It was getting kind of late to be looking for somewhere else to go, so we were like okay, we'll just sit and wait. As we were walking away, the general manager Daniel rushed out and said if we could give him 15 minutes, he could have us set up in the private dining room. We didn't even know such a thing existed, but we said okay, cool. Reader, it could not have possibly been a better experience. We waited a bit (less than 15 minutes, even) and walked into this private space to find a large family-style dining table all set up for us, with candlelight and music and the whole bit. Our server Patrick was fantastic, very knowledgeable about the menu, able to answer all our questions, and had a great sense of humor. Everyone ordered something different and ended up trying bites of each other's food, and it was all delicious. Several of us even ordered dessert; I don't normally, but the salted caramel gelato sounded too good to pass up (and it was well worth it). Of the other - 1 so rubbery I had to spit it out and the other melted on my tongue so fast I wasn't sure there had been an oysters under the coating. Outside of the oysters I will continue to patronize Omar's because they're usually the best and have been here longer than I've been coming to Ashland (1985).
