I stopped by El Sabor Latino Bakery & Catering because another breakfast option fell through on an early Saturday morning. I went with a breakfast sandwich and a cup of coffee. I forget the name of the sandwich, but it had eggs, chorizo, plantains, and something else that I cannot remember. Although I was a bit surprised the sandwich was around 8 bucks, I understood why when the sandwich came out because it was HUGE. Put it like this, the sandwich kept me full for a good 4-5 hours, so it definitely was worth the eight dollars. While waiting for my sandwich, curiosity got the best of me, and I ended up buying a few pastries for later. The sandwich, coffee, and four large pastries were about $16. Overall, I thought my sandwich was absolutely delicious...especially the bread/roll that it was served on/with. Like I said earlier, the sandwich was jammed packed with eggs, chorizo and plantains. Throughout the weekend, I tasted the pastries, and I thought all of the were pretty delicious. Unfortunately, I do not know which pastries I purchased because many were not labeled. To be honestly, I completely picked the pastries at random. One of the things that I enjoyed about the pastries: none of them were overly sweet. For me, they had just the right amount of sweetness, which might be considered bland for others. The bakery is kind of small, in terms of dining in, because it has about 2-3 small tables. However, the bakery seems more like a place to grab food (or pick up orders) and go. While eating, I was the only one who actually ate their food inside of the restaurant. I thought the two women behind the counter were exceptionally nice. Also, interacting with them gave me a chance to practice my Spanish. Overall, I thought this was a great random find, and I'm looking forward to returning and trying some more of their delicious pastries and other platos fuertes. read more

Tuesday 1/21/25 I randomly found out about this spot a few months ago while on TikTok. I heard A LOT of high praise for it, so now I'm trying it. The service experience was quite memorable and funny. There were differences in language barriers, but we still made it work out in the end. I was overwhelmed, to say the least, as I was completely new to the experience of a Spanish bakery, so I got suggestions from the workers, Yelp & Google, and what caught my eye. I ended up spending $43.20 total and got: Brazo gitanos $2.75, torta $3, pan de pina $1, steak egg and cheese sandwich $10.75, tipico platter $14, flan $5.50, pork & cheese pupusa $2.75, and chicken & cheese pupusa $3.50. Also, I was excited to try the tres leches, but they didn't have any at the time. - The brazo gitanos is like a pound cake with a cherry/strawberry swirl, and it was alright. - The torta was my favorite bakery item as it tasted the best, and was elevated further when I warmed it up. - The pan de pina is a Spanish pastry with pineapple "jam" in the center, and it was alright. - The steak egg and cheese sandwich was my favorite item. The Spanish bread paired well with the ingredients to create a great flavor with every bite. - The tipico platter was decent, but I wish I had gotten more portions of the chorizo because the portion I got was limited. One thing that makes it truly amazing is combining all of the platter items on their homemade tortillas to create a sensational taco of taste and flavor. - I'm not a fan of flan (it's alright), but theirs was pretty decent. - The pupusas (pork & cheese and chicken & cheese) were great, and they might just be the best pupusas I've had. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at El Sabor. I would recommend it and be open to returning (maybe next time they will have tres leches available). read more

