I love Omar's and try to visit when I'm in Ashland. This time I had the surf and turf special of the night: New York Steak & fried Oysters. Since it was early enough I also had the small happy hour Brussel Spouts appetizer. I adore their Spouts & have had them the last 4-5 times. Yum. The steak was perfection. The sautéed vegetables were good. The whipped garlic potatoes were too salty for me. Unfortunately, I love a good fried oyster & these were only OK. They seemed not to been drained enough. There was quite a bit of oil on my plate headed towards my steak. The cracker meal breading (not my fave) was falling off left & right. Of the 3 oysters only one came close to my idea. Of the other - 1 so rubbery I had to spit it out and the other melted on my tongue so fast I wasn't sure there had been an oysters under the coating. Outside of the oysters I will continue to patronize Omar's because they're usually the best and have been here longer than I've been coming to Ashland (1985). Run! (Don't walk!) to Omar's for their incredibly delicious crab dinner special: Soft shell crab meunière! We were at Omar's for dinner with a group of six friends on Wednesday at 6:30, and several of us wanted to order the crab special, but it was already so popular it had sold out. We all enjoyed the alternate seafood items we ordered (3 orders of breaded and baked snapper and Manila Clams), but the soft shell crab meunière was still on my mind... My husband and I had to try it, so we made an earlier reservation (5:30pm) on Friday night to see if we could snag the crab meunière. The restaurant was already getting fairly busy. Our server was so kind and our put in our dinner order right away. We were able to get the last crab dish. It was phenomenal! Buttery and delicious. We were so glad we came back twice this week. This time for Friday date night. It was a perfect experience. Classic old-school nice restaurant vibe with tasty well-prepared food, red leather booths, and friendly people. We ordered: -Soft shell crab meunière dinner special: 5 stars! (Honestly, I would give it 100 stars!) Go there and get this while they have it! -Fresh steamed Manila clams appetizer: 5 stars (I often order this appetizer as my entree and then get a side salad. They are so fresh and tasty. They're steamed in white wine, garlic, cream, and fresh herbs. Love this so much! Save some bread to dunk in the broth. -Brussels sprouts appetizer: 5 stars (prepared perfectly, crispy on the outside with balsamic vinegar and salt) -Butternut Squash ravioli appetizer: 5 stars (Cooked in brown butter. These are yummy!) -Maple walnut Manhattan: 5 stars (balanced, boozy, and not overly sweet) -Rogue Valley Trium ganache rosé: 5 stars, paired well with the clams and Crab My husband and I love Omar's. We've dined there many times, alone and with friends and family over the years. I appreciated that they have a mix of seafood options. Those are generally what we order since we're pescatarians. This place was on my list as I'd seen from Reddit that they serve the best burger in town! I was also craving fish & chips which they had as well, so stopped by for dinner on a Wednesday night. There was no wait. The parking lot is a bit awkwardly placed so there aren't too many usable spots -- I could see it filling up quickly on a busier night. The main entrance from the parking lot goes into the bar section, but there is also a quieter restaurant section through the double doors by the bar. My husband ordered the burger, and I ordered the fish & chips which came with a choice of soup (I got creamy tomato basil). We also ordered a shrimp cocktail to start. The shrimp cocktail was definitely the weakest dish of the night, as the shrimp was definitely not fresh. But everything else was delicious! The soup was super creamy and smooth (as the name would suggest), and the chives cut through the creaminess quite well. The fish & chips had a feather-light fry that was still amazingly crisp, and I loved the garlic fries! I probably could have salted the fish & chips a little more but that was my own fault, lol. You'll probably want to eat them pretty quick though since the fry is so thin, the part touching the plate can get mushy from the condensation. The burger was also excellent, with a super juicy patty! Definitely enjoyed our meal here and could see myself coming back, though there are so many restaurants to try in Ashland. read more

