friday evening right before the regular dinner rush. Not very crowded, which was weird, but that's OK. In a nutshell, the service sucked big time. The chips were very hard and had a weird texture. Couldn't hardly get a refill on anything. The food was just kinda meh. Watery-as-hell queso. Everything was meh. Not impressive at all. This is not the El Real that we've experienced in the past, and not something that I look forward to paying for again in the future. Luckily, in this area, it seems like a new Mexican restaurant pops up all the time, so we won't run out of options. It just sucks that this once-awesome place is starting to suck. read more

"El Fake" Was wanting to like the restaurant as its the only one I know of in the area I am about to move to. The El Pastor burrito "Burrito Bravo" was pretty bad. The al pastor was gross smooth cubes with a wonky taste. Drizzled on top was something that tasted kind of like sweet baby rays bbq sauce and cheese. Awful combo. 2 stars since my wife said the chimichanga was "okay". As we walked out, saw they had an 81 on their health inspection. Not going back. read more

This place is wonderful! The food, the drinks, my favorite is the Texas Margarita. I don't go out to eat often but when I do it's El Real!

Last experience here was awesome. This review may be a little biased based upon my taste preferences. My mother-in-law thinks me and my wife should have been born Mexican because of how much we eat Mexican food. We first walked in the Lobby holding our 2 year old and was seated immediately. There was a wait for other larger parties but they sat us before them based on table size availability (I think). Regardless it made me feel blessed. They brought out fresh chips and salsa in a timely manner. Yummy! Our daughter even ate the chips and wanted more. I ordered the beef chimichanga topped with jalapeño cheese. My side items were rice and beans. I demolished everything. I ordered a water that I let my daughter drink and I drank her drink since her meal included a drink of choice. We also were able to use a coupon for those coupon clippers. My wife is pregnant and has atypically been turned away from most foods--she ate the spice out of hers. This wasn't our first time. We are locals, and have been here several times! So that's good news, right? But this time I remembered to document JUST FOR YOU GUYS!! We went for lunch on a Saturday. I got the Burrito Barbacoa with rice and black beans. I was too full to even taste my rice / beans, but as for the burrito... WOW. It was amazing! I will definitely be getting it again. It was perfectly grilled and cheesy with melt in your mouth shredded beef. 10/10. Highly recommend! I got a side of the chipotle creama 9/10 - only disappointment was they charged me $1.59 for it... but it was a wonderful sauce and they should consider serving it with the creama as opposed to the green sauce that came with it. I didn't care for it too much. The hubs got the shrimp chimichanga- he said he would give it a 8/10. Good flavor and cooked well. He's just a little harder to impress lol Oh! I almost forgot! We for the Three Way Dip as an appetizer. Usually it is really good, but this time it was runny and didn't have much flavor. Today's visit we give a 5/10. Needed work on the dip. Service was great - don't remember the fellas name. But he kept my drink full, and at 9.5 months pregnant, that's a huge plus! Overall we rate El Real a 8/10! We got this to-go or else I would have sent the food back. At first bite we thought we had COVID (God forbid) cause we couldn't taste anything. Then we realized it was because they didn't season the food at all. Literally no seasoning on the chicken or steak for the fajitas & the steak was super chewy. Even the onions didn't taste oniony. Still trying to figure out how that happens. The only thing that had any flavor was the corn tortillas and that flavor was incredibly unpleasant. We ended up mixing together the meat, onions, beans, & rice with the fajita toppings and pouring salsa over it to even get some sort of a meal. Not gonna lie, salsa was on point. My first time here. Nothing about our experience impressed me. 4 out of 7 meals our group ordered were prepared incorrectly after requesting specific instructions. One meal was even prepared incorrectly twice. Service was generally friendly, but distracted as they were busy. I ordered the chicken fajita nachos and they were the worst nachos I've ever had, to the point of hilarity. They had a large pile of peppers & onions in the middle, a scoop of grilled chicken down the side, and a small amount of... cheese sauce. Not actual shredded, melted cheese, but cheese sauce. It was more like a salad of tortilla chips, peppers, onions, and chicken, with a light dressing of cheese sauce. Very odd. And they didn't bring any of the sides (lettuce, tomato, sour cream). Happened upon El Real quite by chance. Excellent chicken soup...alot of flavor, tender, juicy chicken and a cup goes a long way. Chimi entree was also very good as was the pick 3 combo (chile relleno not always easy to find). Would have loved to have tried the fried ice cream but no room. Great service, too. This place is always great! We come here for lunch, dinners, or last minutes evening gatherings with guac and drinks. The chunky guacamole is absolutely my favorite!! They add chunks of cheese that just takes it over the top. Even the half portion is a great amount. We've had authentic tacos and grilled chicken and steak, and so far, I have no complaints. I tried this restaurant one afternoon recently hoping for some delicious Tex-Mex food. I read the favorable views and was excited about trying their food. Unfortunately it was not delicious. The salsa has no taste, no zing, no spice, nothing but a bland tomato flavor. The queso dip was just ok, although it was nice and hot when it came out. The chimichanga was inedible. It had grilled chicken and beans for filling, which was bland, and the tortilla was doughy. Tried a few bites and gave up. The rice was actually pretty good. Service was slow, which was puzzling since it was almost 3:00 in the afternoon and the restaurant was not busy. Sadly, The Real Mexican Grill was just Real Bad. read more
