So first time back since they re-opened under new ownership. It looks great inside to start with. Cheese dip was great just needed to be hotter. Same thing on beef nachos. Just wasn't as hot as I was expecting coming out of the kitchen. I really wanted to love this place because it's less than 5 min away from my house, but unfortunately, I am disappointed. I came here around lunch time for some takeout and decided to try the Maria's Sampler which came with a bunch of different stuff so I could try most of it. The sampler comes with 3 flautas, 1 cheese quesadilla, 3 beef sopes, 6 wings and cheese & salsa dip for $15.99. It seemed like a great deal and lots of food which in fact, it was. Unfortunately, they messed up my order. Although it said on the menu the sampler came with 6 wings, they forgot about it so I had to come back for them. When I was finally home with everything I was supposed to get the food was already cold, but I don't it would've tasted any better if it was just made. Everything was bland, and soggy. Service was okay. I got my order fixed quick and the lady I talked to was nice. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back to Maria's. Our server was really friendly - too friendly. I like when service is attentive, polite and prompt, but there is a point when they've lingered far too long, joining in on what should be your own personal meal/date/discussion. The meal was ALL appearances, little substance. A colorful and artfully-arranged salad that did not taste good at all. Dry, overdone salmon, giant, awkward pieces of jicama and mango, and hardly any greens. There were only a handful of other patrons when we went it, but it was painfully quiet and every little noise echoed and bounced around. Halfway through our meal thankfully somebody turned on some quiet music. Service was fine. Waitress was attentive and I had everything I needed. The problem was the food. I ordered a tamale dish . The sauce was ok but the tamales tasted like they were many days ago. They were tough and hard and tasted old. I picked around and ate the parts not dried out and old tasting. I had the 8.99 cheese dip which was good . Just expensive . The meal was $30.00 for one with tip . They were doing music bingo which was fun , but there was a tiny crowd on a Wednesday night. I'm sure it is better on the weekends. I however will not be back. We LOVE this place! This is the second time we've eaten here and it was even better than the first time. The service was great! The food was hot and fresh! Everything we ordered was right! Their regular Guac and Mango Guac is SO yummy! We ordered fajitas and the steak was my husband's favorite and the chicken mine! Both were hot, seasoned well and the portions were great! Excellent food. I went with the simplest dish for lunch, the Speedy Gonzalez. Add the salsa they give you and it was great! Just enough food. I think they should salt their chips, but they were good too. Decided to try the guacamole. Yum! Just the right amount of lime! And the mango margarita was excellent. Went for the Purple Xperience lawn show at the community center across the street and stopped in for a bite while the opening band played. They were very busy and could not seat us straight away and post Covid staffing issues were revealed but Jacky more than made up for it with her excellent service, energetic positive attitude and this "split" salad (2 of them!) to more than make up for it! I had a bad experience recently, I placed a to-go order for one burrito and one quesadilla. I waited for an hour and a half and they forgot my order. I asked for a refund and they said it would take three business days. They did not give me a paper receipt. A week later and I am still waiting for a refund. Darn! I really wanted to like this place since it's so close! I got takeout. My tacos were pretty salty. Brisket was dry. And my empanadas were really sad... More like "EMPTY-NADAs"... So I really wanted to not judge this restaurant by its 3.5 star overall rating and give it a chance, but unfortunately our experience was lackluster and disappointing. The food was bland and nothing to write home about. I tried the Maria's Big Burrito. It had chicken and steak with rice, beans, onions, bell peppers and cheese sauce. It was drizzled with chipotle BBQ sauce and was served with rice. For $11.99 it was a good portion; I ended up eating only half. The meats (chicken & steak) were a mix of dry, chewy pieces and better pieces. While the burrito had a ton of ingredients/filling, the overall taste was drowned by the rice and beans. One thing that I expected to be disappointed by but wasn't were the chips and salsa. The other reviews mentioned that the chips were old and stale. Our basket of chips seemed fresh and crunchy. The salsa was fresh and we could see the small chunks of fresh onion and cilantro. The service was ok. We were greeted promptly and our orders were taken pretty much as soon as we were ready. Other than that though, our server was difficult to find. While he did check on us, when he wasn't at our table he seemed to be gone. The feeling we had when we left, was MORE 3.5 stars!We did lunch yesterday, first visit to this location. There was only 2 sections seated, when we arrived and through our visit. 