I was with some friends in Ashland for a bachelorette outing this spring, and the restaurant where we had planned on eating dinner ended up having an event going on and we were unable to go there. We ended up just wandering around the area looking for an alternative and stumbled upon Osteria La Briccola; I'm always down for Italian, and it looked like there were some good options for the members of our group who were gluten free. There were 7 of us though, and we were told it would be about a 50-minute wait for a table. It was getting kind of late to be looking for somewhere else to go, so we were like okay, we'll just sit and wait. As we were walking away, the general manager Daniel rushed out and said if we could give him 15 minutes, he could have us set up in the private dining room. We didn't even know such a thing existed, but we said okay, cool. Reader, it could not have possibly been a better experience. We waited a bit (less than 15 minutes, even) and walked into this private space to find a large family-style dining table all set up for us, with candlelight and music and the whole bit. Our server Patrick was fantastic, very knowledgeable about the menu, able to answer all our questions, and had a great sense of humor. Everyone ordered something different and ended up trying bites of each other's food, and it was all delicious. Several of us even ordered dessert; I don't normally, but the salted caramel gelato sounded too good to pass up (and it was well worth it). Bianche e nere was excellent: squid ink and regular white linguini with shrimp and porcini mushrooms cooked to perfection in a white creamy sauce with some pancetta as well. Very tasty! as dessert we had a caramel flan with amaretto and whipped cream on the side... super delicious as well!! service was great. Parking in downtown is challenging but we found a street spot not too far away. This is our go-to restaurant in Ashland. We have eaten here upwards of 15 times and it's always exceptional. The food, service, mocktails, wine, ambiance. All exceptional! We are so lucky to have authentic Italian food right here in our backyard. Some of our favorites are the lasagna, gnocchi, artichoke salad, panna cotta for dessert. The restaurant was really popular and we didn't get seated till 815 which was fine because we got a nice seating location around the bay window. They have a terrific menu, but we settled for the Bucatini and Pappardelle... both outstanding and a bottle of wine! The service was great, but I only have one small criticism... I told the owner in advance that we were celebrating my wife's birthday and I thought maybe... Just maybe... They would treat her to wonderful gelato. I guess it's a thing now that even though you spend three figures on a dinner... You aren't treated to a birthday dessert like the old days. We went with our brother and sister-in-law before a play while in Ashland. Definitely make reservations! We were greeted and seated right on time. My wife and I split the Insalata Tricolore con Gorgonzola. It was excellent! We also split the Pappardelle Agnello e Pistacchi (lamb) and loved it. Our guests also split the Gorgonzola salad but ordered the Bucatini al Ragu di Salsiccia (pork). They liked it, but it was a bit plain. I tasted it and agreed. Our lamb had better flavor, in my opinion. Both dishes, however, were very good. Our server, Gina, was very helpful with the wine, our selections and service. The restaurant's kitchen is on the main floor and dining on the second floor. This requires the servers to walk up and down a flight of stairs multiple times in an evening. Quite the workout. Dinner was absolutely fantastic. The perfect place to celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary. Daniel and his team knocked it out of the park. All the food was extremely delicious and the drinks were perfect. I would highly recommend anybody even passing through Ashland to stop by this place if they can. We went to a play at the Shakespeare Festival and made reservations to eat at the Osteria La Bricolla after on the recommendation of a local friend. Three of us went and we all said WOW. Service was excellent and the food was just plain amazing. We ordered four items for the three of us. My wife had the Lazagna and our friend had the special which was Short Rib Ravioli and I had the Bucatini Al Raga Di Salsiccia Di Maiale. As an extra to share we ordered the Gnocchi Di Patate. The Gnocchi was light and fluffy little joyful bites of amazing flavor. All the other dishes were just the best. If you are in Ashland and if you like Italian food you have to go the Osteria La Bricolla as it is great. We stopped by on a Monday evening without a reservation and waited about 15 minutes to get seated--not bad at all. The weather was perfect and the whole vibe of the place was warm and welcoming. We're vegetarian, and it was great to see such delicious options on the menu. We started with a glass of Chianti and some fresh focaccia bread (on the house!). For mains, we had the tagliatelle with Arrabbiata sauce and the gnocchi with tomato sauce--both were absolutely amazing. The spice level in the Arrabbiata was just right--not too hot, not too mild. And honestly, the flavors were just like what we had during our travels in northern Italy. We live in San Francisco, so we've experienced a lot of great Italian food--and this place really holds its own. Dessert was just as impressive: the caramel gelato came with cream and a light sprinkle of pepper--an unexpected touch that made it really special. Everything from start to finish was a highlight. The only downside? The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays, and since we're leaving Wednesday, we couldn't return for another meal . La briccola Stunning atmosphere and top shelf staff. If weather permits, go for a table on the patio. Menu is classic trattoria style: antipasti, primi, and secondi setup. The also have a build your own pasta menu which pairs any of their 7 house made pasta with any of 6 distinct sauces. There's also daily chef offering's not found on the menu, so be sure and listen for that. Servers are completely knowledgeable about everything on the menu and very helpful with any questions you may have. Immediately greeted and offered complimentary Prosecco. I started with a most impressive imported burrata paired with prosciutto di Parma with arugula and a drizzle of olive oil. Definitely shareable, but I had to devour it solo tonight. Tonight's special was a bone marrow saffron risotto. While visually appealing, I found it lacked dimension in terms of flavor. The rice itself was cooked as it should be, but the only thing you could taste was saffron. It just took over the whole flavor profile. Sometimes less is more and saffron is one of those times. Turns out they use chicken stock, but I think a beef stock would compliment the marrow. The big split bone sitting on top with marrow exposed looks neat, but I'd rather the marrow be used as an ingredient in the risotto to bring richness and creaminess rather than a garnish on top. My standards may be unusually high and most people will be fine with this. Dessert menu looked fantastic and included my favorite, affogato. Unfortunately too stuffed to partake tonight. A liquid dessert from the digestif menu--Amaro Montenegro hit the spot! I certainly enjoyed my time here at Briccola, and hope to return to explore the menu some more. The service level and staff really set this place apart from others. Oh, allow extra time when making reservations. The parking situation is not optimal and requires at least 5-10 minutes walking and getting on an elevator to finally arrive. read more

All our food was excellent. Lovely fresh pasta and sauces. The "tricolore" salad, with arugula, radicchio, and endive, was beautifully balanced with caramelized walnuts and gorgonzola. The burrata was also delicious and a generous portion for two. Service was good overall. My only complaint is the bar was slow. We ordered cocktails which arrived after our antipasti. After our pastas were served we each ordered a glass of wine, which took an inexplicably long time. So I can't give five stars, but I'd give four and a half if I could. The man handling reservations was unbelievably rude and completely unprofessional. He told me we couldn't be accommodated at two tables because it would somehow "disturb other patrons," which made no sense at all. When I called back and simply made a reservation for half of my family, he had no problem taking it. However, when I called again to try to make an earlier reservation for the other half of my party, the same man completely lost his temper. He started yelling at me over the phone and told me I would never be able to dine at that restaurant again. He then hung up on me mid-conversation. This kind of behavior is absolutely unacceptable. No customer should ever be treated this way by someone representing a business. The fact that this establishment allows employees to behave so aggressively and disrespectfully is disgraceful. I will NEVER support a place that tolerates staff treating people this way, and others should seriously reconsider giving their business to a restaurant that allows such appalling conduct. read more