Omar's ? More like oh No's. They've gone completely down hill. Their shrimp cocktail used to be FIERCE. Now it's like 4 pieces of sad shrimp with ketchup. Sad caesar salad, dressing tastes like lemon water? Fine dining? Where? The waitress was also not letting us change tables in a fully empty restaurant besides two other people? Been coming to Ashland for the Shakespeare Festival since 1991, and we'd never been here before. Alas, we now must wonder why! It was delicious! We tried all the marked favorites on the menu, and everything tasted wonderful: the highlights were the two chowders, the perfectly prepared NY steaks, and the Coupe Denmark dessert. The service was excellent even if some of the other customers were a bit uncouth (please don't play your phone videos on high volume in public, people!). What has happened to Omar's?? Everything used to be great here and now almost everything was wrong! Only writing this review with the hopes the management/ owners will take it to heart and make some changes. Went for dinner on a Thursday night, was not too busy. Service was slow, inattentive, and cold. Soup was barely lukewarm and tasted like Jarlic. Caesar salad was the worst I've had in the valley- no flavor, even with extra dressing, scant croutons and parm, and giant pieces of lettuce. Fish and chips were bland and soggy and chips were I/2 burnt and hard pieces. The steak was actually really good!! But everything else was clearly a reflection of poor management or poor training or poor quality, or all the above. Very disappointed as life long locals and patrons. Sad to say we won't be back. Hope they get it together before they run it into the ground. read more

Just read the March, 2026 Sneak Preview about helping to save Omars. I am copy & pasting review I wrote in July 2024. We have not been back since. Don't want to waste our money until we hear good reviews again. I checked the menu and they still do not have Crab..that is a big deal!! My Jul 14, 2024 review; Have lived here 50 yrs, Omars used to be really special. We had special party of 15...some liked their food ok and some were really disappointed, especially how expensive it is. No crab or lobster, new york steak was tough & zuchhinni fingers not worth the wait. Omars used to be a splurge but the experience was worth it.. (was expensive for what you got) plus tonight's drinks, needed to be 'sent back' and/or folks just did not finish them. Service was great and she did a great job for that many people!!!! Had Omars for the first time a year ago and the chicken fried steak was to die for! I've been craving it for a year! Sadly, super disappointed. Old school historic atmosphere with a red and dark dining area. We visited as a guest of another couple so it's difficult to be extremely critical however, three of us ordered the New York strip, all cooked differently. One, medium rare, two was medium and the third, well done. All three were served the same level of medium pink and not how ordered. The meat was flavorful but chewy and not a high quality meat. My side salad with honey mustard was subbed for the soup and was fresh and delicious. Bread was warm and fresh. Our young server was attentive and friendly. We had a pleasant dining experience in spite of the steak and when you consider how long Omar's has been serving steaks, expect them to be cooked correctly without having to return for additional cooking! read more

Advertising like some kinda seafood place that you should make a reservation for when it's worse than a dsnnys not to mention they close the whole place down and try to sit you in a long old plastic bright red booth with other people who you don't even know when the place is empty. Again, we took up the whole front room and the service was great! This time I ordered one of their house specialties, Toad in the Hole. We made reservations on yelp. And we got right in. The room was well lit and very comfortable seating. The host told us what the specials of the day were. Our waitress was kind and helpful, water full, and the food was amazing! My husband had prime rib, I had the salmon special and our son had jerk chicken. It was all excellent. read more

It's different because it changed hands but the Brussels sprouts are still great and the steak is fine. Once it was great steak that stood out. The salad was good. We are always too full to eat dessert. My son and DIL take me out there about twice a year. Omar's is an Ashland landmark so it will probably survive all changes but it wasn't its usual level of excellence. Maybe it will get better. Went for a birthday dinner, food wasn't great but the company was. We got the check and left $440 cash on the table and left. The server chased my nephew to his vehicle saying we didn't pay the bill. We had left and had to turn around. Walked into the dining room to the manager and server standing there with my nephew. Took my daughter here and it is probably one of the better restaurants in Ashland. I ordered a cocktail and it was pretty good - not spectacular but not too shabby. I have eaten at Omar's at least once or twice a week since I moved to Ashland. It is my go-to restaurant for a great filet mignon steak and the staff is top notch and friendly. They also have good clam chowder and an old style shrimp cocktail that is huge. read more

