My order took an hour to be ready, to top it off everything was completely wrong! When I told the lady helping us she just said I had to speak to someone else because she couldn't do anything about it and in fact was rude about it. So I spoke to another lady I told her that I just wanted to let them know so this doesn't happen again with future orders, she was extremely rude with an attitude, not once apologized or offered to fix my order. Terrible costumer service never going there again and I encourage you to do the same. I pass by this place nearly every day on my way home. In fact, it's walking distance. So I finally made the stop, after 5 years. It's right across the street from the Santa Ana location of The Old Ship British pub. I ordered outside to go. (There is a sit-down dining area inside.). There is no pricing on the a la carte menu, which is a bunch of painted signs in the windows. You need to ask. Combo plates are priced. The menu is, to my mind, disorganized and not helpful. Service was painfully and ridiculously slow. And, no, they weren't busy. I had to repeat my order twice, as they said they had misplaced it. A couple of tacos shouldn't take 20 mins to prepare. The carne asada taco was fine, but nothing you can't get at most any Mexican restaurant or food truck. The carnitas meat in my other taco was over-cooked and dry. I threw half away, and I rarely toss food, believing if it's on my plate, I finish it. One of the worst carnitas tacos I've tried. The bean burrito was fine, but is charging an additional $1 for cheese reasonable? Of course I don't know the price of the bean burrito, as it wasn't listed (nor did it say there wasn't cheese). Rincón Chilango is literally walking distance from the house. A chilango is somebody from Mexico City, so this is a "Mexico City Corner" joint. There are so many things there I never heard of that I always get the next unknown item. They are all some kind of tortilla or masa or fried object that has some meat and a sauce right? But they are all pretty damned tasty. You can get a taco or burrito or tostada, but you can get that anywhere--try something else. Last time we got a tlacoyo and a pombaso, since we didn't know what the hell they were. Honestly, I can't even remember what they were, except they are sabroso. We passed on the soft drink named Boing which certainly looks collectible. Once a long while back I got a carnitas torta here, which is actually one and half tortas. Yeah, the 1/2 is a half-sandwich crammed into one styrofoam container to fill it to the edges. It reminds me that at so many of these places (Super Antojito or Taqueria El Amigo are other small but consistent joints nearby), you get more food, and particularly more meat than anybody really wants. You could feed a family of four on two chicken burritos in this town. Value, value, value! This is a glorified walk-up joint with a small dining room to shiver in during cold weather. It's got a juke box and TV, dutifully competing, and maybe an electric space heater. The food is tasty, fresh stuff, all of it. It's inside atmosphere is a somewhat shoddy 3rd world, but it's got clean and comfortable built-in tables and benches in front, so it's good for a quick lunch on a sunny day. I think everybody who eats here walks here from south of 17th street. You'll hear little to no English spoken. As we notice more frequently in the small family Mexican restaurants it is about family fun. Almost every table has at least 1 or 2 small children eager to get out of their chairs and play. And they do. The rack of vending machines with plastic toys or Disney appliqués is a clear give-away to the clientele. One machine has a vending machine that dispenses plastic orbs with balloons. This was more interesting when we saw a dad go over and hook the balloon on to a nozzle which then inflated the thing. That was a made-in-Mexico machine for sure. Here, if it doesn't take batteries, it isn't a toy. Stuck behind a door on the way to the kitchen is a tall cabinet with every conceivable type of pre-packaged candy, chocolate or gum, most of them Mexican. It's amazing what "entertainment value" a little joint like this has for their loyalists. They also have gorditas, alabambres and huaraches, including some stuffed with tocino and tinga. He said why not go across the street to El Rincon Chilango. I was skeptical at first but decided to give it a shot. The place looked unkept and somewhat dirty. We ordered tacos, something that is a staple in all taquerias. I ordered asada(beef) and lengua (beef tongue) and lets just say I got ripped off. The tacos were tasteless. No seasoning. My friend said it tasted like all he was eating was tortilla. Later that day he said he was feeling nauseated just thinking about the tacos. The aguas were mediocre at best. The service was awful... My table was dirty with food and salt and even the seats. The service was not good. I ordered the Enchiladas with beans.... The beans had no salt. they where burnt on the bottom and they where dry. the chicken was frozen and dry. The chicken was marinated, but it did'nt make a difference. I used to come here a few years back and it was great but my how times have changed. I had dinner with my mom here last night and I can't tell you what a bad experience I had. I don't know what made me SICKER, the not-so-fresh ingredients used in my guanabana water or the hard as rock tortilla of my huarache, the food was just gross it made my stomach hurt and I got sick from it (i will spare you the details) Overall, the food was poor quality and the service was not much better. Food has been for the most part consistent, except for a time we got tacos in barely warmed tortillas that kept crumbling as we ate. Definitely was not too happy about that given the amount of time we had to wait. The wait time has never been good. Every time I have been here, the wait time exceeds what a reasonable cook-to-order time is. Also, I have had to wait for an unreasonable amount of time to get my check. The staff is somewhat nice but pretty inattentive. This place is fairly clean, but it can be better. I think they have a sister location in Anaheim, and that place is better than this one in terms of food and service. Great authentic Mexican food! Customer service is always great. They do speak English, so ordering won't be an issue. The restaurant is small and very clean. Sometimes they do take a little longer to bring out your food but that's only because they make everything as fresh as possible. Also, their natural flavored waters are very good. I live right by this place and I don't know why I haven't been going here more. The green sauce is great as it is not too runny and full of flavor. The cecinas meat is delicious. The carnitas meat is bomb. If you eat there they give you chips and a great salsa that is on the spicy level. The burritos are big and the rice and beans are quality. The service has been friendly every time I went. This place looks kinda ghetto when looking at it from the street, but the more I go here I start liking it more and more.
