The service was good they were a little busy with take out but they still managed to make us feel welcomed. The ambiance was authentic to the culture loved the Honduran flags on the walls super humble and cute. I purposely waited some time to visit El Rey Del Sur just to make sure they got their new business kinks out. I must say as a Salvadoran I'm beyond thrilled that there's finally a pupuseria in town. We came in on a Sunday afternoon that seemed a little busy. We ordered two pupusas each just in case they weren't up to par. I also ordered horchata to drink which was probably one of the best horchatas I've ever had. There was a bit of a wait for the food to come out but that really only meant that they do make their pupusas fresh to order. They were completely worth the wait!! This review is for my VEGETARIANS!!! I really liked El Rey del Sur. It's one of the few Hispanic/Latin American/Central American joints around here that has good vegetarian options. I got one pupusa with cheese and one with bean and cheese. I much preferred the bean and cheese ones. They're actually flavorful. Put the Cole slaw and salsa on top too! I also got the baleadas regular, which simply had beans, cheese, cream and avocado for $1.50 extra. I really liked these too! Definitely NOT too greasy. I would probably get one or two of these for lunch one day. Overall I liked this place and I'll probably try again. Loses a star because the pupusas were really really greasy. Like sticking to the paper greasy! Maybe this is how they're traditionally served, in which case forgive me because I've never had them before. But a tad too greasy for me to have gotten 2 pupusas. Also loses a star because they forgot my second baleada. I would have gone back but they close at 8 and we picked up 10 mins before closing. Editing to mention the PLANTAINS!! Placed an order on UberEats and an hour goes by. UberEats delivery guy calls to say the owner sees him but doesn't want to deal with the order because "he's closed." What kind of service is that? They left the order sitting for over an hour so they didn't have to deal with it. They have an option of rejecting orders from the jump. I went to El Rey del Sur today and it was spectacular. I had the yuca with chicharrón, a pupusa, and my mom (who is Honduran and picky with her Honduran food) had the sopa de res (almost like a beef strew). It was all delicious! We chatted with the owner who was a lovely person and told us how his family is helping him run the business. Really excited to have this in the Heights and looking forward to seeing more people there! They just opened within the past month or two! read more

I heard these guys are the best and YES I'm in love!!!Stopped by today and got two of the chicken and two of the pork.
