It's been a while since I did a visit to this location but it's still good. Over the course of time I've been here several times now. The most recent was a large group that was coming and they were extremely accommodating in getting us all seated and orders placed. It didn't take long for the food for the orders to come out either. I normally get street tacos when I come here but I got the Chipotle Enchiladas this time and they were excellent! I has Asada (Steak) for my meat for the dish. It was great! I haven't been to this El Rinconsito location since high school, but I am surprised it isn't visited as much as it should be! My friends and I were in the mood to eat after a late night out at Cyclops Dome at Tacoma Dome during Thanksgiving weekend. There aren't many places in Tacoma that are open late, so we were glad that El Rinconsito didn't close until 3AM because we didn't like the other options we had in mind. There weren't too many people inside when we arrived. It is pretty spacious inside, and the tables/booths are big. After our group of four placed and paid for our food, we went to pick a table and fill up our fountain drink cups. By the time we all sat down, the first plate of food arrived! Super-fast service and the portions are BIG! I was a bit intimidated by how big the plate was. I ordered the Burrito Plate (asada) and it hit the spot. It wasn't what I was expecting since this wasn't the typical burrito I am use to ordering and seeing at other places, but it was still good. read more

Paid $21 ($17 with tip) for an overstuffed burrito filled with sour cream, very little meat and rice, and it just fell apart on me. The salsa bar needed to be restocked. There were no carrots and jalapeños. Booth I sat at was extremely dirty and floors needed to be cleaned. I called in and order at 9:39 PM by the time I came home it was around 1015. They ended up messing up my order and I came back to fix it when they handed me back my order. I didn't get the plate back and they just handed me one taco item that they had to fix. when I went back in to tell them, I want the rest of my taco plate. The man in the back seemed very frustrated and just very aggressive and assertive like dude it's not hard to fix one taco out of a plate and then get mad at me whenever you only give me one taco back over the whole plate. I came here with my cousin and her kids. She was craving tripas tacos, and I usually order that, but decided to go for nachos. I didn't see it on the menu, but they had nachos, and I ordered it with tripas. I would have never thought the nachos would be that pricey; they were close to $19 before tax. It didn't look like $19 nachos to me. It was okay, but the cheese wasn't even melted all the way. My cousin's tripas tacos looked good, which is what I usually order at the other locations. First off, the bathrooms are NOT ADA compliant. If you are in a wheelchair sadly you may need to go elsewhere. This place is "Meh!". Over priced for the quality and portions compared to everywhere else. Not to mention very little atmosphere. The staff is very friendly however. The only good point is that they are open til 10 PM. My family and I love tacos and order them here every so often. El Rinconsito makes food that is delicious and they get it out to you pretty dang quick more often than not ! I usually just stick with the pollo (chicken) street tacos but had a variety this time. I had a couple pollo, a couple birria (shredded beef) & a couple spicy pork and they were all muy bueno! I'm not normally a soda kind of gal but the favorito drinks they have here are so good too... my favorito of the favoritos is definitely the Jamaica (Hibiscus) which is tart, a bit similar to cranberry flavor. In the past I've also ordered their enchiladas and bean burritos which were also pretty decent. We've been coming here for years and will continue to do so but maybe not quite as often anymore as their prices have definitely gone up. This plate of tacos alone set me back more than $20. read more