Stopped in at one of my favorite Latin bakeries. The bakery is small, but the staff are great. I was craving a steak, egg, and cheese sandwich. McDonald's has nothing on their breakfast sandwich. El Sabor offers a flavorful sandwich on a fresher baked roll. Steak and egg are well seasoned. Egg is pan-fried. They offer other sandwiches, but the steak, egg, and cheese is my favorite. I really do hate giving bad reviews especially to my Latino community but I really would of hoped that the food we got would of been good but it wasn't. My husband ordered corn tamales and they were not good, didn't even taste like corn and super pale looking. The tamales were suppose to come with crema and my husband told me that they were giving him a free one but its usually .75 cent, doesn't make sense why they would want to charge when its suppose to come with one. Anyways now my sandwich which was just eggs and refried beans which was suppose to come with cheese and crema, did not. They completely didn't give me no cheese or cream. Just disappointing. I did have to wait even though there was no one in line, but that's ok. I'm happy to support a local business. Prices are higher than one would expect, but again, support local. This was not the 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice for me one Sunday morning but because of renovation and ridiculously long lines at nearby places I came across El Sabor. It will be one of my first choices moving forward. I had a Pan Con Todo breakfast sandwich. It came on bread that was light and tasty yet still strong enough to keep the sandwich together. The chorizo was good and not too spicy. The service was excellent and the wait was reasonable. My fiance and I discovered this place one sleepy Sunday morning when we were looking for a good breakfast place. They have a small but delicious breakfast menu and we tried several things because everything sounded so good. The breakfast sandwich on plain pan de pais to order was delicious (and they were happy to do a version without meat since we don't eat it), as were the strawberry crepes and fried yucca. They also had delicious-looking sweets and beautiful cakes on display. The server was friendly and happily provided a box for our overabundance of food so we could take it home and enjoy it later (with some lighthearted teasing...mucha comida indeed!). Best of all, this was an inexpensive indulgence and came with free coffee refills. We hope we've found our 'go to' local spot for good breakfasts and the occasional event - either way, we'll be back! read more

We walk our 3-year old down several times a week for an evening treat from El Sabor. The pleasant woman behind the counter is simply the best - always cheerful and always offering us a sample of something we haven't tried before. We often end up with a cupcake or two or a churro or some fine pastry. The bread pudding is a real treat. For Mother's Day, I picked up a beautfiully decorated chocolate cake. The layers of cake moist and spongy with the perfect, not-overly-done icing. It was divine. And... and the prices. It's amazing what you can walk out of there with for under $10. From now on, I'm skipping Dunkin and buying the office treats at El Sabor. What a great addition to the neighborhood! read more

Stopped by with my siblings because we were in the area and craving something sweet. The building doesn't look like a bakery at all--it's warehousey and in a strip mall, but it's huge, so you can't miss it. It is a bit bare-bones and dirty inside, which may bother some. The array of pastries/cakes/breads is incredibly impressive and overwhelming, but thanks to Yelp, we were only after one thing: the Tres Leches Cake. A simple unassuming place that offers you a pretty damn good selection of baked goods at an astonishing price. You have real choice and good quality; for example the apricot filling in some of the pastries. Good way to stock the shelf at home for breakfast and coffee time. I get something from the bakery section pretty much every time I am in the area. I like trying different things. The guava pastries are my favorite. They look like a little empendas and taste great. I really like their version of churros, it looks more like a long john than a traditional churro, i don' t find them very often, but i pounce on them when they do. A pretty unknown place (they don't have a website) that produces really FANTASTIC...everything. Lots of small batch stuff with trying out new and fantastic recipes (I've never seen zucchini pupusas or chocolate alfajores!) with great quality ingredients (the pork pupusas actually have chunks of pork!) The cakes are fantastic. Light, fluffy and not too sweet, I had a strawberry and coconut one with a heavenly whipped cream inside & out (not the typical heavy buttercream at other places). read more

Gonna need to borrow a phrase from the movie "Undercover Brother" to tell you the food is so good, makes you wanna slap yo mama! - Ok maybe you won't feel that betrayed but it is good to know a local spot that gives that Latin home vibe that puts love every meal. Prices aren't hefty and food is pretty hard to beat for good flavor. One of the best spots in Wheaton for Latin based meals I enjoy most. They are open early mornings when I need to be on my way to work. I can call in my order and I'm most cases I only wait an additional 3 minutes or so before my meal is cooked. Mind you this isn't fast food! But they sure have gotten a sense of efficiency down that would take me longer to cook myself AND make it good. Love this gem in our neighborhood! The pan con todo (#1 on the menu) is so delicious and so filling, and the prices are very reasonable. On a nice day, there are tables outside to enjoy the weather while you enjoy your food, although seating inside is somewhat limited. The cakes are amazing here! They are flavorful, moist and the best part is that they use whipped vs buttercream - which in my opinion tastes a lot better.