The place was packed but apparently understaffed (only one waiter) when we visited. Despite this we didn't experience significant delays. No children's menu options. Reservations highly recommended by staff. We really enjoyed our fresh oysters shooters and the daily special burger. Steaks were prepared as requested and our server was incredibly friendly and accommodating, making us feel at ease. The spicy margarita was almost undrinkable (an overwhelmingly sharp and unnatural chemical flavor) but the wine, mai tai, and raspberry cocktail were decent. We have been going to Omar's for over 35 yrs. It has new owners and this change and some after Covid has really made this no longer our go to. No more amazing salad or good bread is something that was the first to go. The food is just not the same quality. The famous ice cream is no longer served in a frozen mug. It made the sundae so amazing, why change it if you keep it. Other food is just not the same and it's gotten $$$. Sadly we won't be going back for family gatherings and events. read more

I went back even though my last review, albeit honest, was reflective of a number of poor experiences dining here... I split a burger with a friend and it was decent, like 3/5 Service was good, but the only dining area that didn't smell strongly of fish was the front/bar area and it was packed so we were lucky one group was leaving as we arrived. CAUTION ADVISED It is very difficult to write this review of one of the Rogue Valleys oldest and most cherished restaurants. Our group of 4 was previously turned away as the whole restaurant was reserved for a party. This was in no way announced until after entering and being curtly turned away by a staff member. No apology or invitation to visit another time. Assuming it was the stress of a large group, we shrugged it off and went to Beasy's on the creek for a fantastic experience... On the most recent Friday, the four of us decided to go to Omar's again. We had reservations and were seated immediately and given menus. About 5 minutes later we were brought water and our uncomplicated drinks were ordered At 35 minutes after arrival, we got our drinks. At 40 minutes, our order was taken After we had been there an additional 20 minutesv our waitress returned telling us they were out of Hallibut specials. This was about 6:45 PM . The restaurant had many open tables, so it was not customarily busy. Three new orders were taken. The chicken fried steak could be found by any competent search dog. The seafood fettuccine was well presented and generous. Despite the glowing menu description of local batter preparation,the fish and chips were a masterful replica of SYSCO or other pre-packaged frozen preparation. Substituting snapper for the hallibut,my wife later described it as one of the worst meals she had experienced. The snapper was dry and tasteless ,accompanied by vegetables drained of flavor. Being sold out of a special by 6;45 on a not overly busy night indicates a failure if executive chef planning There are some post-pandemic modifications that linger. Their traditional generous table salad bowl is gone. They charge for bread. Menu offers are quite limited. We are 45 year "locals"? We have enjoyed Omar's for family and friends celebrations and casual drop-in dining through those years . As I indicated, this was a difficult review of a favorite haunt to write, but patrons need to be cautioned, and the owners need to have their chains jerked. I ordered filet mignon and asked for it to be cooked medium rare. I told the waitress that sometimes people hear "medium well" and I wanted to make sure it was cooked correctly for me. The waitress said she would get it right. A little later she slipped a note on the table that said they are changing their menu prices so food may be more expensive than what's stated on the menu. This was AFTER we already ordered. My steak was $3.00 more than stated on the menu. The salad was good, but not the same as in the past--they use to bring a big salad bowl with toppings on the side and you could choose the items to place on your salad. Now it's just a standard side salad. Our main course arrived and my steak looked overcooked. Half of it was okay, but the other half was well done! The waitress disappeared so I couldn't say anything to her about it. Really disappointing--especially when a filet mignon is $45! The hostess cleared our plates and I pointed out how overcooked my steak was. She could care less. My sister said her salmon was good; however, I doubt I'll go back to this restaurant.