This place has gone downhill.. sad cause it used to be one of the best in Tacoma. I ordered a burrito plate and I remember it being so bomb in the past! It wasn't too busy when I was ordering, but I got the saddest burrito plate I've ever had. There was almost no steak in the burrito, just lots of beans, and it was the skinniest burrito I've ever had. You could literally poke through it with your fork and touch the plate. A lady I asked for the code to the restroom forgot the code so I had to wait to ask the lady at the register. When I went to the restroom, I came out and my water cup and receipt was gone. Also, another lady came to give me my food (took close to half an hour which is unusual), and I asked her if there were chips and salsa. She said she'd bring them anyways but never came back. It wasn't until the end of the meal that another different lady came and I asked her where the chips and salsa were but for those, were supposed to go up for them.. TLDR/ Quality: Superior, Price:Reasonable, Cleanliness: Spiffy, Verdict: A resounding heck yes! This is by far the best price for value Mexican restaurant in the area. Literally everything they have is delicious and their preparation and flavoring methods lead to a high-quality end product. I have been a huge fan of this chain of taquerias for probably 17 years, starting with the Kent store and then finding this gem when I moved closer to Tacoma. If you have a hankering for Tacos at 1:30 AM on a Friday, they got you bro! Besides a menu that is vast and a meat selection that is varied and Authentic (tripe anyone?), they have a salsa bar with 4 different liquid salsas, zanahorias en escabeché (spicy pickled carrots), Cabbage Pico de Gallo, radishes, and lime slices. They also have a variety of drink options: juices, traditional favorites, and fountain beverages. The service is superior, and everyone on staff has a smile for you. I always feel at home when I walk in the door to the slightly eclectic decor and wait for my turn to order (there is almost always a line, because they are so popular). To round off why this place gets my five star vote, this last visit, I called in my order and by the time I arrived to pick it up, and got my check sorted and my salsas packed, it was ready to go and four people ate for around 40 bucks, which in my book is a great deal for dinner. In summation, go here, buy everything, eat all the tacos, drink all the bebidas (drinks) and enjoy some dank as heck Mexican alimentos muy sabrosos (very tasty foods) for a reasonable precio (price?) and with great servicio (service) to boot. WE LOVE IT SO MUCH WE CALL IT "EL CONRITO" My wife and I discovered this place by chance, but you've probably seen their billboards. They must have a half dozen or more locations in the sound area, spread between Kent, Federal Way, and Tacoma. And the prices are ridiculously cheap... but you know what isn't cheap? The quality of their food! Tacos? Awesome. Wet burritos? Check. Great little salsa bar? You bet! They basically are playing at the standard taqueria pricing model, low prices and all, but they serve food that is definitely restaurant quality. Like "sit down in a nice Mexican restaurant and gladly pay 2x as much for food almost as good" quality. So yeah, if you are thinking "hmm... is this place any good? It doesn't look very fancy." I tell you this... definitely not fancy (one of the locations had exposed drywall on our last visit), but when it comes to the quality of the food know this: Zero risk, great reward! We love this place so much, I actually created a little jingle for it and call it a pet name "El Conrito" because we think it's such a great place and we wanted a way to make it more personally ours. read more

Beyond pissed off.... this used to be our family favorite. We found a piece of GLASS in our rice and beans I'm being dead serious... I fed my child and fiancé these rice and beans.. and so pissed off it's not even funny. How does someone accidentally have a broken piece of glass in food and not realize they broke glass around the kitchen and still serve it?!? Oh forgot to mention the rice wasn't even filled up all the way either complete rip of on the portion as well but that was the least of our worries after finding the glass! I also usually do a pros and cons list, but I'll skip that for the sake of my terrible terrible experience at this location. .. you see, I've been a long El Rinconsito customer (in Kent) and was delighted to find out another one is with in the area one of my family members lives in. Decided to order on 11/20/20, arrive around 10:15pm. I get it, it's the last 45 minutes of your shift, but guess what I ordered take out.. and I just want my food and go. There was a customer in front of me, and of course when I got in line, two other people also lined up. I stood where it said in the counter "order pick-up." I waited my turn, just like any other person would. The lady in the counter was so busy that she didn't even acknowledge me or give me an eye contact at least.. then a few seconds later, she calls the next person... but not me. She waves to the person behind me.. yup. Proceeds to take his order, on a "order pick-up" line. Now I'm standing there confuse not know, if I got into the right line or not. I said out loud.. "I guess I'm not the next person in line (sarcastically)." She didn't acknowledge me, continues to avoid eye contact. After taking that guys order.. she finally looks up and says "can I help you?" With a really fed up look on her face... then I said I am here to pick up. Then she proceed to ask me for my order number, and I said (just like any other pick up) the name it is under. As I was trying to show her the order, I mentioned DoorDash. She immediately told me to go to the other side of the counter without further instructions.. and so I went. Take the next person in line. Now at this point I'm a little frustrated with my initial interaction.. now I am in the other side of the counter where the online pick up orders are at.. I am pretty sure the manager was managing the online orders and he was moving about.. saw me but failed to recognize me. So I stood there waiting.. Because this guy was soo busy I couldn't get his attention and had to ask another lady at the counter if it was okay for me to grab my food.. she told me to wait... I proceeded to wait.. may I remind you this was a pick up... then few minutes later, the guys/manager finally acknowledges me. I told him the name and hands me my food and drink.. as soon as I was about to door dash, he said wait, and grabs my receipt. The looks at it and throws it on top of my drinks (which was still on the counter) and proceeded to continue his business. I had ask him if I was good to go, and he just said "good." I left angrily... Never before at an El Reconsito have I experienced this before. Even doing dine ins in the past, I've always had the best interaction with their employees... but this location.. this one sucks. First impression is everything and I am sorry but place was not living up to their standards. Will never come back, and will not recommend to anyone I know. read more

