Knew they were closed awhile back. Saw they reopened and decided to have lunch there. Currently under new owner/management. They renovated the place, looks alot brighter and cleaner than before. It made me a little sad not seeing the previous waitresses when we walked in. They were always so cheerful. Price went up for the food. We went with our usual, mini paisa. Food is still good. The steak, pork skin and avocado was a smaller portion. We liked how they have the hot sauce ready in little individual containers. Seems like they serve breakfast now as well. Oh. My. Goodness. I was blown away with my one time visiting here. I was in search of some Bandaja Paisa. And I found heaven. I really did. The service was excellent & the food was even better!!!! The garlic sauce for me was the game changer. I was practically drinking it hahah I enjoyed my meal here and I'm excited to visit again and try their $7 lunch special that everyone was ordering. Im going to give it 3 stars being that there aren't that many Colombian restaurants around we decided to give it a try because we were missing some traditional foods. Upon sitting we were greeted fairly quick and ordered our drinks. After that service went super slow after. We ordered the Colombian empanadas and they were super delicious only thing missing for us was the hot sauce that they forgot to bring after we asked. We then ordered our meals a kids chicken grilled breast , a kids steak plate , a soup and two bandeja paisas. The chicken breast had good reviews from my kid, the kids steak and fried did not have good reviews. The Sancocho was missing flavor and the bandejas paisa had mixed reviews. One person said it was just fine and ate it all and the other couldn't continue eating the meat as it did not have flavor nor did it taste well cooked. They only ate the rice and beans. Overall, as one of the few place we've that serves Colombian food I would stick with my 3. I would back to order the empanadas but that's it. Pricing was typical and parking lot is huge. The wait was pretty long but the food is fantastic. It reminds me of being in Colombia. The rice had a hint of coconut flavor to it, the beans were really good and my breaded chicken was cooked to perfection. Whenever I come to Orlando I'll def come here. You can tell the administration changed! I had stopped going because of the awful reheated food with tons of grease. Gave the restaurant another try today and to my surprise, it was delicious! I asked if the chef was the same and that's when I found out it had new administrators. The food was savory and looked fresh! Came in for a steak sandwich to go. It took over 35 minutes wait!!! And there was only 1 other customer and they were dine in and came after I placed my order!!! While I waited I asked for a can of coke and they wanted $2.40 for a small 12oz. can soda!!! Crazy !!! Then the sandwich didn't come out as ordered!!! Location is not the best and neither is the inside however the food and service makes up for all of that! My husband and I went on a Tuesday night around 8, service was very prompt from the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out. Easily one of my new favorite restaurants. The food was seasoned perfectly, brought out in a reasonable amount of time. We had sorrullo and empanadas colombianas as an appetizer. People that were walking in and ordering were getting their drinks in less than 5mins.. and like 10 mins later got their food... what was the problem in the kitchen? 1st - hard to find initially. It's in the corner of the shopping plaza (if you are facing Big Lots, to your immediate right). My visit was just after noon on a Sunday. Overall very good. Slight down from 5 stars because the table I was sitting at had that sticky busy restaurant top but it was not dirty; just should be washed down a little better. With that said; food & service was great. Had the bistec encebollado (steak & onion sandwich), onions could have been cooked a little more to my liking but still tasted great. Roaches & good food? Half way done with our plates & already semi grossed out from the sticky table surface, a roach literally jumps out of nowhere onto our table. A huge roach just sitting there, I jumped out of my seat and my husband pushed the roach off the table with a napkin. A young latin waitresses comes running over and apologizes then chases the roach away from us. She actually then left to the back and never got rid of the roach so we knew it was lurking under someone else's table (pet maybe?). It gets better. The waitress comes back and tries to make sense of it all with it being summer and the door blah blah blah but the she says we feel so bad about this is there anything we can get for you? Desert? So I asked for a bottled water. We did not eat anymore of our food. 5 mins later she comes out apologizing again with the check. Full price ($50/2 meals) + they charged me for the bottled water! I paid , left and now I feel disgusted. $55 for dinner with a roach! They said that next time we come the meal is on the house... as if I'm ever going to go back there LOL. I haven't visited El Rey De La Papa in years, but recently went back and was pleased to see that their staff is still providing the same exceptional service and attention to detail years later. My husband ordered the smaller portion of the Bandeja Paisa, which was still massive! Everything was delicious, as expected. I wasn't as hungry, so I ordered the Octopus Salad appetizer as my meal, and found everything to be really well seasoned. We topped our meal off with a delicious flan, and were in and out of the restaurant in about an hour. Would recommend to anyone, and will make an effort to consider this restaurant more often when thinking of where to eat in Winter Garden! read more

