This place was on my list as I'd seen from Reddit that they serve the best burger in town! I was also craving fish & chips which they had as well, so stopped by for dinner on a Wednesday night. There was no wait. The parking lot is a bit awkwardly placed so there aren't too many usable spots -- I could see it filling up quickly on a busier night. The main entrance from the parking lot goes into the bar section, but there is also a quieter restaurant section through the double doors by the bar. My husband ordered the burger, and I ordered the fish & chips which came with a choice of soup (I got creamy tomato basil). We also ordered a shrimp cocktail to start. The shrimp cocktail was definitely the weakest dish of the night, as the shrimp was definitely not fresh. But everything else was delicious! The soup was super creamy and smooth (as the name would suggest), and the chives cut through the creaminess quite well. The fish & chips had a feather-light fry that was still amazingly crisp, and I loved the garlic fries! I probably could have salted the fish & chips a little more but that was my own fault, lol. You'll probably want to eat them pretty quick though since the fry is so thin, the part touching the plate can get mushy from the condensation. The burger was also excellent, with a super juicy patty! Definitely enjoyed our meal here and could see myself coming back, though there are so many restaurants to try in Ashland.

    NY Steak. Amazing.

I'm just adding enough rambling on about things so that I can get to the 85 characters ...it's a great place to eat

New York Steak with Steak Fries. Perfect

The food was marvelous. Service was excellent. The ambiance, as a 1940's original is a step back in time.

Omar's ? More like oh No's. They've gone completely down hill. Their shrimp cocktail used to be FIERCE. Now it's like 4 pieces of sad shrimp with ketchup. Sad caesar salad, dressing tastes like lemon water? Fine dining? Where? The waitress was also not letting us change tables in a fully empty restaurant besides two other people? The food basically tastes like dog water and you're leaving with an empty wallet. Just another over rated Ashland restaurant way over priced for no reason.

The dessert was so good? We forgot to take a picture of it first.

Been coming to Ashland for the Shakespeare Festival since 1991, and we'd never been here before. Alas, we now must wonder why! It was delicious! We tried all the marked favorites on the menu, and everything tasted wonderful: the highlights were the two chowders, the perfectly prepared NY steaks, and the Coupe Denmark dessert. The service was excellent even if some of the other customers were a bit uncouth (please don't play your phone videos on high volume in public, people!). The ambience was comfortable and relaxing, although the table was a bit cramped. Nonetheless, everything was very enjoyable. We will be back.

Chateau Briand 36 should absolutely be on your list of places to visit while in town. But if I had one evening to spend in Ashland for dinner I would likely choose another restaurant. We were seated rather quickly, told that the restaurant was coming down from a very big dinner rush (when eating in Ashland please be mindful of show times and expect everyone else will be eating before heading to the theater as well). So, we arrived after a rush with a reservation at 7:30. We ordered their Cesar salad to start. 10/10. Simple, crisp, balanced... no notes Here's where things started to dwindle. The restaurant is romantic and intimate too a fault, its lights are dim, the jazz music is at a volume designed for sleepiness... and our main courses took over an hour to come out to us!! (We were so tired I almost asked for a pillow and a blanket... jokes aside...)Which came with no "hey sorry the kitchen is running behind" we actually watched a couple come in, sit down, eat, pay, and leave, all while we were waiting for our main course. All that being said, the food was great. We ordered their steak with a side of mushrooms, and chicken with brussel sprouts. Our server was kind, she even brought us out some cookies to finish our meal off with. The steak was cooked perfectly, everything was well seasoned and made with love... dare is say it was worth the very long wait.

I ordered the beef cheeks. My initial thought as I went in was "these people know what they're doing." The meat was so tender and flavorful, and it melded seamlessly with the truffle sauce and cauliflower puree. The broccolini was charred beautifully with just enough crunch. We were off to a strong start! The hanger steak was a different story. A difficult cut of meat to get right. The center was a perfect medium, but the crust was over-charred and giving off bitter, ash-tray tasting vibes. A couple of the center cuts showed the potential of the dish, but as you approached the blackened ends, it wasn't appetizing. The drink list was exciting and I enjoyed the "Rum with a Vieux," a sort of rum-based take on an old fashioned. We got a Caesar salad to start, which was mostly made from the dense lettuce hearts and was again, overly bitter. This was an intriguing restaurant to visit. I won't be rushing back, but given the glimmers of technical mastery, I won't cross it off my list either. At a lower price-point, this place would have been a 4, but when paying premium you can't drop the ball on an entire dish.

The service is good, we've been there with our family and with a large group, and they have always been very patient and friendly. Alchemy is in my top 3 favorite places for a dressy dinner when we are visiting Ashland. The only slightly negative thing I have to say is that we were there celebrating a birthday once and at the end of the meal our server brought out a candle on a small, flat ceramic dish. The birthday girl's comment was, "You just spent $300 on dinner and all they brought me for my birthday was a candle?" It seemed a little chintzy since most places will give you an actual dessert, not just a candle, but at least they brought a candle. Other than that tiny little thing, we still love to eat here and will be back when visiting in the future.

The latter changes seasonally--in our case it was a dashi broth with a variety of local mushrooms and vegetables. Both dishes were good, with my steak cooked perfectly and the mashed potatoes amazingly creamy without tasting too buttery; the dashi broth was delicious as well. We also split the steak tartare, the house bread, and the chips & dip (seasonal special) as appetizers. With the exception of the chips & dip, the appetizers were good but nothing outstanding. The chips & dip, however, were REALLY GOOD! I did not know you could elevate potato chips like that, but their house-made chips are delicious and I would highly recommend trying them. Both my fiancé and I were not a huge fan of the sauce (just a little too creamy, it's really smooth though so if you like creamy sauces you'll probably enjoy it!), but just eating the plain chips was amazing. They even brought us a second serving of chips for free since we hadn't used all of the dip! We also ordered a pear tart for dessert which I would also recommend getting! Delicious crust and good pear flavor.

We didn't find out the ins and outs of the games, but it makes it feel like a place you are welcome to stay at for a while. They had a great kids menu. Our girls both wanted pizza and the observant server recommended they share a pizza because they are not small. It was accurate and kept us from having a whole leftover pizza, even though the prices were reasonable and it would have been a good value. The two adults shared the spicy cauliflower from the appetizer menu and the quesacarnitas tacos. Both were seasoned well, very flavorful, and all around delicious.
