Difficult to even swallow. Both my wife and I thought the exact same and we stopped eating it after two bites. We returned it to the counter and informed the clerk of our displeasure. The sauce bar has a wide variety but our favorites were the guacamole/verde sauce and chili (dark red one) Highly recommend this place after a show and it was only 26 bucks for pretty decent portions! The quest for the PERFECT taco in Tacoma, WA continues. It is a worthy mission of mine but still haven't found it! This is a local chain and this is their VERY FIRST location. I haven't been here in 20+ years and it has changed a lot since it opened. They now have a much bigger menu (including burgers under the name "burger broiler"). I got 4 carne asada street tacos and they were pretty good. The meat had a nice seasoning on it and the tacos had tons of meat. I thought the tortillas were not fresh enough and my favorite salsa HABANERO SAUCE - was not available. Still a solid option if you want quick Mexican food. read more

Sadly let down with this restaurant. Staff wasn't very friendly or inviting upon arrival which is fine I guess for 1am. We ordered papusa, carne asada burrito, chicken enchiladas and churros. The burrito came out right away and was pretty good, mostly guacamole. The papusa and churros came out next. The papusa was crisp and definitely freshly pressed but not very flavorful. The churros were missing a bite out of one of them. Sure enough one of the staff members came over and took the churros back saying "he took a taste from it" ... gross. Why is the cook taking bites of food off of the plates?? We had to ask her how much longer for the enchiladas and she asked to see our receipt (we weren't offered a copy to show her). Luckily she returned with the enchiladas and fresh churros but, without any apology for the missing bite from the churros or the forgotten food. The enchilada sauce was flavorful with a hint of spice. Churros were definitely frozen from a box and not fresh, but that's to be expected. Overall, not a very pleasant experience. Music was very loud and the kitchen had their own music blasting over the music in the dining room. The good thing was the bathrooms were very clean(after I figured out how to lock the door). First time trying this place and it was great! Our rather large group was looking for a late night place to dine in at and decided to give this place a try. The workers were friendly and patient with all of us while we placed our orders. Their menu is big and combined with Burger Broiler so you have a lot of options to pick from. Though it's a bit pricey, the portions they give and the quality of the food is reasonable. I ordered the beef flautas plate which came with rice and beans and a drink. The beef was tender and flavorful! My husband got the empanadas rellenas and a quesabirria with consomme which he was said were all really good. Our friends seems to have equally enjoyed their meals as well, and we were able to sit together and enjoy ourselves by bringing the tables together. I've never had a bad meal here but it's not something I would make a special trip out of. Until I recently tried their al pastor tacos. They are legit and delicious, I think I even saw the meat spit/rotisserie in the back so they seem to be cooked the traditional way. Not only are they some of the best pastor tacos I've had, they're also the cheapest (if you go with the 3-taco lunch special). Now I plan on making the trip if I'm craving great tacos. Here we are deciding what to do for another family dinner. No one wanted to cook and this place is close to my daughter's house. Ok, let's do this. This place is located in a teeny, tiny strip mall-ish area in Tacoma. They also have a burger place called Burger Broiler which they are interconnected with. There's a B&B coffee shop, which I know absolutely know nothing about. The parking is minimal. Let me tell you what we ordered: Nachos with asada (note: ordering this online, there was no choice on what or if any meat you would like on the nachos) so we hoped that meat was on the nachos, carne asada fries, camarones diablo, enchiladas with green sauce and enchiladas with red sauce. The camarones were a hit with my husband, he said they were flavorful and yes spicy. The red enchiladas had so sauce on them. We had to search for it and it wasn't marked as being red sauce, so we opened a container and pretty sure it was the sauce for the enchiladas. I'm not sure why the sauce wasn't on the enchiladas but daughter #1 liked these. The green enchiladas did have the sauce and my daughter #2 liked these. Both enjoyed the rice and beans. Ok, the complete failures and I mean complete, were the carne asada fries and the nachos. The nachos were barely lukewarm and included jalapenos even though it was clearly marked when ordering as no jalapenos. The chips were not fresh, pretty sure they aren't made there and the meat was so bad. Listen, first there was quite a bit of meat on the nachos but the meat was incredibly stringy with fat. You could pull the meat out and you got lots and lots of fat. The meat was tough, cold and unflavorful. I will say this again and again...nachos are one of the easiest foods to make but darned if I can figure out why getting these like this happens. I am pretty sure that the nachos were done quickly and set aside while the rest of the order was completed. On to the carne asada fries. Ok, think french fries that are one step away from being raw..seriously. And again, the meat was stringy with fat. Now you are talking almost 16.00 a shot for each of these items and you really hope you get your monies worth. So for all of us, over 80.00 plus a processing fee! Do the math. I see that there quite a of these places (El Antojo) around. I would not go out of my way to come here again. Waste of money. Live and learn. read more

Had to try this business. Based on the menu pics, seem authentic foods. Can't say for sure what we ordered since receipt was just a credit card receipt with total price. When ordering food, it was difficult to hear what the cashier was asking due to all the noise. All the food looked great and smelled great. I took some pics of the inside. We will definitely come back and try all the other items. Only thing that bugged us was they gave us a tied up bag for our to go order, we didn't want to open it there so we took the order to daughters house. My wife gave daughter her food and then found out they didn't give all of our order. We went back to get rest of our order. When we returned to the restaurant, rest of the order was just sitting on the table. So only bad thing was the food would have been better if warmer but otherwise, food was good. There food is always good to me! I never get a meal that I don't like. They did recently change their containers so the portion size is a little smaller or it's probably the size it should have been in the beginning because they did give you a lot of beans and rice before. I'm gonna lump el Antojo and the Burger Broiler together because they're in the same building and have the same items on both menus. I gotta say if you're coming here looking for a really good burger I would say look elsewhere. The sandwich's are too small for the price and nothing special. I ordered a spicy chicken sandwich and i would struggle to describe it as "spicy". What you should be coming here for is the fantastic Mexican cuisine, for being a random spot in the middle of Tacoma this place really hits it hard with the Mexican food, and reminds me of restaurants back home in socal. I think if this place just dropped the burger broiler entirely and stuck with trying to make their Mexican food the best it can be, this place would be even more of a hit than it already seems to be. Service is fast usually, but I'm also by myself most of the time as well. The parking lot here is very small and usually packed so trying to find parking on a busy night is rough, but at no fault to anyone so can't do much there. The dining room is spacious and clean, lots of seats for people but it's actually 2 sides of the same restaurant, with 2 different decors to each side which I think is super unique, and I think it's a nice place to eat in. Kids menu options for lower prices which I feel like should just be standard for restaurants, but credit where credits due. All in all, nice place, nice staff, don't get the burgers, and u should have a nice meal. P.s. best part about this place is that they're open late til midnight, which is great for whenever I've worked a tough closing shift I can always rely on this place for a good dinner read more

Carne Asada Tacos, Carnitas Tacos, Adobada Tacos, Tongue Tacos. EXCELLENT. I grew up in Mexico City, and have lived in different states in the USA and these tacos are the BEST TACOS I have tried across all states I've been to. Service was quick, the quality of the ingredients was great and the authenticity of it all was superb. Even the sauces were great in both variety and flavor (although they're not very hot). Special mention to the Tongue taco, which even if pricey, to my astonishment was even better than the multiple tongue tacos I ate at diverse venues in Mexico itself.
