This is hands down my all time favorite Mexican food restaurant of all time. Since moving out of Modesto 9 years ago I have never found a restaurant quite as good. When you go there, make sure and ask for the cabbage with your chips and salsa (they use to just give it out now you must ask for it). They have the best carnitas!!!!!!! The enchiladas are also very good, but my favorite is their burrito supreme with green sauce - I usually get it with chicken or carnitas. This is the first location I ever visited, but I also go to Coffee Rd. and have found it very consistent. Food was ok. The Guacamole for $8 wasn't worth the price. We went on Memorial Day the restaurant wasn't packed however the service took forever, servers weren't very friendly. Not sure why smiling is a lost art anymore. Doubtful I'll be back I would've liked my food to be on the hot side it wasn't very warm. The one thing that did set me off was as we were leaving I held the door open for a worker coming inside and my gesture was met with a glare and a sour look. Had eaten dozens of times at El Rosal on Tully pre Covid. Always pretty darn good with 2-3 favorites. Ordered Chicken La Plancha, one of those favorites. Tonight, a great disappointment. The chicken had lots of gristle and fat and was extremely dry. Beans and rice were both pretty bland. Don't know if it was an 'off night' but a great disappointment. read more

We walked in at 5:10PM. No wait for a table, several open booths. We sat down, was given water and chips. We told the lady at that time we were ready to order. 25 minutes later we ordered our food. Two other tables came in AFTER us and they got their order taken before we did. The table next to us came in just before we ordered so she took their order at the same time. They got their food 10 minutes before we did!! The server was bringing water to a table and it slid off her tray onto the floor and me. I got one really sorry ass apology...and some napkins tossed at me to mop up the booth seat where all the water and ice went. We finally get our food at about 6:10 pm. by this time I was not a happy camper having a wet bum and the lousy service we had. I will say the food was excellent, but the server wasn't. As a former server of over 30 years I am somewhat observant of what goes on in a restaurant and I always tip well...when deserved. The women who work here are completely unprofessional and rude. I waited half an hour to order (restaurant was not busy). People who got in after us were clearing their plates while we were still waiting for our food. I informed our waitress that we needed to leave and I'd like to pay for my drink. She charged me double the price of my drink, I asked why and she told me she charged me for the chips and salsa... the free chips and salsa on the table. I come here often. The food is fair and It's close to my work and as long as you sit in the left side of the restaurant your service will be great. But for the waitress in the right side, that's a different story. Knowing this I don't typically sit in the right side but today they were busy and it was the Only booth open. I've been sitting here for over 25min and I've seen the waitress come to this side twice. Still has not even acknowledged that I am sitting here. Now the place is almost empty and she still hasn't acknowledged me. I will be leaving without lunch today. This will be the last time I come here. read more

There are so many Mexican restaurants in Modesto and we have tried most of them but this one is our go to for consistently good, fresh, deliciousness. My husband loves the carnitas which comes with a generous portion of meat. I tend to order something different each time and haven't had a bad meal. My favorites include the chicken tostada, chicken enchiladas but my number one dish is the enchiladas a la vallarta (shrimp) - topped with super yummy and tangy green sauce. We sometimes order take out which is always ready for pick up when we arrive / super helpful when we are in a hurry. Good service, good locations, can't go wrong at El Rosal! read more

Tried to call owner (12/17/14) this morning at 10am. To give an earful about the SHITIEST service and the (DOG) food they tried to pass on me yesterday, and according to whoever answered the phone states that the owner had already came and gone for rest of the day and doesn't know when he will be back next. Apparently he does not have a schedule for his employees. I can't even get a phone # to head corporation cause nobody knows the "#" I'll have to call the BBB Thursday morning. Terrible service. Took 45 minutes for my friend and I to receive our two items. Asked for extra salsa and never received it. Our shrimp was not shelled which I had expected they would do for us. What happened to this location ? I haven't been here in years, just passed by and decided to stop in. Hardly anyone there, ok no big deal. After sitting there for a very long while the wa finally came by annoyed she had to work and brought us dirty menus and burnt dry chips and salsa that tasted like Clamato ..,Decided on a fajita burrito. What I got was a bland onion burrito, white rubbery small weird pieces of chicken that didn't look grilled. Yuck!!!! My daughters food was also mostly onions she didn't like it at all either ... Needless to say, I would never eat here again I used to come here all the time many years ago, and the place was good. Went here for the second time over the course of 1 year and we were craving Mexican food so why not come here. BIG Mistake! The food was alright I suppose but if your expecting nice friendly service then don't come here! As me and my girlfriend were eating already on the right hand side of the restaurant to get a better view of the football game(it was only us 2 on this side of the restaurant), well we were sitting there and an elderly man came in and sat in the booth next to us minding his business and the Older Waitress came out of the kitchen telling him to get up and sit on the other side of the restaurant because she had to "clean" on this side. We found it so rude the way she said it because she sounded so demanding and wasn't very friendly about it what so ever! This really got me and my girlfriend upset , although she wasn't rude with us she wasn't being friendly to EVERYONE!!!!!! The good thing is that the older man did not get up from where he was sitting and continued to eat there and asked another waitress to take his order. We over heard him say to the younger "Can you take my order because she probably won't feed me"? Veryyyyy Upset about this incident! Her performance really affected her tip! read more

My husband ordered to go a carne asada burrito, came home and opened the container and it wa a soggy wet burrito that was falling apart....I called to let them know he is going back to receive his regular burrito but the lady said "well we gave him that cause our regular burritos are really small". I mean why assume what he wants. I told her well he didn't order that and noone gave him the option or even let him know the situation. I told her he is on his wy and she hung up on me! Out of all the El Rosal locations in the Modesto area, this is by far the best of all their locations, as well as a dollar or two cheaper for each dish. The restaurant's decor is very festive and the staff is quite good, even when they have a packed full restaurant. read more

This place is small compared to the other El Rosales but it does not lack in great service or in great food. I had the shrimp burrito and the shrimps were seasoned well and the burrito was big. The ladies are sweet and very attentive. The only thing I don't like is they their chips are too greasy read more
