I love Rockos! Everything about the place except for the scary owner who literally chased everyone with a metal chained baseball bat all night on Halloween. The bartenders are so sweet and patient, which is nice considering it's mainly blacked out college students parading the place. But that makes it fun. I had said in my previous review that the decor here isn't something that makes me want to relax and come back repeatedly, but apparently it was. I came in at the same time every week for like four weeks in a row. Each time the bartender was Alex, who's incredibly awesome and will instantly charm you into another drink or six. I always came in around 2-4:30 and was usually the only person there. Sure, there might have been stragglers, but for the most part, I felt like this shiny disco ball of a bar was all mine. I'm back home now in Chi-town but will miss El-Rocko and the quirky bartender. If you're ever in the area, pay tribute to this super weird but awesome place. Found El-Rocko in Yelp based on reviews that described it as a dancing place with great music. So for NYE after the River Boat Cruise the plan was to check it out. Thankfully it was open! AND has a roaring good party!!! Mostly themed around the roaring '20s (rather fitting to reign in the new decade lol) The one suggestion I'd have is that maybe bathrooms be added ... otherwise this place is just great!! There were Go-Go dancers amping up the crowd and balloons released at midnight from the ceiling. The music was just fantastic dancing music and everyone was definitely having a roaring good time!! This is a popular bar in Savannah especially one that underage SCAD students go to. Last weekend I accidentally left my wallet there and when my friends and I went to pick it up we only received my cards. We were told that they were not able to give us back my physical wallet or cash that I had. Instead of helping us, their social media manager decided to blame me instead of help me in this situation. If you're over 21...it is probably not for you. If you are over 25, don't even give it a glance. Stopped in for a a quick drink with my girl and it was underage idiot central. Blonde, thin bartender would not even look at us and it wasn't busy at all. Never serves us...served ever on else, so...we walked out before I found myself losing my...well, you know. One star was removed for the server not being the best. For how busy they were (not) I would have expected better service and less time to get a drink. Second star was removed because I tried two drink specials that they recommended and I was far from impressed. They were just really sweet and not my cup of tea. The decor is delightfully tacky and could only come out of the mind of the owner, who we met personally, because we were reviewing a movie he was in. The decor draws you in- the bar is sparkling gold and the place has a swanky, Great Gatsby sort of feel to it. There is a large dance floor, which is often bustling due to a band or DJ. I really love the way this place is decorated. It's unlike any other bar I've ever been to before. The ultra-modern seating with gold accents reminds me of Baz Luhrmann's take on the Great Gatsby. They also have amazing shows! There is always some hip and happening concert going on here, and many are FREE. More money to spend on band merch! The crowd is usually pleasant earlier on in the evening. Late at night on the weekends it becomes too club-like for my taste but I'm usually at home in bed by that time anyways! I'm surprised by the raving reviews of the bartenders because I have always found the service to be less than stellar. Most (if not all) of the bartenders I have interacted with were un-attentive d-bags who probably think of themselves as "mixologists." The drinks are also overpriced--you're better off flasking it if you're here to catch a show and rather than indulge in over-priced foofy drinks. read more

so I feel so unbelievably DISGUSTED at the moment. I just watched a EMPLOYEE of this establishment try to STRANGLE a girl. I am quite sober and I just watched a girl trying to walk into the bar (which I had seen previously in the lounge) & a bartender walked up and grabbed this girl BY THE NECK. I have never been so disturbed. This is a bar that I have been too several times & I will never return. This girl was a skinny, white female with long brown hair working behind the bar. I would love to speak to a supervisor about this event that several people witnessed. This venue is a great place for social dancing. Since it's off Broughton and on Whitaker, it probably takes a lot to draw a crowd, especially on a weeknight. I only heard about Tuesday night Latin dancing the morning of, and completely by accident. This is a lounge so drinking, music, and dancing is all you can expect here. Not an honest establishment. I went with my friends for a girls weekend, we ordered 4 drinks from the drink specials list. They charged me $10 extra and kept the change assuming it was "tip."