I use to frequent here couple times a month. I would take advantage of their limited time specials. Their specials are dirt cheap for how much food you get. Even the regular menu food is fairly inexpensive. Due to my ordeal from my last visit a few months ago, I will not be coming back. On my last visit I had the enchilada entree that comes with rice and beans. After a few bites, I noticed a long strand of hair embedded in my beans. I waived the manager down to show her. She apologized and promptly made me a new one. However, at this point I am disgusted and lost my appetite. As I was waiting for my s/o to finish his food, I was people watching. I observed an employee who was on the grill warming tortillas fiddling with her dirty apron and then dug inside her shirt to adjust her bra. She did not change gloves and still proceeded to warm the tortillas. The staff members are very nice, but they need more training on cleanliness. read more

Growing up this used to be one of my favorite Mexican spots. But over the years they have capitalized off of their popularity, prices have shot up whereas quality has gone down tremendously. My go to here used to be the carne asada street tacos or their wet burritos with carne asada but after finding multiple questionable pieces of cheap stuff in the meat over the years I opted for a vegetarian burrito today. That too was unfortunately mediocre at best. I ordered the burrito platter with no meat and was given a burrito stuffed with beans and rice, no veggies or anything else to substitute for the meat. The burrito was served lukewarm and just did not bring back any fond memories I used to have of el riconsito. These days there are so many better Mexican options in and around Tacoma where prices and quality match. read more

(I have this feeling inside that everyone loves nachos. You can't tell me different). I was waiting so patiently for my sister to arrive because I just KNEW these were going to be the best nachos EVER!! BOY WAS I DISAPPOINTED!!! I WANTED TO DRIVE MY ASS BACK UP THERE I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT!!!! The cheese wasn't melted all the way! The salsa taste like pace picante! (I love pace!!! But not from a restaurant). The sour cream and salsa were just thrown on it!!! You guys....devastating. So I sucked it up and started eating it. I asked my sister if she told them no beans and she said no but there were absolutely no means on these nachos. I started taking chips off and throwing them away then eventually just adding my own chips. Mind you this shit cost $10. $10 for that damn mess. I get to the bottom of the plate and guess what? This place has really gone down hill the past month or so. The arroz con pollo I ordered was horrible! Imagine getting slices of chicken breast that are charred, covered in grease and very dry.... this was horrible and inedible! We have been going here since they opened so I thought maybe it was just a one off and we could try it again, well I was wrong! The Arroz con pollo was horrible again, the chicken was dry and the rice was clearly old or overdone because it was crunchy and gross, and the tacos my husband ordered had quite a bit of fat on them- carne asada street tacos and he had to pick out almost half the meat as it was large pieces of fat. I don't know what happened to the food quality here but it is nothing like it used to be- we won't be going back, I'd rather drive over to Antojo's on 38th and McKinley for better quality! read more