Spent my Holidays vacation in FL and of course I can't leave the area without going to the one and only favorite place, El Rey de la Papa y el Paisa. Their Staff very attentive and helpful. Your food always come fresh and good temperature. Oh the Trifongo is a must for me. As always I tried the fried fish with the trifongo and my husband the churrasco with sweet plantains and a salad. The special of the day was the octopus salad; which if I knew that before ordering I would ask for it first because it was so good and plentiful for both. Remember their portions are always plentiful. Less than a week later I went over again and tried the breaded skirt steak and again with the trifongo, it is made is such special way, so yummy. Do no eat dessert this time, but with eyes closed I recommend the 3 leches. Was so looking forward to this place. Some of the best food is found inside these little hole in the wall restaurants. This was not one of them. The food all looked amazing but it was not great. The ropa vieja is a favorite dish for us at home, this dish was so salty it was inedible. It's hard to mess up a skirt steak, but this one was cut so thin and it was dry. Plaintains and tostones were also incredibly dry. The garlic shrimp was really good and the rice and beans were good, both black and red. The fresh lemonade was good as well. The food looked exact like the pictures and tasted better than it looked. Sometimes you get a craving of rice and beans and nothing less will suffice. Authentic Latin food with a strong fundamentals game, offers huge portions, done freshly, with crisp plantains and mounds of arroz con carne. I tried one of their platters with chiccarron, flat iron steak, avocado, rice, beans, sunny side egg and chorizo (is there chorizo homemade? best I've had). It sounds like I asked for these additions, I added nothing. This was just one of their dishes. I enjoy getting a taste of home, but generally most hispanic eateries, leave quality and service to be desired, El Rey De La Papa differed where it matters. They offered warm service, with one waitress and one busser/runner taking care of rest; playing to a full room with charm, affability and graciousness. Finally, a local place for comida to venture to that doesn't have their entire menu in warmers and heat lamps, with stale plantanos to insult. Skip the arepas and loaded potato and have a plato of just about everything else. And most importantly, go hungry you'll leave topfull. P.S. Update 02/05/2016 : After consideration and giving the restaurant a 2nd chance of redemption I decided to place an order for pick up, and while picking my order I was confronted by the new lady manager "again" who in her exact words said to me "very cute the review you left on yield, you did a great job" my response to that was I did not leave you a nice review, I wrote what happened so that you as the new manager can improve and do a better job next time in those types of situations; her response was: "I disagree, I did apologize even tho I didn't have to, but that's ok, very cute the review and you know you are welcome to come back here or if you don't that's fine too, I think you left the comment to give a bad name to our restaurant but anyway I don't have to give you any explanations". I was completely in shock, not for what she had to say to me which obviously bothered her in a personal level and not professional at all, but I was in shock for the lack of education, professionalism, touch, managements skills, and most importantly customer service; my response to her was only "wow" because wasting time and words to try to make her understand the severity of her actions and approach seems just pointless. Unfortunately that was not enough for her to let that hate go away, she had to make a last comment while I was walking out with my food on my hands, and I quote in her exact words: "make sure you hold your food it still, I don't want you to drop it" then she laughed; and I could see on some of the customer's faces sitting down their shock on their faces; lucky for her, my education doesn't allow me to go that low down to her level and I just walked away, with the food I had just paid which I must add I had to throw away because It looks like a blast of salt was added on top of everything so there was no way to eat it, I would hate to think it was done on purpose but fortunately I don't care because the only thing I can thank her is that I now understand sometimes 2nd chances are good, so that we can realized we were right on the first place. I will never go back to El Rey de la Papa Restaurant, and I truly believe it is a shame, because it was one of my favorite Latin restaurants for years, but the level of disrespect from this establishment and their staff to me, has no logic or presentation, it is just the worst experience ever at a restaurant I no longer love. I was so aggravated that I went to the restaurant to talk to the manager (now the owner's wife I believe) and still with my cellphone connected to them and explained her my concerns and disappointment with their awful new and terrible customer service but she did not believed I was on hold for so long so I asked her to pick up their phone and surprise, it was me in the other line saying hello on the other line right in front of her.....she did not apologize, gave me the "ugh I have to deal with this" look, and said "well it wasn't me who took the call" I told her that I knew it wasn't her that the whole point of me driving all the were there was to address to her "the restaurant manager" that I am very disappointed with their new customer service since I'm a regular customer of them, and right after that all she said was: so......is there anything I can help you with?, and of course I said no thank you and have a good night and walked away. Not I only wont ever go back, but I am extremely sad that a place that used to be so inviting it's now a place where you pass by and said ugh they don't care about their customers or at least "me" as a customer. Again, this happened 3 times already, and in another occasion when I actually got a hold of someone and placed my order, when picking it up I had to hear to all the drama between the family talking about all the mistakes they were making with the orders and tables and blaming each other and on top of that, I had to hear one of the servers (now one of the owner's daughters I think) saying to the other one don't pick up the phone while I was right in front of them, I mean it's understandable that if you are really busy and behind in the actual restaurant that you don't answer calls but DONT let your customers hear all this drama and not caring talking.
