We pulled into Papa Dubi's around 1:45, not realizing the kitchen closes at 2:00. We apologized and said we'd come back another time because we didn't want to be "those people", but the staff insisted it was no problem at all. That alone made a great first impression. We ordered quickly and went with the Cajun Sampler--Red Beans and Rice, Gumbo, Chicken & Sausage Jambalaya, and Crawfish Sauce over Rice. We also added hushpuppies and boudin. Every single thing was spot‑on delicious. Each sampler dish had the perfect balance of rice to main ingredients, and the flavors were rich, authentic, and comforting. The boudin was the real deal, and the hushpuppies were just as good. Brandon was our server, and he couldn't have been more friendly or accommodating, especially considering how close it was to closing time. For being this far from Louisiana, Papa Dubi's is absolutely doing it right. We'll definitely be back.

Everyone was super friendly, shout out to our server Brandon. Friendly and willing to engage in my favorite activity (small talk!) lol. To the food. I have an extensive list of food allergies and intolerances. So I will always review a place where I can find a good meal and not get sick or worse. I had the burger po'boy and it was great! Perfect ratio of burger to bread. The fries were pretty standard Sysco fair but I like their seasoned fries so all good. Hubs had the catfish lunch meal and he enjoyed it. Ordered the boy the crab cake meal and he loved it. Also got the 4 sides option as part of our to-go order - gumbo, red beans & rice, jambalaya, and etouffee. I hate soupy rice & beans, so I was happy to see that these were done right. They also tasted great. I wasn't able to try the other items (pesky seafood allergy) but they also looked good and smelled delicious. Definitely see us making a day trip in the future to eat here again.

One piece of advice, is avoid the baked beans. They're a bit overly sweet. And to me baked beans should have some bacon in them or something like that. These disappointed a bit. But the barbecue is phenomenal. And to be honest, the thing that really stole the show was at noon they play the national anthem and everybody stands to face the flag, I love the patriotic atmosphere and you can tell that this place is run by people who care. Not do they only put pride in their food, but you can tell that they have pride in their country and I'm coming back just for that reason alone!

This is the best BBQ pork that I've eaten at a restaurant, succulent, delicate, smokey, flavorful, esthetically appealing, and it makes me wish that we had something like this in the Atlanta area. I love fried okra, when it's cooked properly, and with that comes critical feedback; their version reminds me of how my grandmother made her fried okra (and that's the standard I use to measure all others by.) The mixed greens had a slight hint of smoky ham hock, probably could have benefitted from a little more salt, but I understand that some people have to watch their sodium intake so I bet the restaurant leaves that up to the customer. Our server was a delight, very smiley and cheery, welcoming, etc. Inside, it feels like they have preserved history and married it to classy modernity. The next time I visit Albertville, this will be on the to-do list. Keep up the good work, folks!

Events concluded somewhat early on Saturday and I wanted to make the most of my drive out that way, so I decided to drive a little farther to give Gordo's Way a try. TL;DR -- I'm gonna be making more special trips to Albertville. This restaurant is located on Main Street in Albertville. It's on the corner/end of the street. Street parking is limited but there's a large lot across the street that I took advantage of. They appear to only be open Friday - Sunday so plan accordingly! A few picnic tables are arranged in front of the entrance. The restaurant is small with room for maybe ~25 seats on the inside. You order at the counter. The menu is diverse with a lot of authentic Mexican and Central American dishes. Big focus on birria -- not just tacos, but pizza and ramen too. Service was exceptional! The young woman who greeted me at the counter was so friendly and nice. She immediately caught on it was my first visit and she graciously offered to explain the menu to me. She was exceedingly thorough - more than I truly needed but I didn't mind because she was so sweet - and she knew her stuff! If you're new to this cuisine at all, Gordo's Way would be a great place to explore because the staff will take care of you. They have several containers of aguas frescas, to include cucumber pineapple, horchata, orange pineapple, etc. I knew I wanted one but couldn't pick -- they kindly offered me a sample. The cucumber pineapple was perfect -- delightfully refreshing, not too sweet but not too cucumbery either, and so that was my choice. I ordered two birria tacos with a side of rice and beans to accompany my beverage. This was actually my first time trying birria. I've waited to try it because I wanted to try it somewhere I was confident would do it well -- reviews led me here. I wasn't disappointed. It was delicious: the beef was chewy, savory, succulent, so moist; the onions were crunchy but unobtrusive; the tortilla was thin and crispy; and the consommé for dipping was perfectly umami and surprisingly not insanely messy. The only thing that didn't completely knock my socks off was the rice. It wasn't bad, just kind of standard. The beans were, I think, charro beans -- definitely pintos, not refried. They were smoky and tender. Go out of your way to Gordo's Way -- you will not regret it.
