Tito's hard shell tacos are unmatched. They are delicious and packed with flavor. The tacos de res are a favorite but sometimes I'll get the papa tacos. Those have a little too much potato but are still quite good. With the salsa and carrots it's outstanding. My husband has commented that their tacos al vapor are amazing, which I'll have to try on my next visit. Service is quick and luckily I've never had a visit where it was super packed with people. I've been on weekends and weekday nights. I wish they had drink stations where you can serve yourself but they have them behind the counter so you can serve yourself. The inside is like your basic taco place, there's no frills but that's okay because you come strictly for the tacos! read more

The customer service is excellent, super friendly, and really fast. The tacos are always tasty . This place has been around for a very long time. I remember coming here back in my teens, and it is still just as good. There are two Tito's locations in Santa Ana, but this one is definitely my favorite. I have only tried the tacos al vapor jere here so far, and they never disappoint. read more

Came to Tito's La Especial, my old reliable, and as always, it did not disappoint. The food is consistently amazing--the carne de res tacos just melt in your mouth, and the salsa is chef's kiss, perfectly complementing every bite. Truly some of my favorite tacos around. It may seem like a hole-in-the-wall, but that's part of the charm--this place is a hidden gem. I love it so much and always leave satisfied. The workers here always greet you hello and goodbye and are bilingual for folks nervous about not speaking Spanish. I recommend plate #2 with carne de res and upgrade to crunchy tacos, so yummy!! AND order a nachos with cheese and jalapeños for the table to share. read more

Just went with my mom yesterday for tacos de papa. Let me tell you that you not be disappointed they are so yummy just like I remember since I was a kid! The potato, cheese, guacamole, tomato, salsa to your liking, the pickled carrots the Jamaica. I miss it today lol!! read more

We saw good reviews for crunchy tacos here so decided to try it out. We ordered two with shredded beef and one with potatoes. We also tried the Tostada Especial and a taco El vapor with shredded beef that they claim is their specialty. The crispy tacos were indeed crunchy, but they were hard crunchy. Not enjoyable. The shredded beef was ok, with average seasoning. Nothing to rave about. Potatoes in the potato taco were also barely seasoned. The tacos el vapor were soft but with a scant amount of filling only...rather disappointing. Lastly the tostada was like more of the hard tacos. We love venturing to holes-in-the wall and were hoping this would be a hidden gem. But our meal was uninspiringly mediocre and this place ended up being just a blip in our adventure to be forgotten. read more

If your looking for really good steamed tacos this is the place. The steamed tacos are so good, hot and fresh. The nachos were also amazing, I ordered mine with no beans. Mexican food is my favorite and I've eaten a lot of it. One thing I've never gotten to experience is Tacos al Vapor. I was actually not even aware of their existence until I was in OC and made to go to Tito's La Especial (not to be confused with the other more famous Tito's). Located on the corner of 17th and Ross, Tito's La Especial is tough to miss. They have a parking lot in the back but it can be a tight fit. We came through the rear and the order counter is just ahead. The menu has all your favorites but the reason to come here is the Tacos Al Vapor, so I got a couple of those and a tostada. You'll pick your food up at the order counter. The food was awesome. Tacos Al Vapor are steamed so it's like eating a mini tamale. Unique, filling and delicious. Another standout was their beans. I would have loved to have taken a can or six of those home. They tasted homemade. You also get tasty marinated carrots on the side but I couldn't finish them because I was already full. If you're looking for amazing atmosphere or incredible service, this isn't it. Tito's La Especial is a great place for no frills Mexican food with an item you won't find at many other places. If I'm ever in the area again I'd certainly return. Recommended! read more