1 table with 3 people and a table with 6-8 men (who were sat and eating when we arrived). Based on the LACK of customers, our expectations were to have an attentive & refilling visit. That's where my SUBTRACTION came in at, the SERVICE. We ordered fountain drinks, when the waitress came. The drinks and food came out timely, fresh and good. It was the SERVICE afterwards. We WEREN'T checked on once, once we got our food. As I stated above, the restaurant was NOT busy, there were 2 other tables other than ours. Like, the waitress was OUT OF SIGHT 95%+ of the time we were there. Our fountain drinks weren't filled. We weren't asked how was our meal, if anything else was needed until AFTER we asked the male waiter for our to-go boxes. We had to flag down a male waiter we eventually seen servicing the table of the 6-8 guys, for a to-go box. We waited a bit, once we spotted our waitress at the kiosk to FLAG her, to get our ticket. At that point, my sister and I both were irritated, disappointed and just wanted to be about our day. You can choose from usuals like chicken and ground beef, or you can get a little more exotic/fancier with fish, shrimp and carnitas which is the route I went. I asked to make two on corn tortillas and one on flour. I also asked for no onion. I ended up with my three tacos covered in onions and they mixed up my tortillas. Our chips were stale and when we told the hostess she looked at us like we were crazy. So we continued to complain about it, until she bought us a new fresh batch and wouldn't you know that those new batch of chips were amazing! The food was ok, decor was Ok, margaritas was Ok... the waitress was cool and some dude who might have been the manager was on point as well! Where do I even begin with this place? Maria's is tucked away in the Publix shopping center of Auburn. The wife and I pulled into the parking lot around 5:30 ( dinner time ) and not a dingle car was in the parking lot. When we entered, we were the only people in there. The wait staff was at a booth in deep conversation..perhaps they were making bets as if someone would actually dine there tonight. The decor is eclectic,meaning it looks like they really couldn't decide on a theme,do they threw a bunch of stuff together in hopes it would look inviting. Its like if you slammed 3 or 4 lands of Epcot center together all into one. The menu prices seemed a tad high for what the establishment is. The menu was pretty limited as well. We ordered our food and were served chips that resembled blisters of cardboard that you were able to dip in a sauce that seemed like it expired in 2014. It took a while to get our food, which is weird since we were the only ones in there. Maybe the staff had a poker game going on in the kitchen, who knows. While we waited we were treated to the sounds of Abba on the speaker system, because hey, when you think Mexican food, you think of the sounds of Dancing Queen. Our food tasted like it was made by a bachelor that tore open some cheap ready made food and three it in a microwave for a minute or two. Our waitress never came to check on us ( must have been up in that poker game) and a different person gave us the check after we waited and waited and waited when our food was done. The whole time not one single other person walked in to dine. Maybe this place us a drug front, or a gambling front, who knows. We decided we would give this new place a try since we really haven't found that great casual Mexican place to have a meal at in Dacula. Unfortunately this is not the place. Too bad. Positive: Our server was amazing. She was sweet and engaging. Wanted us to have a happy experience. Did not catch her name, but she was the only one working. Negative: The host that greeted us tried to sit us at a booth with a dirty seat. The booth next to it had a crooked table that no one bothered to straighten. These little things count. Later I observed a gentleman come and wipe down the table we were supposed to sit at. He straightened the other table. Didn't bother to notice the sticky brown goo on the seat. No one bothered to ask us why we chose to move ourselves to a table when we had asked for a booth. That tells me they don't care. Food: The beans are ok. But I can open a can at home and have ok beans. Gotta do better with these. Chicken was dry and flavorless. Ground beef in the Tacos was awful. They didn't get eaten. The Tamale was way too much wrapper and not enough filling. But no one at these places makes a good Tamale. Drinks: Margarita was so weak I didn't finish it. I stopped halfway and switched to a bottle of beer. If they made killer margaritas, I'd come back and find something on the menu to eat. They didn't take the price off my bill either. Summary: They're in a tough location that isn't seen from the road. If they don't offer awesome food and killer drinks they won't make it. I hope they can get it together. read more

Alright guys... this is going to be a long one... My husband and I frequented this location before it turned into Maria's Tex Mex. I am sad to see "Tex Mex" as I am genuinely in love with REAL Mexican food. Starting off Victor, my friend, I think you need to figure out how to get better servers in the door. I know it's hard, but this is the only way to bring business up. The servers are slow and they are not attentive. Thank god for Victor coming to refill drinks and check on us because the girl never did. Mind you, it was 2pm and sloooowww. We must have been the only folks in the joint. The food is decent. I usually order a chimichanga or fajita nachos because I love things smothered in cheese. My husband orders the carnitas. My food is always OK, but My husband and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the carnitas. It's the best thing on the menu. The rice is always good. The beans are bland and dry at times. The salsa is great and the chips are thin. The flan is just god awful. I hate to say it, but it needs work. The timing of the food coming out is also slow. That needs to be adjusted. It's very slow. I recommend looking into more authentic Mexican cuisine for some items if you want to update the menu again. Ending comment is to give this place a try for the carnitas alone. The best in the area! Local Mexican restaurant recommended by a friend. Clean cantina feel, friendly staff, variety of unique and delicious menu items to choose from. We were warmly greeted by the staff upon our arrival and felt very comfortable during our meal. We had the freshly prepared "Maria's" Guacamole, Chicharron De Queso, and Brisket Burrito.