If you are looking for a hole in the wall with tacos Al vapor (steamed tacos) look no further. Tito's is old school and you see same faces working there from 25+ years ago. Super nice guys, always working hard. They have a small menu, their Al vapor tacos being the star. They offer shredded beef, potato, or bean tacos. All are so good. They come with a double corn tortilla. I like getting the combo plate because I LOVE their beans! They are refried and fried again!!!! Yum! I also like their hard shell shredded beef tacos. Don't forget to ask for extra pickled carrots, they are delicious. I don't visit Tito's too often because it gets expensive. I think tacos are priced at over $3 each. Definite 10/10. Recently had combination #4. Comes with 2 tacos al vapor and also a tostada and sope. Also with refried beans, rice , and pickled carrots. Perhaps I came at the perfect time, just before the lunch rush. But everything tasted so fresh and made to order. Surprisingly the best thing for me aside from the bomb tacos al vapor were the beans. Those beans were glistening with lard. Love the hot sauce it comes with too. If I'm back in the area, going to be hard pressed to eat something else. Be warned though - it's a lot of food and if you finish it, will be left in a food coma all day long. read more

This review is going to be for all of you who just want your food to go. I order here on the regular, I would say once every other week. The tacos are packed in a way that even if you eat them 30 minutes after you pick it up they will be hot enough to burn your fingers. I am lucky to live right around the corner from here so when I call to order, I leave my house about 3 minutes later and by the time I get there, they are ready. So how do I know about the time frame? Sometimes I get home and realize I need to do something like laundry or like last time I entered through my backyard and noticed my plant looking a bit droopy. I put my food inside and started water 1 plant and then figured oh I should water the rest so it was about 20 minutes. Afterward I went to wash my hands got all settled to eat and the phone rang another 10 minutes finally dig in and literally burning my fingers on the tacos. If you are in the area call ahead take them home and eat them in the comfort of your home. This place is totally no frills which why I usually take them home. Tacos, beans and don't sleep on their Nachos a la especial, nacho cheese all over and their delicious beans with jalapeños, oh so good. Service is always great! read more

I've been coming here (local spot) since I was a teen. When in the area it's a must stop me me. The tables are always clean, friendly staff, and the food always looks delicious. I was introduced to this place several years ago by a friend and I've gone back many times since! Their unique way of doing tacos is so different from the more traditional tacos seen served by the various taco trucks and restaurants throughout Socal! There are not too many places where you can get tacos al vapor but its a really tasty and different take on your regular taco! The taco shell has a great texture thanks to it being steamed and the shredded beef inside that has been cooked with chilies is always flavorful and juicy! They give you carrots and lettuce if you want to add them to your tacos and you don't really need to add anything else to them as you get enough flavor from the meat and shell already! Everything comes out quick a few minutes after you order so the wait time is short and sweet! On their menu, they also have burritos, tortas, and other dishes as well that are also probably tasty too! I highly recommend coming here or to their other location also in Santa Ana if you want to try a unique take on tacos that you probably haven't had before! read more

Took the kids to Tito's today for lunch and it was so bomb! We each had a hard shell potato taco, a hard shell beef (juicy and flavorful) and then I ordered a chicken torta to share. The torta is huge! The kids had their first bite of the potato taco and their eyes rolled back with how good it was lol I love supporting small family businesses and I love tacos! So I'm happy we found this spot. We also ordered 6 more tacos to bring home to my husband who was working. Oh!! I left out that she had said "I noticed you payed your tab already". Clearly she thought "payed tab we got what we needed now leave". I specifically told her I wanted the entire transaction refunded so we could start over, and SHE chose to handle it differently. That was THEIR mistake, not mine. And the worst part? Instead of pulling me aside privately and explaining what happened, the manager brought this up IN FRONT OF THE FAMILY I WAS WITH. I used to work for this business and let me tell you they literally per prepare their tacos a day or 2 in advance and store them in the fridge and then heat them up in microwave to get them Ready for a order it's horrible people need to know the truth! There very stingy with condiments and there management/ staff are very up tie , I literally got let go there for being one minute late Yes ONE MINUTE LATE I kid you not !! I have been to Tito's several times when I'm in the area, and I feel like they have been consistently good each and every time. I always have their Carne Asada and some beans. Love the flavor and they serve with some great radishes and onions on the side. I also love the variety of salsas to go on everything, i suggest when you are in the are to check this place out. read more
